Kevin Patullo QB Coach

Recommended Posts

He worked with Gailey in Buffalo as offensive quality control and asst wide receivers coach

Kevin Patullo enters his third season with the Bills as offensive quality control coach. Patullo assists in all aspects of coaching the wide receivers. He helped Stevie Johnson to back to back 1,000-yard receiving seasons in 2010 (1,004 yards) and 2011 (1,073 yards). Patullo worked closely in the development of the team’s young receiving corps including three undrafted free agent receivers who were very productive for the Bills in 2010. He coordinates the club’s offensive self-scouting duties and is responsible for computer analysis, statistical and video breakdowns of opponents on a weekly basis

Errr, he's going from assistant WRs coach to QB coach?  I can only hope Gailey plans on doing most of the QB coaching.

Nothing like jumping to conclusions...

As you look closer at his bio he's young (35-36) and he played QB at

So. Fla.

Exactly

Fans questioning this move should dig deeper, most young coaches move from position to position, it's how they develop as coaches, become coordinators, and eventually head coaches.

They have to start somewhere, he's a coach who has worked with Gailey, there were bound to be a couple of hires that Gailey would have his imprint on,

Kid came up through the ranks just like most of today's offensive coordinators did.  He was an offensive quality control guy, which basically meant he got the OC his coffee, got the game tapes prepared and made sure all the offensive assistants got what they needed . From that he went on to be a WR coach which basically explains itself and now he's a QBs coach .  Next step is OC if he proves worthy. The kid is being trained by a well respected OC in the league who is promoting him slowly.

Does anyone here know what Pep Hamilton's job was under Herman Edwards ?

This is the hire I was waiting for. The young assistant who is the apprentice to Chan Gailey . The apprentice who can take over the reins when Gailey steps down making the transition seamless.

Awfully excited about a guy that none of us know anything about. But hey, love your energy

How very nice, NY Jets as a developmental school.  I realize there is a promotion system, but how about assistant QB coach on some other team?  Assistant WR coach and the guy who got the materials ready for the Offensive Coordinator is quite a leap to trust the most important position on the team to.

Perfect pickup. You don't hire Chan unless you pretty much give him full control of the offense and let him develop, coach and instruct the QBs on the roster to fit his scheme. That's the expertise he brings to the game, that's what he excels at. Look at what he got out of those terrible QBs in Buffalo (Fitzpatrick), look at how well that other garbage QB in Kansas did (Thigpen) under Chan. Adding another 70 year old QB guru to do that wouldn't make much sense when you already have Chan on your staff, it'd just conflict with what Chan is trying to teach/do here.

Patullo

Tampa Bay Bucs writer, Greg Auman is reporting that the New York Jets will be bringing in former University of South Florida QB Kevin Patullo to fill the role of quarterback coach.

Patullo, who played two seasons at USF (2000-2001) and attempted just 25 passes, has worked for the Chiefs, Bills and Titans since his playing days came to a close according to Auman.

During his time in Buffalo, new Jets offensive coordinator Chan Gailey was the Bills head coach, so it stands to reason that Auman is a Gailey hire, and he’ll transition over from having previously served as a wide receivers coach.

Aren't QB coaches glorified dance teachers?  They do not deal too much with decision making, do they? It is about footwork, moving in the pocket, and throwing form.  The OC is the one who tries to groom their decision-making, since it is his offense they are deciding about.
