Just announced by Bowles.

Head coach Todd Bowles and the Jets have announced the hiring of eight assistant coaches in addition to the three coordinator spots that were filled with the hirings today of Kacy Rodgers on defense and Bobby April on special teams and earlier in the week of Chan Gailey on offense.
Here are some notes on each of the eight position coaches:

DEFENSIVE STAFF

Mike Caldwell, Assistant Head Coach/Inside Linebackers
Caldwell coached on the same NFL staffs with Bowles at Philadelphia in 2012 and at Arizona in 2013-14. Thus the two worked together to help build the league's No. 1 run defense in 2013 and were part of the defensive unit that was one of just five in the NFL to hold opponents under 20 points/game the past two seasons combined.
Caldwell enjoyed an 11-year pro playing career as a linebacker that began as the third-round pick of Cleveland out of Middle Tennessee State in 1993. He spent three seasons with the Browns, 1996 with the Ravens, '97 with the Cardinals, four seasons with the Eagles, and then one-year stops with the Bears in '02 and the Panthers in '03.

Mark Collins, Outside Linebackers
Collins joins Bowles on the Jets for only the second pro coaching stop of his career. His first was with Atlanta, when he joined the Falcons in 2010 and coached alongside new Jets DBs coach Joe Danna from 2012-14. Before the pros, Collins worked his way through the college ranks with stops at Louisiana–Monroe, Georgia, Georgia Southern, Elon, Michigan and East Tennessee State.
Joe Danna, Defensive Backs–Safeties
Danna was the DBs coach for the Atlanta Falcons the past three seasons. He and Bowles first crossed paths with Miami in 2010 when Bowles was the Dolphins' assistant head coach/secondary coach and Danna served as assistant defensive backs coach. That season the Miami pass defense ranked eighth in the NFL, allowing 209.3 yards/game.

OFFENSIVE STAFF

Karl Dorrell, Wide Receivers
Dorrell also has much experience in the pros and colleges on the offensive side of the ball. Last year he was Vanderbilt's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. The two seasons prior he coached the Texans' quarterbacks. From 2008-11 he was on the Dolphins staff along with Todd Bowles, coaching wideouts his first three years.
And from 2003-07 he was UCLA's head coach, compiling a 35-27 record and rising as high as No. 7 in the national polls with the Bruins' "Cardiac Kids." In all he's coached every year since 1989 for 12 different programs, eight in college and four in the pros.

Robby Brown, Quality Control–Offense
Brown was the former O-coordinator at Valdosta State and Northwestern State in Louisiana and last year served as running backs coach at South Alabama.

STRENGTH & CONDITIONING STAFF

Justus Galac, Strength & Conditioning
Kavan Latham, Assistant Strength & Conditioning
Aaron McLaurin, Assistant Strength & Conditioning

Galac begins his fourth season with the Jets and his third as head strength coach. McLaurin, assistant strength coach last year, and Latham, a seasonal intern, both return to the strength room under Galac.

Bobby April, Special Teams Coordinator

The well-traveled April will be coaching on his eighth NFL team with the Jets. He previously spent time coordinating the specialists on the Raiders the past two seasons, then before that the Eagles (2010-12, with Bowles on the '12 staff), Bills ('04-09), Rams ('01-03), Saints (1996-99), Steelers ('94-95) and Falcons ('91-93).

He won two Special Teams Coach of the Year awards, in 2004 and '08 with the Bills.

Before April's pro coaching experience came his college work, at Ohio State, Southern Cal, Arizona, Tulane and Southern Miss.

The native of New Orleans played four seasons at linebacker for Nicholls State from 1972-76.

Bio on Mark Collins / OLB Coach:

Mark Collins returns for his fifth season with the Falcons as outside linebacker coach. Collins has served as a defensive assistant and worked with the defensive line for the past four seasons. Under his guidance, the defensive line produced 21 of Atlanta’s 32 sacks last season, including career highs from DT Corey Peters (5.0) and DE Jonathan Massaquoi (4.0). The Falcons defensive line was also responsible for 30 of the club’s 55 tackles for loss in 2013.

In 2012, Collins’ efforts with the defensive line helped lead the Falcons to a 13-3 record, the NFC South Division title and the number one seed in the NFC playoffs. The defensive line produced 20.5 of the team’s 29 sacks in 2012, in addition to logging 44 tackles for loss. Defensive tackle Jonathan Babineaux put together another solid season with the assistance of Collins. Babineaux led all interior defensive linemen with 42 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, five passes defensed, 3.5 sacks, one interception and one forced fumble in 16 games.

In 2011, Collins’ work with the defensive line allowed the Birds to hold opponents to an average of 97 rushing yards per game, which was the sixth-best in the League. Atlanta held eight of its 16 opponents to under 100 rushing yards, including four of its last eight games, and stopped the opposition in the backfield 41 times last year.

Prior to his arrival in the NFL, Collins was an assistant coach, working with the safeties for the University of Louisiana-Monroe in 2009. He coached two All-Sun Belt selections in safeties Greg James and James Truxillo. The Warhawks defense allowed an average of 236.9 passing yards a game while totaling 13 interceptions during his lone year at the Monroe, Louisiana school.

Collins served as a graduate assistant at the University of Georgia in 2007. During his stay in Athens, the Bulldogs enjoyed an 11-2 season and a No. 2 ranking in the final Associated Press poll. Georgia won its last seven contests of the season, which included a 41-10 victory over Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl.

In 2006, Collins served as the Linebackers Coach for Georgia Southern University and also worked with the special teams and was the camp and clinic director. At GSU, Collins coached AFCA first-team All-America selection John Mohring.

A graduate of East Tennessee State University, Collins joined the coaching staff of his alma mater in 1999 and served in a variety of roles, including Outside Linebackers Coach, Defensive Line Coach, Special Teams Coordinator and Assistant Defensive Backs Coach. Following four seasons at ETSU, Collins was hired by the University of Michigan where he was part of two Big Ten Championships and back-to-back trips to the Rose Bowl. He worked with the team’s linebackers as well as the offensive linemen during his two seasons in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Collins’ Coaching Background
  • 2010-13 - Defensive Assistant // Falcons
  • 2009 - Assistant Coach // Louisiana-Monroe
  • 2007-08 - Graduate Assistant // Univ. of Georgia
  • 2006 - Linebackers // Georgia Southern Univ.
  • 2005 - Defensive Coord. // Elon University

Rodgers rotoworld blurb, sounds promising.

If the Dolphins were smart, they would've ousted Kevin Coyle and made Rodgers their defensive coordinator. Instead, Rodgers departs to re-team with Todd Bowles. Both are Bill Parcells disciples. One of the top D-Line gurus in football, Rodgers coached up Olivier Vernon, Cam Wake, and Jared Odrick in Miami, while getting career-best years from Randy Starks and Paul Soliai.

Nice to have a coaching staff again, Defensive side looks promising with Rodgers, Caldwell, Danna and Collins, did we have an OLB coach last year?  I like the focus on the pass rush

The Falcons site had a decent write up on Joe Danna (have to assume Bowles will be involved with the DB's as well)

You would think one coach could handle it - very specialized.

Like I said, completely different positions. Most 3-4 ILBs can't play 3-4 OLB and vice versa. Different skill sets, body types, athleticism...Sure there's your Karlos Dansbys, Lawrence Timmons, and D'onta Hightowers, but they are few and far between.
