The New York Jets have initiated talks with Percy Harvin hoping for a renegotiated deal but that won’t happen with the wide receiver saying that he won’t agree on restructuring his contract according to a report in the latest in the National Football League.

Jason La Canfora, the NFL Insider for CBS Sports, reported the development on Monday and mentioned the teams interested in the veteran wide receiver should he part ways with his current team, the Jets.

Harvin was traded by his previous team, the Seattle Seahawks to the Jets in the middle of the 2014 NFLSeason. If the Jets decide to waive him, Harvin will most likely get a better deal from other NFL teams. The 26 year old Harvin in a six year NFL veteran who has also played for the Minnesota Vikings from 2009 to 2012, Seahawks in 2013 to 2014 and the Jets in 2014 playing for a total of eight games in the regular season.

In New York, Harvin had 350 receiving yards on 29 receptions with one touchdown. His career season was with Minnesota in 2011 when he had 967 receiving yards in 87 catches with 6 touchdowns.

“You have to look at different options you can do whether you carry him at his current contract, whether you try to restructure him for a more cap-friendly number,” Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan said before the NFL Combine and the new report.

The Jets GM also claimed that they are talking with Harvin’s agent already about the possibility of a restructured contract. The Seahawks acquired Harvin on March 11, 2013 in exchange for draft picks and was signed to a six-year $67 million contract but shipped to the Jets last season. The Seahawks did not miss his production as they made the Super Bowl XLIX where they lost to the New England Patriots.

I knew he wouldnt, once Dez Bryant & DeMarious Thomas get franchise tagged and Cobb re-up with the Packers we have no leverage,he will be the prize free agent wr,him & his agent knows this so whats next?

The guy got dumped from two franchises and, in this scenario, is about to shoot his way out of a third. He was had for a sixth rounder a few months ago after Seattle shopped him all over the league. He's not the prized FA anything.

Dude, it's a tweet from a guy who's about as reliable as a Toyota. My guess would be Harvin doesn't re-do his deal either, that's not exactly shocking. Why would he, makes no sense. He can get a new, decent deal somewhere else with a big signing bonus and a better QB situation.

Im with you but the thinking from him & his agent is Crabtree being his only competetion why not test the market with a rising salary cap & plenty of teams are wr hungry I understand the thinking.

"If the Jets decide to waive him, Harvin will most likely get a better deal from other NFL teams."

Um....no. Who is lined up to pay him more than $10.5/yr?

Exactly...from the second the Jets got him I figured he'd renegotiate because he's not getting 10.5 on the open market, so he'd be smart to see what the Jets are offering.  If they won't even come to the table, they gotta' let him go.

Agree with the consensus here. No way I renegotiate if I'm Harvin. He's not making $10.5M/year anywhere else, but if he sticks with the Jets and their QB situation, his value can only go down. He's not going to take a reduced contract just to lower his market value further. Pay me or cut me, that would be my stance, too.

Restructuring makes little sense for the Jets because it would still cost us a 4th round pick instead of a 6th round pick.  We are better off cutting him and putting him on the list of potential free agents and letting the market dictate his salary.  Money we have, draft picks we don't.

Harvin is well worth a 4th Rd pick but not well worth 10.5 mil with that being said I will keep him at a reduce rate for sure.

I do not believe there will be a hot market for hi.  Of course teams will want him but at what cost?  HE is a 6-7 million dollar player.  He should restructure with us and secure some money in the bank.  I'm sure his agents are telling him that he can get 10 million elsewhere.  Good luck with that.

Honestly what are you going to get in round 4 that is better than Harvin? Restructuring makes sense for the Jets, but it doesn't for Harvin.

The Jets still control the leverage:

- If they keep Harvin on his present contract if any of his "issues" crop up we cut him

with no negative salary ramifications

- If we cut him we keep our 4th rounder and have another 10.5 million of cap space to

use in free agency.  We could apply that to a free agent WR or if there are none left

we could use it to sign a OLB like Worilds.  Then use our first rounder on one of the

big WR's like Cooper, White or Parker

He has nothing guaranteed under his present contract.  He can be cut and buh-bye, there goes the salary.  Harvin should not restructure anything with the Jets that doesn't give him a lot of guaranteed money. Even if he gets a $7 million or $8 million per year deal with another team, it will come with plenty of guaranteed money, which is all that matters.  Harvin would be a fool to restructure with the Jets.  He'll wind up with way more guaranteed money by signing elsewhere.

Forget harvin. He's as good as gone.  Fine by me.  He is vastly overrated by many here.

That's a shame because Harvin tips the field - was the best player on O for the Jets last year (I know that's not saying much)

He hardly made any great plays. He was just lucky our dumb coaching staff shoved the ball down his throat any way they could. Ivory and Decker are/were our best players on offense, but of course our coaching staff figured out a way to get the ball to guys like CJ or Harvin instead. Thank God these idiots are gone.

Had our prior TWO regimes not bungled WR draft picks so badly, we'd have our own home-grown better version of Harvin minus baggage and injury problems.  Let's let the new regime hand-pick their WR's via the draft and see how it goes rather than spend big on other successful teams' castoffs.

With his contract becoming an issue once again this is a good time to really

ask, how good of a WR is Harvin from a technical standpoint?  We know he's

extremely fast and can be used in multiple roles KR, RB and WR.  But from

the little I've seen of him I don't think he's a very good route runner.  People

love nitpicking Decker but he is an exquisite route runner who can get open

with his feet and not just his speed.  Should we pay 10.5 million for a "jack

of all trades" offensive player who gets nicked up repeatedly and isn't a

good route runner???

Harvin's contract has no guarantees, so he can be cut with no cap ramifications at any point and he won't see any of that money. He's not going to get that kind of deal on the open market, and the Jets could easily offer him guarantees in exchange for lower cap figures.

On the other hand, why would they given he's a problem child and they don't have cap issues this year? They can play wait and see and cut him for nothing after the season if it doesn't work out. The issue is the pick, and that's a negative, but it's not a huge deal.

I believe the date that the pick comes into play is what, a week or two into FA? So the Jets can also go into FA, sign a WR, cut Harvin, and have him go into a market where most of the money has been spent and he's a guy who's been on 3 teams in the last few years and has had injury issues.

So there's certainly leverage for the Jets in this situation. No need to renegotiate if they don't like the deal and no need to cut him until FA starts to play out.

CJ Spiller can be our kick/punt returner + rb for a quarter of the price but the problem is we need to be adding talent not losing any I hope he can be obtained at a fair market value for both sides I hate to lose him.

Jets fans are trapped in this Idzik bunker of not paying people

the cap goes up every damn year. It's going up 10 mil this year

someone will pay this player.

I agree but why should we? At 6 either of Cooper/white/Parker will be there for the taking. Cheaper, better receivers are flooding the league. Harvin is overrated IMO.

1st off it's highly speculative to say Cooper/White is better than Harvin. You hope they are but it's a projection.

the bottom line is the Jets have to pay someone. they are well below the league floor.

$10.5 for his (lack of) production? No way.

his KC and MIN games are indicative of what kind of player he can be

keep in mind WR production is based on QB service. The Jets have the worst QB situation in the league so... it's not surprising the WR production suffers.
