KRL
I'm amazed whether it's the print media, television or fans nobody wants to blame Ryan for anything associated with this team. My question is how come??? I appreciate the job he did early on and love how he changed the culture around the team. But hasn't he been here for six years and been responsible for the following: - The team being totally flat for the first half of the championship game against PIT - The team collapsing at the end of the 2011 season and missing the playoffs. In addition the locker room problems exposed themselves on the field against MIA - Hiring Sparano as OC - Hyping up the Tebow acquisition and never knowing what to do with him. Which also screwed up Sanchez - Never having a plan on how to develop a young QB - Never having a vision for the offensive side of the ball other than wanting to run the "wildcat" - Playing favorites with older players and hurting the development of younger ones - Defensive personnel screw-ups which cost us too many men on the field penalties. And then not having enough men on the field on other occasions - Always having communication breakdowns in our secondary - Poor situational awareness by our defense where they don't play the down and distance properly Need I go on??? No matter the excuses that are coming from the media this is not a "poor old Rex" situation. He's been given ample time to correct the negative trends that have plagued this team and hasn't done it

bitonti
he's certainly not without blame but out of the 'big 3' of Woody, Idzik and Rex, he's the only one with a clue about the game of football. Rex does run a good defense, which is something. More than we can say about the other two. Rex's shortcomings such as "not developing a QB" are vague and could be said about any coach (did Bill Walsh develop Gino Carmazzi?) long story short he's not the problem with this football team. ComfortablyNumb
He's likeable. The NY media would have to actually put in work if Rex goes so they paint him the victim. They are dreading the possibility of a Harbaugh type coming in here and having to draw water from a stone to get stories.

No matter the excuses that are coming from the media this is not a "poor old Rex" situation. He's been given ample time to correct the negative trends that have plagued this team and hasn't done it Why? Because he is one of the most likable personalities on television. He's a Leader. The most badass athletes in the world will follow him. Hes the kind of guy that might go to atlanta or someplace that has an excellent offense and win a championship in the next few years. Or he's going to be an excellent TV commentator. HOWEVER - He is not the guy for us. I would think that is clear but I keep getting the feeling these days that he is staying again while idzik is getting fired.

Sorry JiF, but a "damn good" HC doesn't go 4 years without a winning record and sniffing the playoffs. Not to mention an overall sub .500 winning percentage. Rex was way in over his head the day he accepted the job. He is not a leader whatsoever. He'd rather the players like him rather than respect him. Can't wait to watch him next year on the pre-games shows, he will be great.

T0mShane
Because Rex is a deferential approval-seeker, it makes people around him feel empowered, which people obviously enjoy. People like Rex on a personal level, and that blinds them to his many and varied professional failings.

After that impressive win vs a 3rd string QB, a team with the 32nd ranked run defense, missing their #1 WR, after getting a gift 15 yard penalty on 3rd down, how could you even question the great Rex Ryan Head coaching prowess? I have no idea what the Rex haters are watching!

We'd hear all about how bad the special teams are and that if Rex only had depth players his specials would be well - special.

Not quite Tex Don Shula went 4 years 1986-1989 without making the playoffs with Marino as his QB who some might say was better then any QB Rex had.. Oh and his best record in those 4 years was 8-7 1 game short do to the strike in 1987..
IPBanBadPosters
The media loves him because he gives them endless material and literally writes their articles on a weekly basis. This. He "makes good copy." We also have a sizable minority of the fanbase dumb enough to support him in perpetuity, regardless of his ineptitude, partly because they've been hoodwinked to believe that the defense will fall apart without him, and partly because they like his personality. Gas2No99
Colorful & fun while we had some runs. Smashmouth
Most fans on this very site knew what was in the cards with Rex Ryan ...He started off good but seemed very disorganized and damn near ignored the offense. His mouth would wear thin on the fans at the first sign of problems.
