ebonix
www.espn.go.com @Cimini ....but the odds of Idzik surviving this season aren't good. Woody Johnson has been tight-lipped in regard to his plans, but the vibe around the organization is that he's looking to replace his general manager. It's possible that he will re-assign Idzik to another role, but I'd be surprised if he remains the top dog in the football operation. There was a report last week that said Idzik is vetting potential head coach candidates, which suggests he'll be sticking around, but I don't think that's an accurate representation of the situation. He might have had a couple of casual conversations on the side, but nothing in an official capacity. We'll know the answer in nine days. ....He could be either Capologist/ Accountant... or towel attendant. Woody better get a real football guy in here. I don't want another screwed -up draft. flgreen
I agree, and mentioned it in another post. This is the way for Woody to save face, and to get some use out of Idzik. I have to assume Idzik is a good cap guy, Let him do what he does, and get a football guy in here as his boss

I have to assume Idzik is a good cap guy, Let him do what he does, and get a football guy in here as his boss I can really see it happening this way. In a sense, Idzik has saved Woody money; not given out huge contract like Tanny did with Santonio and Sanchise. With the big cap number-- and real football guy as GM.... ( Tom Gamble of the EAGLES ? ) then clean the scouting dept out including Bradway. We could be ok in 2015.

It seems to me the best QB's available are Moore (fair I guess) and Sanchez LOL

I'm not saying Gamble couldn't be a good hire, but he was Philly's VP of player development this year - take a look at their draft - Outside of Matthews

KRL
Remember we do have a GM in house that recently got a team to the Super Bowl, Rod Graves. Would it shock me if Woody flips the roles of Idzik & Graves, no. I could see Graves becoming the President/GM and Idzik becoming the VP/Football Admin

BigRy56
Idzik did an excellent job of getting the Jets out of really bad cap trouble. This wouldn't be a bad move as long as a good judge of talent is brought in as general manager.

I could see Graves becoming the President/GM and Idzik becoming the VP/Football Admin He did get the Cards to the Super Bowl, and that is certainly no easy task. He also only had 2 winning seasons in 10 years there. He is also probably the master mind of the the 2014 Jets draft. BigRy56
Ya getting rid of revis really worked out well Getting rid of Revis for a 1st round draft pick when he was demanding insane amount of money coming off of a career threatening injury: brilliant job Idzik. Finding a replacement for him: awful job. A "football guy" (hate that term) will do a better job at replacing players while Idzik keeps us in great cap shape. Not a bad deal. If that was the case every team would have a guy from MIT or Harvard on staff and never get in cap trouble. I do think Idzik should be fired (as GM).. but if the Jets kept him around to keep the cap in check it wouldn't be a bad thing.
slats
Cimini is still a hack. He's speculating based on the fact that Woody has done this before, and that Idzik did a good job with the cap (if nothing else) and also has a couple/few unpaid years left on his contract. Back when Bradway did it, though, he volunteered. Unless there's language in Idzik's deal that he can moved to any other position at the owner's discretion, I don't know why he'd take a demotion. He'd take the money and get a cap job somewhere else. Better for both the ego and the pocketbook.

T0mShane
Not sure why everyone hates this. This seems like the fair and right thing to do. Depends who the guy is that they bring in to be his boss. Is it Parcells or Polian? Or is it another 40 year-old unproven guy? If it's the former, where Woody hires a grand overseer, that's cool. But if it's just another dude, I'm not sure that's fair to either guy.

The season is a disaster, big changes of one kind or another are coming, the team has more leaks than a wicker canoe...and the best investigative reporting we've got is some noncommital crapola about "the vibe around the organization." I can't remember who said this, but it's brilliant: 31 teams are covered by sportswriters; the Jets are covered by gossip columnists who happen to write about sports. sourceworx
This would only make sense if they get Harbaugh or Gruden, and give them full control over personnel decisions. Idzik would stay on to manage the cap for them. Any other way, it's just Woody doing what he always does.
