In a much anticipated coaching move, the New York Jets announced today that former Miami Dolphins defensive line coach Kacy Rodgers will be joining Todd Bowles’ staff filling the role of defensive coordinator.  It will be the Rodgers’ first attempt at running his own defense having been a defensive line coach with both the Cowboys and Dolphins since 2003 when he arrived in Dallas and started out at a defensive tackle coach.

The 45 year old Tennessee native played his college football the University of Tennessee.  After going undrafted in 1992, Rodgers spent two seasons in the NFL with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Rodgers has coached some of the top defensive lines in the NFL during his time in Miami.  Since taking his current position with the Dolphins in 2008, Miami has totaled 287 sacks, good enough for third in the NFL during that time.

Rodgers worked for Dolphins Head Coach Tony Sparano when he joined the team in 2008, and coached side-by-side with Todd Bowles from 2009-2011 before Bowles moved on to Philadelphia.

Given their history and shared interest in running a defense, one would expect the pair to transition smoothly into their new roles with the Jets.
