The Nets Thread Where Tom Talks to Himself

I'm loving the early signs from this Nets team. Hollins has been so good for Deron Williams, and he's not letting Brook Shields-Lopez dog it only the defensive end. I think the players liked playing for Kidd last year, but I don't think they ever looked at him as an authority figure. I think Hollins is getting that respect right now, and DWill has really bought in.

Loving this team:

Brooklyn Nets shooting guard Joe Johnson is normally rather reserved. He's not a bad quote, but he speaks quietly and rarely says anything controversial. On Tuesday, though, he broke character. Johnson told reporters that the team has been selfish, and acknowledged that, for him to say that publicly, it had to be a big deal. From The Brooklyn Game's Devin Kharpertian:

“It’s just- as individuals, as players, (we have to) have each other’s backs out there,” Johnson vented to the media after the team’s Tuesday afternoon practice. “I just felt, I didn’t believe it. I go back, and I watch the tape, and I watch film just to try to get a different perspective, and I mean, my feelings haven’t changed.”

“It’s just kind of what it is. Defensively, we help from time to time, offensively, I just think guys kind of exhaust their options and then when there’s nothing else for them, then they’ll pass it when they have to. For the most part, we’ve been very selfish.”

“I’m not hiding anything,” Johnson vented after the team’s practice Tuesday. “We’re 4-2 six games into the season, but it’s early. We haven’t played anybody, and the Minnesota game (is) obviously a game we should’ve won. I thought this last game that we played against Orlando was almost a carbon copy.”

“Man, first off I just play. I don’t really say much. If I’m speaking on something or saying something, then obviously it has to be something. So I’m not just talking for my health.”

Five game losing streak during which they're letting Lopez throw up any shot he wants in order to trick some other franchise into believing he's not a stiff. My hope is that the Pacers decide that can't deal with Hibbert's mood swings anymore and they pull a one for one swap.

good win tonight. Ive become a closet Nets fan because i have D Will, Lopez, and Plumlee on my fantasy team.  Speaking of which, has Plumlee regressed or what? 3 minutes tonight?  7 minutes in the triple OT classic??  (which i left in the 4th quarter because of Tailgate Joes serious Han Dynasty habit......had to get there before they closed at 10:30 right joe?)  Lionel doesn't seem to have a use for Mason it seems

My hope is that they're lerting Brook Lopez play and shoot a ton in hopes of boosting his draft stock so they can deal him for Hibbert. This is my hope. Brook Lopez is the worst player in the NBA.

Hollins and Billy KIng have a lot in common-basically NBA lifers who drift from job to job despite no real record of accomplishment other than a pleasant line of BS.

I like Hollins so far, because he seems to be an old-school, no-BS ball buster. DWill has played a lot harder this year, and he's riding Lopez into the ground. Kidd was soft on the team last year, imo.

Harder or healthier??

The surgeries seem to have worked wonders for him.....he is playing absolutely lights out.

Lopez on the other hand........when will this guy put the comic books down and actually body someone up in the paint??

5 rebounds per game is unacceptable as a 7 footer getting 30 plus minutes per game

went to the game yesterday....35 percent bulls fans in the building......Brook Lopez may be the doofiest, most uncoordinated 7 footer in the game today....He actually seems challenged to run or jump (and its not the foot injury), no surprise he can't rebound......

Also this is phenomenal.....

Mason Plumlee took aim at coach Lionel Hollins for his criticism of Plumlee's game.
"It's whatever. That's my quote," Plumlee said. Frustration has clearly gotten the better part of Plumlee, and he's been absolutely terrible since a fairly positive summer with Team USA. Hollins had said that Plumlee needs to "play better" among other more specific comments, and it obviously didn't sit well with young big man. Journeyman Jerome Jordan is currently ahead of Plumlee in the rotation. Plumlee can blame team changes and a disparity in minutes, but nothing is changing unless he improves.

I am not sure what they are trying to do with Lopez.  He is big and slow.  He is a lumbering low post center.  Every team used to have them, but now they are an endangered species.  Against some guys he can be quite effective.  OTOH, they seem like they want him to play like Rodman or Noah and that is not going to happen.  I haven't watched them too many games the past couple of years, so maybe he regressed, but that was my take.

Too bad about Plumlee falling out with Hollins. I think it's all a part of the Nets plan to dump Lopez on some poor team who looks at his stats and thinks it'd be cool to have a center. I haven't hated a Net this much since Derrick Coleman.

He's always been that way. All he knows or wants to do is shoot. Zero interest in defense and rebounding. When an opposing center puts an elbow in his chest, he checks out mentally. Total pussy.

Eh.  I think of him more as a doof than a pussy.

I still have my DC jersey.  I wish I could find a tie dye, though Cadillac Anderson was my man.  ******* Coleman was a beast. 20 and 10.  He had a heart condition, anybody else would have been seen as courageous, but Coleman was a loafer.  If Keith Smart doesn't get lucky Coleman is a hero.

Derrick Coleman - one of the biggest might have beens ever.  Guy had the talent to be a HOF'er.  Too bad Petrovic died in the car wreck in '92 that was the year they got Chuck Daly and Kenny Anderson was starting to come around they could have been a really good team.

Oh, hi T0m.

Prokhorov is selling the team, which is fine. He gave it a good effort and spent a ton of cash, but got the team out of Jersey vis a vis that worm Ratner. His legacy will be Brooklyn, as well as foolishly selling out to get Pierce and Garnett for a run at a title. Unfortunately, adding them to a nucleus of young, soft, always-hurt, me-first dicks killed them.

The good news is that they're about to dump Brook Lopez on some poor unsuspecting team. He is literally the worst player in the NBA, despite the points he puts up. His teammates hate him, his coaches can't wait for him to get hurt, and yet the casual fan looks at the box score and thinks he's great. I don't want any part of Lance Stephenson, though.

Prokorov will double his investment. MORE WHORES IN THE SWISS SKI CHALET FOR EVERYONE!

Bringing Lance Stephenson "home" is akin to giving teen boys guns, liquor and keys to high end cars, which may be exactly what this will be about for Stephenson. Picture Stephon Marbury with all the self-control and work ethic of Allen Iverson. Again King and Hollins show themselves to be arugably 2 of the dumbest people involved in any professional sports franchise in North America. There is nobody affiliated with this franchise who cares a whit about any kind of statisitcal analysis. These guys are more likely to use cocktail napkins as any computer.

I can't even look anymore. I really thought Hollins' tough love approach would help, but Deron Williams is a China doll wimp and Brook Lopez doesn't seem to like basketball all that much.

What do you think of the potential JJ-Stephenson trade?

Nets have NBA’s worst local TV ratings, according to report

LOS ANGELES -- Never mind Mikhail Prokhorov's vow to win a title. All of his rubles couldn't even buy relevancy.

As a trade deadline arrives Thursday with little hope the Nets can acquire something substantial, the proof of their status in this city is in the numbers and trends: people have tuned them out or steadily turned them off.

According to the Sports Business Journal, Nets games on YES network have the worst local ratings in the entire league, even well below the tanking Sixers.

The 0.55 average rating represents a 29 percent drop from last season for the Nets, and a 50 percent decrease from the inaugural campaign in 2012-13. Viewership has been slashed in half in just two years.

To put that in perspective, the 10-win Knicks have a rating on MSG this season that's roughly triple that of the Nets' games.

^ Combined with being bad, the Nets are also entirely unlikeable. I don't blame people for not watching.

That said, nobody is watching the NBA anymore. Basketball is in a death spiral. More people will watch the Combine 40's this Saturday than will watch any one game of the Finals.

Then it's a good thing NBA signed that mega TV deal last year
