Yankees trade Prado and Phelps to Miami

I like the Eovaldi pickup enough, but less than I initially thought. He's got a good, power arm, but is a BOR starter right now. Big innings jump last year (70 innings from 2013), and misses less bats than you would think/hope. Luckily he's cheap, under control for 3+ years, and currently healthy.

I like Prado as much as anybody, we could really use his veratality, but you need to give to get. And the return of this trade is exactly what this team should look for. Filling the need with upside and stocking the farm. There is risk but it's the risk the team should take. You're not getting a young great sure thing by just giving up Prado. The success of this trade is dependent on what Rothschild and McCann can do with Eovaldi. While, the pitching prospect can be an added benefit in the near future. Jones isnt a bad add in either, he has left handed power that plays well in Yankee Stadium and gives us a true backup to Teixeira and Beltran.

My favorite part of the deal is actually Jones lol he is perfectly made for this ballpark. He can back up Tex, back up Beltran and platoon with A-Rod at DH. If he gets the AB's that I think he will he will put up 20+ homers imho. Cashman has wanted him for a while, back when we traded AJ to the Pirates we tried to pry jones away from them but the rejected.

Hoping the Yanks make a move for a 2Bman, don't trust handing the job to refsnyder.

Most MLB teams get nothing offensively out of their infielders. It will be a new phenomenom for Yankees fans who have been watching Derek Jeter, Arod, Cano and Jorge Posada for 20 years.

I think this upcoming season depends largely on two things happening:

1. Tanaka staying healthy the entire season and getting 18-20 wins.

2. Arod/Beltran/Tex - 2 of the 3 have to stay healthy a minimum of 130 games otherwise the offense stinks the way it did last year

Those two things happen we're in the playoffs at least as a wildcard.  If they don't it's 82 wins or less.

Tanaka's health is so vital to the success of 2015. Fingers crossed.

The trade itself is fine. I just wouldn't expect an ace out of Eovaldi without some big steps forward. As it is he does bring innings and velocity, two things the rotation lacks.

Jones should do well in NY.

I think they're hoping Larry Rothschild can help Eovaldi miss more bats which Larry is known for. I think he must've saw something he knew he could help with before the Yankees decided to trade for the guy. I agree on Jones his left handed swing is perfect for YSlll.

Unless it's a sequencing issue for Eovaldi, I'm not sure what Rothschild can do. The guy threw his slider almost 25% of the time last year,  throwing it more seems crazy unless they plan to just run his arm into the ground. He can't become a FA until he's 27-28, so the Yankees are getting some good years (just out of the first injury nexus, FA just before hitting the second one).

Iunno...even if he never gets better, they'd take 199 above average starter innings like last year all day err day.
