Jason Worilds is a free agent LB we must sign

A league source confirmed to ESPN Steelers reporter Scott Brown that the team plans to let free agent OLB Jason Worilds hit the market.

Worilds has 15.5 sacks over the last two seasons, but the Steelers will let the open market establish his value. As a 27-year-old pass rusher, Worilds' market should be strong despite the fact that he wasn't seen as a core defender in Pittsburgh. Disappointing 2013 first-round pick Jarvis Jones is currently the Steelers' only outside linebacker signed for 2015.

the steelers "letting the market set the price" means they know he isn't worth what he is asking for so they will let the other teams prove it, or sign him

they usually don't make mistakes on a 2nd or 3rd contract

be careful with this one

DeMario Davis and IK are the only LBs that are starter worthy on the roster Pace is a situational LB at this stage of the game and Harris will be gone if he doesn't agree to less money add Worilds and Acho and you have linebackers who can play the game with identity something this team has lacked for years

There's a sh*tload of 3-4 pass rushers out there this year, if we don't land one of the top 5 guys I have to question Woody's motives. Justin Houston will be tagged, but you still have Orakpo, Worilds, Sheard, McPhee and a couple of other guys that have 10 sacks per year potential. Whoever Bowles likes best out of that group that's who we should be targeting. I'd say Worilds first and then Orakpo. Only thing with Orakpo bothers me is his health which is a red flag.

He def has that slightly above avg at something's, great at nothing feel.

But maybe we're just jaded.

I don't think anyone can deny we overpaid Pace.

Pace was basically a 1st round bust for Arizona, maybe overpaid on the first contract but he has been a good Jet, came back after he got cut and played 16 games with 10 sacks in 2013

Worilds is a better and younger player at this point in his career with experience in the 3-4 so would expect him to have a better career in NY

The Jet should be parked outside his house for the start of FA

Worilds is a player and a very good fit. If we have to overpay to bring him in, so be it, we have the scratch. Bring that dude in asap!

No overpaying him.  Not sure what the going rate would be for him.  Maybe 7 8 million.  If that is it I'd do it.  If it's 5 or 6 million do it.  Anything over what the average is no thank you.  Not worth having major cap issues in 3-5 years.  I believe in spending this offseason (we have to) but don't overpay.  We'll be right back to the Santonio Holmes, Sanchez time where we are overpaying guys and we have to keep them on the team and not be able to get players we need.  No thank you.

McPhee is a bust waiting to happen. He's got knee issues, he's always had weight issues and he's got like 10 sacks over the last 3 years. Nobody knows what they'll be getting with this guy. I wouldn't pass on somebody like Worilds to get this guy, too many question marks. He might be one of those guys that are only motivated by money.

I'm going on blind faith and trusting the new regime to target the best LB for our team based on skill and financial fit.  With that said, I have had Worilds on my priority list of FA's.  I would like to pair him with Davis, resign Harris and draft a young buck.

I'll pass on both. I agree with everything you said.

You hit the nail right on the head. Not only do they not make mistakes, they replace these guys with better players. One thing I'll add......Steelers promoted lb coach to D coordinator. Should that tell you something about letting this player test the market?

On the surface Worilds would be a good fit at OLB.  But you have to give credit to PIT for

letting players go "who are on the way down".  If we do pursue him that thought will be in the

back of my mind

Pittsburgh is not in cap heaven like we are.  He obviously wants more money than they currently are offering and will probably get it.  He's a good player but he is not a guy that they are going to break the bank for.
