Ryan, on his weekly spot on "The Michael Kay Show" on ESPN New York 98.7, had a curious response when asked if Simms is a consideration to start. Ryan laughed and said simply, "No." Heard the interview yesterday and when asked about Simms starting he didn't just say no, he chuckled at the thought (held it back a little) and then said "uhhh, no" as if this kid isn't even on the radar. I am fine with that but then why is he even on the roster?

Rex Ryan is a moron. As far as complaining about Idzik wanting to fire him, what ever bad stuff you can say about Idzik, objectively coaches that lose 10-14 games, havne't sniffed a playoff berth in 4 years and have NO IDEA how to develop a QB nor run an offense get fired 100% of the time. The only move he had after week 4 ws to play Simms and see if he had lighting in a bottle. Smith blows dead animals; Vick is here to fund his IRA and STD drug copays. And this IDIOT of a head coach instead doesn't fire the only bullet he had left in Simms. May be he would've failed but it would not have been worse. ANyone who thinks Ryan will ever be a HC is on dope.

I am fine with that but then why is he even on the roster? He wasn't on the roster until November when Geno got hurt. Not benched, hurt. They called Simms up from the practice squad because Geno couldn't dress. They cut Owusu, who had no impact and rarely saw the field, so I don't see the problem with Simms having a roster spot, particularly with two dinged guys ahead of him. CobraVerde
Here's to hoping Matt Simms gets a starting job on a power rival team that the jets face multiple times a year. CobraVerde
Bryan Hoyer was a third string QB. Russell Wilson was a third string QB. Three QBs have played this year in Arizona.

Lifetime backup to the backup, never given an honest chance since pop warner days as a payback to his HOF'er old man. Born with a canon arm, high IQ and blond hair he's the epitome of perfection. Hollywood calls, movies, TV Xmas special. His own clothing line "Son with a Gun". His talents know no end. Future President of the United States, forever known as Super Simms. To think he could have been the heir apparent to Broadway Joe. SOJ!

TuscanyTile2
For those who assume Matt Simms must be garbage because he's a 3rd stringer, remember when Victor Cruz was a scrub nobody WR a few years ago. Same w Kurt Warner about a decade ago. Obviously this doesn't mean Simms is even a viable player (maybe he stinks) but the notion that he can't be good just because of his "current situation" is a little ridiculous. Shadetree
I have been campaigning for starting Simms since the Detroit game. I felt he was the best QB on the roster since August. I don't want to debate my opinion of the kid with you guys but I do want to give my opinion on Rex's response to the question.... 1) starting him is a NO BRAINER at this point of the season. 2) the fact that he laughed at the notion of starting Simms has me fuming. It's disrespectful to the kid and he should know better than to laugh. If I was SIMMS I would be beyond pissed. I'm with te other poster..I hope SIMMS goes on to great things with a team that shows him respect

Such a shame the way he ended up. It tells us that, or, it tells us that Rex knows a lot more about Brett Ratli-- Sorry, Matt Simms, than you do. Question... All GMs have access to the preseason games... Why is it that when Simms was demoted to the practice squad, not one team picked him up? Seems crazy! Kleckineau
Rex's opinion of any player is meaningless, somewhat laughable at this point. Simms may not have "it" but Ryan is the last guy whose talent evaluation carries any weight at this point. He needs to stfu and fade away.
jgb
With the complete garbage dump at QB Rex should not be laughing even if he is asked if the team would consider bringing back brooks bollinger. Simms is a no win for Rex. He can't save his job here but if Simms does well he will look like an idiot for sticking with geno (and Vick) so long. Rex's decisions are all about him this season folks. sg3
Sounds like Rex who should have been fired on Tuesday has now contracted Herm Edwards Syndrome Remember 2001 and part of 2002 when every week Moron Herm would say Vinny is my guy, the experienced guy! Chad is not ready!! Every week even though Vinny sucked every week. Then Morris Stroud took out Vinny and Chad came in and took the team a magic carpet ride that included a playoff stomping of Peyton and the Colts Now we have the formerly fat dyslexic retard alternating between washed up Dog Killer and bust Geno while the obvious choice of Simms rots on the inactive list Did the nepotism Moron actually chuckle at the QUESTION? Looking forward to joining in the chants to FIRE HIS DUMB ASS on Monday night

TuscanyTile2
I'm with the other posters on here too. I mean my first preference is Simms to play here but if not then I hope he goes on to (hopefully) greatness elsewhere. And again to those who assume he must be a scrub since he wasn't claimed in preseason, remember names like Kurt Warner, Victor Cruz, Danny Woodhead, etc. Btw I am also fuming at Rex laughing at the suggestion of starting Simms. And I agree he knows he'll look bad if Simms does well (which is possibly why he doesn't want to give him a chance). I think the same applies for Idzik, btw. The core problem; if Simms were to succeed shows affirmatively Idzik and Ryan have no idea what they're doing. And how do you keep your current job or get another one after you get fired here off such incompetence?

Simms scout report says it all. Ive been pushing him and putting up vids and links for a long time so if you want to know why go research yourself. him not seeing the field is based on internal drama IMO. This team is all internal drama. Mariotta is destined to fail because he's coming out of Oregon. They don't produce NFL talent. WInston is only guy to go for in the draft if SImms doesnt get a shot.
