Saints sign Jalen Saunders

The Saints placed wide receiver Brandin Cooks on injured reserve earlier this week after he had thumb surgery, opening up a spot on their depth chart at the position that they filled on Wednesday.

Wide receiver Jalen Saunders is the newest member of the Saints. Agent Rocky Arceneaux announced that his client reached agreement with New Orleans, which means he’s now spent time with four different teams during his rookie season.

Saunders was a fourth-round pick of the Jets, but got dropped by the team in September after he muffed a punt during a loss to the Bears. He spent a little time on the practice squad in Arizona and was signed off of the Seahawks’ practice squad this week. Saunders could get a chance on punt returns in Cooks’s absence and the Saints have also been without wide receiver Robert Meachem for the last couple of weeks.

The Saints haven’t officially announced the move, but Field Yates of ESPN.com reports that running back Brian Leonard was released to make room for Saunders on the roster. The Saints also cut Edwin Baker earlier this week, which may indicate one or both of Khiry Robinson and Pierre Thomas are ready to return to action.

Saunders is the most inexplicable of all the Idzik picks so far, imo. Given the teams that have given him a shot since--Cards, Seahawks, Saints--each do a pretty good job finding receiving options in the middle rounds, it stands to reason that Saunders was one of those guys that was popular in the scouting community for some reason. It's a long shot that he turns it around (obviously), but it makes it less painful to see teams with good track records giving him a look.

Brian Leonard's name was a surprise for me to see up there until I looked him up. This was his 8th year in the NFL. Damn it seems like only yesterday that so many Jets fans/ Scarlett Knight fans were crying about the Rams drafting him and not us...err, them. So before anyone else says it, may I be the first: SIGN THIS BEAST

We cry about white skill position players. Giants fans pooped themselves when Joe Martinek got a shot and he sucked. It's like everyone wants their own Chrebet minus the trauma.

omg your kidding right...lol

always looking for a way to turn Idziot's chicken s**t into chicken salad

all those teams had injury's as the WR groups are falling apart and they are desperate?  maybe anther way to look at it.

I never really thought of it like that.
