Post steroids era makes the offense look horrible after you leave a draft.  5-10 years ago you could walk out of a draft with five or six 25 HR guys on your roster. I like it better this way as you have to manage more.

yep, last year I was hurt horribly by taking Pedroia as my first offensive player (late 2nd round)

Pedroia had a completely average season with zero power.  bum ass midget.

this year i got Goldy, i predict he hits over .300 with 35 homers and at least 100 RBI

I hope you learned your lesson about taking pitchers that early.

even Kershaw?

He's awesome, but I still wouldn't. Offensive numbers are so depressed and pitching numbers are so inflated that you can still put together a staff capable of competing in all categories by waiting until the middle rounds. You're just gonna have to get lucky with sleepers or waiver claims to supplement offense if you go pitching that early.

I'm pretty late noticing this just now, but nice thread! My draft isn't for another 2 weeks. I am however in a keeper league where each year you get to keep 3 players you drafted for the next 3 years. My 3 keepers are : Jose Bautista, Jose Abreu and Josh Donaldson. Can't complain.

Did a H2H draft the other day as kind of a practice draft. I don't mock. I want to live with the results. Anyway, I think I'm ready for roto this season.

I'm not real sure how to judge a H2H team. I'm definitely a roto kind of guy. I just did the one H2H this year to try it out because it's been at least half a decade since I was in a H2H. I like that you have a sh*tload of closers. That was one of my H2H strategies, too.

ESPN Standard H2H, 10 categories (BA, HR, RBI, SB, R;  ERA, W's, WHIP, K's, SV's), 8 teams, money league:

Round 1, Pick 5:  Carlos Gomez

2, # 12:  Jose Bautista

3, # 21:  Adrian Beltre

4, # 28:  Freddie Freeman

5, # 37:  Justin Upton

6, # 44:  Anthony Rendon (we're allowed a DL spot, figured it was worth snagging him here)

7, # 53:  Jordan Zimmerman

8, # 60:  Yoenis Cespedes

9, # 69:  Julio Teheran

10, # 76:  Jason Kipnis (2B until Rendon gets back)

11, # 85:  Christian Yelich

12, # 92:  Alexei Ramirez

13, # 101:  Evan Gattis

14, # 108:  Jason Heyward

15, # 117:  Manny Machado

16, # 124:  Michael Wacha

17, # 133:  Kris Bryant

18, # 140:  Steve Cishek

19, # 149:  Matt Adams

20, # 156:  Didi Gregorius (Two Yankee fans in our league so I reached a bit to get him)

21, # 165:  Shelby Miller

22, # 172:  Nathan Eovaldi

23, # 181:  Brett Cecil

24, # 188:  Neftali Feliz

25, # 197:  Bartolo Colon (Mets fan homer pick, whatevs)

One guy in the league decided to take 9 straight pitchers with his first 9 picks.  Fine by me.  I loaded up on offense and let the board come to me when it came to pitchers rather than reach.  I was happy to land Zimmerman and Teheran, and felt I got a couple steals by getting Wacha and Shelby Miller later.  I figure at least 4 of my pitching spots will end up in flux throughout the year.  They're like the fantasy baseball equivalent of Running Backs to me; there's always plenty of arms coming into the league that didn't get drafted.

So my lineup looks like this:

C:  Evan Gattis

1B:  Freddie Freeman

2B:  Jason Kipnis

3B:  Adrian Beltre

SS:  Alexei Ramirez

2B/SS:  Didi Gregorius

1B/3B:  Manny Machado

OF:  Carlos Gomez

OF:  Jose Bautista

OF:  Justin Upton

OF:  Yoenis Cespedes

OF:  Christian Yelich

UTIL:  Jason Heyward

DL:  Anthony Rendon

Bench:  Kris Bryant

Bench:  Matt Adams

Bench:  TBD (need to pick up one more player, probably a middle infielder, once Rendon officially hits the DL)

P:  Jordan Zimmerman

P:  Julio Teheran

P:  Michael Wacha

P:  Steve Cishek (RP)

P:  Shelby Miller

P:  Nathan Eovaldi

P:  Brett Cecil (RP)

P:  Neftali Feliz (RP)

P:  Bartolo Colon

Offense is king. Nice strategy, tried to do the same thing myself. Faith in Didi to hold down a starting job in fantasy? Don't know if he'll hit enough, coming from a yankee fan who loved the addition.

His defense will keep him in the lineup; if he flashes any offense at all I figure he can be a fantasy asset.  If not I cut him for someone else.

Only day 1 but I'm getting my ass kicked. Tanaka and Archer did terrible.

I wouldn't lose hope on either.  It's well known that Tanaka lost some velocity but he can be useful.  In fact, I made a buy-low trade offer for him.

Also, if you've seen the shown "Man Seeking Woman", having him on the roster makes for a hilarious team name.

Hoping for better starts out of Harvey and Pineda on Wednesday. And I haven't seen that show unfortunately !

I avoided Tanaka this year. Just red flags everywhere.

I am in way too many leagues this year. I had plenty of good things (3 shares each of Arenado/Dickerson) and bad things (streaming Collmenter, owning Phil Hughes) happen yesterday. I'm just so glad baseball is back. My dear old friend to get me through the cold, lonely months without football.
