Mock offseason 2015 offense on deck!!!

Lawd that season was horrible. Indecision and lack of common sense by the front office led to a lot of holes on both sides of the ball and an unfortunate end to the Rex Ryan era.

So many decisions depend on what the new coaching regime likes to see in its players and the scheme changes that will come, but Im just gonna do my best rn to plug obvious holes in the roster with players that make sense for the team.

Resign/Extend

Muhammad Wilkerson-First and foremost, lets lock him up we have the space, just pay the man. 5 yr deal

Bilal Powell- good contributor, cheap back- 2 yr deal

Leger Douzable- really good contributor on the D line, lets lock him up- 3 yr deal

Damon Harrison- we could sign him to a tender being a RFA, but why don't we just lock him up longer term- 3 yr deal

Jaiquawn Jarrett- Had a breakout game, may or may not be the answer at safety, either way he'll be good to have in camp as competition and as depth during the season- 2yr deal

Percy Harvin- Tough decision here, it really depends on what the new coaching staff thinks of him. Obviously a valuable contributor on the field, but he may become a cancer to the locker room and who knows what kind of money he might want. I say we cut him and let him test the market and if its soft for him bring him back on a 1 yr prove it deal

No re-sign/cut

Mike Vick

Greg Salas

Dawan Landry

Willie Colon

Kyle Wilson

Jason Babin

Calvin Pace

Chris Johnson

Free Agency

Brian Hoyer- Geno isn't the answer, lets get over it. Hoyer can lead a team with a good running game and solid defense, which is what the jets will have. He is a veteran and although he isn't flashy, he won't turn the ball over every possession. He's the perfect guy to sign before we find our franchise guy. 3 yr deal

Orlando Franklin-Good veteran guard can come in and instantly improve our line by taking over for Colon. 3 yr deal

Brandon Graham- Former first round "disappointment" for the Eagles, Graham switched to OLB and has been very productive coming off the bench for the eagles. PFF has him rated very highly and he is young and without the big sack number that he is capable of putting up due to not being on the field for more than half of the snaps, which will probably let us get him for less than what he is worth. One of the most underrated pass rushers in the league. 4 yr deal

Antonio Cromartie- We need at least one solid corner when the season starts and Cromartie is our guy. Finally healthy and he's still making plays, he's got to feed these kids somehow. 2 yr deal

Antoine Cason- Another vet corner to add depth and possible starting ability to our secondary he will probably come cheap and he's only 28, id get him on a 3 yr deal.

Da'Rick Rodgers-Physically gifted and produced in his playing time with the Colts. Bring him into camp and he will out play everyone except maybe Harvin. Well worth the risk. No guaranteed money.

Draft

Trade back as far as we can, go from picking 6th to picking in the middle of the round, to pick up second and third round picks.

1. La'El Collins OT, LSU- The nasty new left tackle we need, can start out playing guard which he will be immediately prepared for. He is great in run blocking and solid in pass protection and a huge upgrade to our line. He is the heir to D'Brickashaw's spot when he leaves hopefully after the 2015 season.

2. Gerod Holliman FS, Louisville- the FS we need to play the middle of the field. Jarrett is most likely not the answer back there and it allows Pryor to move to his more natural SS position. Holliman is fluid in coverage and can deliver nasty hits when the opportunity is there.

2. Rashad Greene WR, Fla. St.- NFL ready skill set, speed to stretch defenses and elite hands to snatch the ball out of the air.

3. Ameer Abdullah RB, Nebraska-Chris Johnson's replacement, actually more of a Darren Sproles, Abdullah has elite speed and agility and will come in to be a great change of pace to Ivory.

3. Ifo Ekpre Olomu CB Oregon- gives the Jets a well built very fluid athlete with good ball skills and body control in the slot for 2016. Last year, Jason Verette was taken in the first round to be a slot cb and before his injury, Ifo was billed as a similar pick. The Jets need playmakers in the secondary and Ifo is definitely the guy you want in the slot.

4. Garrett Grayson QB, Colorado St.- Potential qb of the future, great arm, very accurate, made all of the throws in college. Only problem is, he comes from a spread system. Hoyer gives this kid time to develop and hopefully he becomes something great for us.

5. Paul Dawson ILB, TCU- Speedy ilb, will be a more athletic replacement for Harris.

7. Austin Shepherd, OT Alabama- Needs conditioning, but could be a long term candidate for the RT spot if he develops, has performed well against top competition in the SEC.

NYJ 2015 O Line: Ferguson, Collins, Mangold, Franklin, Giacomini

I always appreciate the efforts of stuff like this and find them fun to read, so thanks.

That said Hoyer is the "best" FA QB on the market and is going to try to get paid like it. I'd rather not. He's just not good enough.

Also, you have to do something with Harvin. He can't come back at his current price range.

I think teams will see Hoyer for the type of player he is, which is a game manager and he will be paid like one. Franchise QBs aren't found in FA and everyone knows that.

Harvins gonna test free agency after we cut him and find that teams don't want to pay top dollar for him and he will probably be back for less. If not, Greene has a skill set that is NFL ready and I think he could easily replace Harvin's production

Hoyer stinks.  I can't believe I actually compared him to Neil O'Donnell I was paying him the greatest compliment ever he couldn't hold O'Donnell's jock strap.  Pass - let Cleveland overpay to keep him.

Unfortunately I think we have to keep Harvin.  I don't like him and he's insanely overpaid but I doubt Cooper's falling to us at 6 and Dez Bryant and Demariyius Thomas are both getting resigned.

Hoyer won on the Browns who's supporting cast of offensive players this season (Mack was out and Josh Gordon when in did not perform at an elite level), is similar to that of the Jets with Harvin and two new guards, so I think he can win with us. The defense and running game give him plenty of good opportunities to be successful and he did not turn the ball over until his last 3 starts. Much better safety with the football in Hoyers hands than Geno or Vick.
