Great! Now if you can write a brief Bio of each one of the coaches and support staff, that would really be helpful 'cause I don't know who the hell ANY of these guys are except the HC/OC/DL coach and ST coach.

Take the rest of the evening to pull that together for us!

Thanks! You're the BESTEST!

Todd Bowles Names 3 Offensive Position Coaches

Steve Marshall Takes Over Jets' O-Line, Kevin Patullo Quarterbacks & Marcel Shipp Running Backs

3assistant-coaches.jpg

Three offensive position coaches have been named to Jets head coach Todd Bowles' coaching staff — Steve Marshall as offensive line coach, Kevin Patullo as quarterbacks coach, and Marcel Shipp as running backs coach.

Steve Marshall, Offensive Line

Marshall's first pro-level coaching assignment was with the Texans in 2002-05. He also was with the Browns in 2007-08 and joined the Packers staff last season as assistant offensive line coach.

Before and during that time he also coached on the college level at New Mexico State, Colorado, California, North Carolina, Texas A&M, UCLA, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Murray State, Louisville, Marshall and Plymouth State.

Kevin Patullo, Quarterbacks

Patullo, a Hillsborough, NJ, native who was the Titans' assistant wide receivers coach last year, will be in charge of developing the Jets' quarterbacks along with offensive coordinator Chan Gailey.

Patullo served three years on Gailey's Bills staff from 2010-12 as offensive quality control and assistant wideouts coach and also was on Herm Edwards' Chiefs staff in '07-08.

Marcel Shipp, Running Backs

Shipp coached alongside Bowles as an intern on the Cardinals staff in 2013, then last year was named running backs coach at his alma mater, Massachusetts.

He was a Cardinals RB for seven seasons from 2001-07, was on the Texans' offseason roster in '08, and spent four seasons with the United Football League's Las Vegas Locomotives, three as a player and 2012 as a coach.

Shipp was born in Paterson, NJ, played his high school ball at Passaic Tech in nearby Wayne, and had an outstanding playing career at  UMass.

The New York Jets Are Giving Unknowns Their Shot

 http://www.ganggreennation.com/2015/1/27/7923543/the-new-york-jets-are-giving-unknowns-their-shot

With a few exceptions, such as Chan Gailey (OC), Bobby April (ST), and Pepper Johnson (DL), the New York Jets coaching staff and front office is filled with first-timers. Before two weeks ago, would you recognize the names Kacy Rodgers (DC), Kevin Patullo (QB), Marcel Shipp (RB), Karl Dorrell (WR), or Robbie Brown (QC)? Had you heard of Rex Hogan (Director of College Scouting) or Brian Heimerdinger (Director of Player Personnel)? Most likely not.
Now, to be fair, most fans just don't know assistant coaches and members of the front office because their work is mostly behind the scenes. However, in this case, there are a number of new members of the team that are doing this for the first time. Rodgers was a defensive line coach previously. Patullo was an assistant wide receivers coach. Shipp is a former player. Heimerdinger is just 28 years old. It goes on.

Jets officially name Brian Heimerdinger director of player personnel. At 28, one of the youngest evaluators ever in that kind of position.

This is somewhat interesting to me. The team seems to be giving a lot of these unknown guys their shot. For the most part, they aren't bringing in retreads. Obviously, there's risk in this. There's no proven track record, and you're praying that Mike Maccagnan and Todd Bowles are just great evaluators of untapped talent, that they can see a bright future before anyone else. There's also upside. If they're right, you can get a young, dynamic staff. As Gailey has previously said:

At his introductory news conference, Chan Gailey warned Buffalo Bills fans he probably wouldn't hire many assistants they'd heard of.
He wasn't lying.
"Right now we are happy with the coaches that we have been able to get on the staff," Gailey said in a statement released by the Bills. "Ultimately, we want to make sure we get the right guys: great teachers, great communicators and the right kind of people for the Bills. These coaches give us a great start in that direction."

As I said, there's great risk. There's also great upside to hiring coaches like this. What do you think of the Jets hires so far?

The coaching staff is almost complete as a report surfaces suggesting we will hire Jimmie Johnson.

We're talking Jimmie Johnson the football coach rather than Jimmie Johnson the Nascar driver.

According to Adam Caplan, Johnson has told colleagues he will become TE's coach with the Jets:

Adam Caplan

Veteran TEs coach Jimmie Johnson told some coaching colleagues that he's joining #Jets staff to coach their TEs.

This is a really strong hire if and when it becomes official. Johnson was a tight end in the NFL for 10 years and although he was never a star, or much of a receiving threat, he was highly thought of. He started his coaching career as a running backs coach at South Carolina State before moving to Shaw, Texas Southern and eventually the Minnesota Vikings.

Under his stewardship as tight ends coach, Kyle Rudolph earned a pro-bowl place in 2012 with 9 receiving touchdowns. In 2008 Visanthe Shiancoe had 596 yards and 7 touchdowns then followed that up in 2009 with a 566 yard, 11 touchdown season. Jimmie Johnson knows how to coach up tight ends in the red zone thats for sure.

I'd be very happy with this hire, it would certainly add a bit of experience to the positional coaching position.

Seems like a very strong cohesive coaching staff!

With everyone on page with the type of team & attitude that Bowles wants to build.

Excited at the prospect of having 50 million to spend with competent leadership doing it. No more Chris Johnsons.

What the hell did Johnson do this year that Bilal Powell couldn't do other than a couple long runs?

CJ2 had a lot of drops too.

Jets are definitely gonna sign a FA RB. Who will it be?

Jets added 3 more members to the staff. Jimmie Johnson was officially announced as Tight Ends coach, plus Daylon McCutcheon (Assistant Defensive Backs) and Ryan Slowik (Assistant Defensive Line/Defensive Quality Control)

Slowik is coming over from Arizona where he worked under Bowles with similar job title.

McCutcheon is a former Browns corner who you may remember was a coaching aid for the Jets a few years back. Served a similar position in training camp last year with Cardinals.

Here is a rundown of the three latest hires:

• Johnson was Minnesota's tight ends coach from 2006-13. He was out of coaching last season. Johnson was previously the offensive coordinator at Texas Southern and Division II Shaw University.

Johnson played 10 seasons in the NFL as a blocking tight end (1989-98). He began his career playing for Washington, from 1989-91, where he and Bowles overlapped as teammates for two seasons.

• McCutcheon knows Bowles from a couple previous stops. McCutcheon was a training camp coaching intern in Arizona last year, when Bowles was the Cardinals' defensive coordinator. He was previously a high school defensive coordinator since 2007. In 2013, he was a training camp coaching intern with the Jets.

McCutcheon started at cornerback for the Browns from 1999-2005. Bowles was his position coach from 2001-04. So McCutcheon knows a thing or two about playing corner in the NFL. The Jets' cornerback position needs all the help it can get.

• Slowik was the assistant defensive backs coach with the Cardinals for the past two seasons, under Bowles. He was previously their outside linebackers coach (2012) and defensive quality control assistant (2009-11). He was previously with the Broncos from 2005-08, as a defensive assistant, special teams assistant and defensive backs assistant.

Impressive staff with some intriguing options at the bottom end of the staff.

I noticed Ron Heller, with the team last year and first year with Rex is still listed on staff as assistant OL coach, was he confirmed to be retained?

His name is still listed on the website, so I assume he's the lone holdover.
