Detroit radio station urges fans to support NY Jets against Bills to spite former Lions head coach Jim Schwartz

Lions fans are apparently bitter over the fact Schwartz brazenly requested that Bills players carry him off the field after Buffalo went into Ford Field on Oct. 5 and defeated Detroit 17-14. Schwartz coached the Lions the previous five seasons, leading them to a playoff berth in 2011.

They may be heading to Detroit, but Rex Ryan and the Jets could feel right at home as fans in Detroit are expected to root against Bills defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz.

Despite losing a home game to a neutral location because of several feet of snow, the Buffalo Bills could be entering enemy territory when they play the Jets in Detroit Monday night.

The Detroit sports radio station 105.1 started an initiative for local fans to take advantage of the free tickets being offered and wear green in support of the Jets so Lions faithful can get in the head of Bills defensive coordinator and former Lions head coach Jim Schwartz.

"This Monday, #Detroit wears green to Ford Field to turn Jim Schwartz' "home" game into a road game. #GreenMonday," the station tweeted on its @DSports1051 account.

Lions fans are apparently bitter over the fact Schwartz brazenly requested that Bills players carry him off the field after Buffalo went into Ford Field on Oct. 5 and defeated Detroit 17-14. Schwartz coached the Lions the previous five seasons, leading them to a playoff berth in 2011, the team's first postseason appearance since 1999. That was Schwartz' only winning season with Detroit, however. He had a 29-51 record over five seasons and was fired after a 7-9 2013 campaign in which the Lions began 6-3.

Sheldon Richardson acknowledged Friday that the Jets-Bills game being moved to Detroit's Ford Field takes away Buffalo's home-field advantage, but added "we don't have a strong fan-base in Detroit, I don't think." Well, that fan-base could be burgeoning leading up to Monday.

A large contingent of Gang Green supporters would only make matters worse for the Bills, who are clearly at a disadvantage after substantial snowfall, which became a public-safety issue, forced the NFL to move their home game and kept them from practicing all week until Friday night in Detroit.

Rex Ryan admitted the pendulum had swung in the Jets' favor as they no longer have to play in a difficult road environment. And though he sympathizes for the people of Buffalo, Ryan was looking forward to taking his team into Ralph Wilson Stadium.

Detroit fans are still bitter over Schwartz excessively celebrating a Bills win over his former team leaving the neutral Detroit fans to side with the Jets.

"You hope everybody's safe," Ryan said. "I think that's the main thing. And when they did decide to move the game, hey, we just go and we know we're in a different stadium and all that, but quite honestly I think as a fan of football, I would have liked to have gone to Buffalo. I appreciate their fans and all that, but, obviously, that's not the case.

"Is there an advantage to us? I'm sure it's going to be an easier venue for us to play in than Buffalo. Buffalo's a tough place to play, so I'm happy in that regard, but (as) a fan of football, I would have liked to have gone to Buffalo."

The shift to the domed Ford Field theoretically helps the Jets offensively with the speed they boast in guys like Mike Vick, Chris Johnson and Percy Harvin. The news of playing in controlled conditions under a roof instead of freezing, snowy weather was a "big relief," Johnson said.

The snow at Ralph Wilson Stadium in Buffalo forces the NFL to move the Jets-Bills game to Detroit.

"It was crazy because I knew it was supposed to be - not real, real cold but I knew there was supposed to be snow on the ground and stuff like that," he added.

"Being able to go somewhere inside, don't have to worry about the weather or worry about the bad field conditions. It's a lot better to be able to just focus on the game and not the weather."

The Jets will have walkthroughs on Saturday and Sunday before flying to Detroit later on Sunday. They'll also go through a conditioning workout on Saturday to avoid too much time without exertive work. After practicing outdoors all week, the Jets moved practice indoors Friday to better simulate the game's new atmosphere.

All Jets on the injury report practiced in full and are probable for Monday.

It's a green out in Detroit!!!! Nobody travels like Jet fans!

I know some people who are meeting me there. I think we'll have a decent showing, but I have no faith in the Detroit fans in pulling for the Jets to get back at Schwartz.  Couple of the Lions fans I know are going down there in their Lions colors just to be asses.

I told them not to be offended when the Jets score more TDs in their own barn than the Lions have in 20 quarters.
