Jaguars to hire John Idzik

Idzik got us a lot of cap space to work with. He's like Phil Jackson, tanking for the year, but not being given a chance to complete his plan.

Dick Kotite tanked and got us a top draft pick while discovering Wayne Chrebet. Guy was a genius.

Of course there are such stories. Those guys are looking for work. As it would seem Idzik is not. In any event, it's a fair point that his own capacity for talent evaluation never played nearly the role in decision making as people think. It's not like we win or lose wars on the president's personal aptitude for military strategy. He's a manager. Managers manage.

You're better than this.

Idzik went in front of the team, with his arm around Rex, and shouted "This is our coach!" In 2013, Rex was Woody's coach. In 2014, Rex became Idzik's guy.

Sabotaging Rex last year (if that's what he really did) is no better than Rex half-assing it as a result. Love him or hate him, you don't set your coach up to fail. If Idzik really did that, then he was an even worse GM than we think. That's an extremely unprofessional move.

Woody never should have hired Idzik. If you're going to fire your GM, and retain your coach, then the best move (in a bad situation) would be to let the coach bring in his own personnel man.

The bright side is it appears as if Woody finally gets it now.

Idzik didn't sabotage Rex. The whole organization knew that Idzik was taking a knife to the cap. Woody Johnson sabotaged Idzik because he is a sucker for peer pressure.

With that said....Rex and Idzik both happened to suck and I'm glad they are gone - but it's not for Idzik failing to deliver on any cap strategy that wasn't totally transparent on day 1.

Woody ****ed Idzik hard.
