Jets rookie Dexter McDougle, out for season with knee injury, cleared to start running

The Jets were counting on Dexter McDougle to make an immediate impact in their secondary this season. But McDougle tore the ACL in his left knee during training camp and was lost for the season. It was the first of several hits—Dee Milliner's torn Achilles, everything about Dimitri Patterson's arrival and disappearance, the failed conversion of Antonio Allen from safety—the Jets would take at cornerback this season.

Monday, McDougle said on his Instagram page that he's been cleared to start running again as he continues his recovery. Safe to say the third-round draft pick out of the University of Maryland is happy about it.

The Jets will no doubt pursue other corners via free agency and the draft in the coming offseason, but McDougle figures to be part of their plans for 2015, too.

Dex is a True competitor our plans at corner haven't panned out in 2 seasons next year everyone should be expected to be healthy so we can move Move Allen back to shutting down these tight ends and Pryor in the box sledgehammering like he supposed to be he looks like a bust cause our corners can't even hold up for 2 seconds need to sign another vet too I would like Chris Harris Jr I don't think Broncos would give him the right contract since they are already paying out a lot for their star players

Pryor looks like a bust because he can't tackle.

If he was picked in the 7th round he would be on the practice squad right now.

I agree he needs to work on open field tackling cause he basically just throws his body most of the time coming down hill needs to learn how to wrap up

And he should probably not try and give himself a concussion by running into the punt protector.

To all you guys knocking Pryor....what is it about "he's playing out of position" do you not understand?  The problem is Rex and his supposedly savant like moves like Coples, Allen, and Pryor all playing out of position.

exactly what position is pryor playing? last I checked, I thought he was playing safety,no?

He's an in the box SS.  Rex has him playing FS.  You really don't know this?

Rex is playing a lot of zone this season, with both safeties playing deep, because his CBs are perhaps the worst on the NFL. Allen is playing out of position because of the CB situation, Pryor is still playing safety. A first round safety needs to be able to do more than just be an extra linebacker.

I'm not closing the door on the kid. I think he can be a good player, but he's been a disappointment as a rookie.

There are lots of guys on this team that will be significantly better the next few years when a real coach and staff get here. Pryor isn't the only one.

What he ought to be able to do based on his draft position is besides the point.  If he isn't a complete enough safety then that is on Idzik and not Rex.  It's on Rex that he plays Pryor in a position he is ill suited for.

He may improve in time and become a complete player but for now he's not and IMHO Rex should be playing the best FS on the roster Idzik provided him and not playing a rookie out of position.

Bottom line...the malfunction it on Idzik and not Rex UNLESS Rex tried to fit a square peg in a round hole.

Whu?

You say this as though the selection happened in a vacuum.

You don't think Rex endorsed the selection? It is certifiable that people need to assign either/or blame for every little thing. They are both to blame for picking a first round ******* safety in a draft filled with offense-changing WRs. Period.

I tried to convince myself that it must've been a good pick at the time. I am a foolish fan, like most, and don't mind saying so.
