2015 New York Yankees Baseball Thread

With pitchers and catchers reporting tomorrow, I figured it would be a good time to start the 2015 NYY thread. We can keep track of everything that happens throughout the season here. It's hard to predict the amount of wins for this team with all the question marks, I do think however they can compete for one of the two wild card spots. Good defense, elite bullpen. Let's hope the starting pitching stays healthy and the hitting turns it around.

Joe Girardi on a potential six-man rotation: “It’s something that we will talk about. As far as having a six-man rotation all the time, no. But if you get into long situations where you play 18 games in a row, could we inject a (sixth starter) to give the guys extra rest. Absolutely.”

Yankees absolutely should go with a 6 man rotation. There's no way CC and Pineda can survive an entire season pitching every 5 days and they have to be careful with Tanaka's elbow

The problem with the 6 man rotation is you lose a bench or bullpen guy.  The Yankees have an old team so they can't afford to lose a bench guy and I don't see how losing a bullpen pitcher helps them.

Carlos Beltran has reported early and has been doing a lot of work in the batting cage this winter following elbow surgery. He did say the soreness is worse some days than others. Brian McCann, Gary Sanchez, and the rest of the catchers took batting practice. Didi Gregorius has reported early.

CC Sabathia regained ten pounds this offseason — “I lost a bunch of weight drastically, pretty quick, two years ago, and kinda was off balance and didn’t know really how my body was working,” he said — and received regular platelet-rich plasma injections in his knee over the winter. He threw his first bullpen of the spring and is “able to go 100% and not feel anything.”

Final word on Workout 1 goes to Girardi: “There’s a collection of good young arms here. Obviously there’s guys that you’ve seen, but you look at the younger players that we had a chance to look at today. Those are some pretty good arms. And it’s not just from one side. It’s not just right-handed or left-handed, it’s both. And that’s exciting to us.”
