WHY would you not want him? Any competent Jets fan realizes that Stevie Johnson addresses MANY needs for THIS NY Jets team @ this particular point in time:

1) Veteran WR FA - We HAVE TO $$$pend Cap Money. Vets cost more b/c they have higher minimums.

2) He not only KNOWS Gailey's system, It MADE him RELEVANT and SJ had HIS BEST YEARS under Gailey

3) Instant Plug&Play WR who does not need to ACCLIMATE to the NFL like a rookie WR.

4) Non-guaranteed Short term deal so he can walk when the younger prospects ready to contribute> If he's horrendous, cut him.

The same way Jim Leonhard - while not exceptional - is still employed in the NFL b/c he thrived under a certain system. Johnson is that chess piece for Gailey and it'll come pretty cheap for the Jets; low risk high reward. Clarifying I'm still up for drafting a premium WR, but adding SJ has no NEGATIVE ramifications for this team in DIRE NEED of offensive speed & weapons.

he wont cost much and he is an upgrade to our receiving corps. he knows gailey's system and did well in it. he is not old. I don't see this as a bad idea at all. we need upgrades, and this is an upgrade that wont cost too much. this signing doesn't stop us from pursuing any other receivers or even drafting one.....its just a minor piece on the chess board

If memory serves me, wasn't he one of the few WR's that gave Revis fits? 28 years old, played very well for Gailey, we need wr depth and we won't break the bank. Yea - let's rule him out.

Stevie Johnson is only 28? Why do I feel like he should be like Steve Smith's age?

It will be interesting to see if they have him in.  The guy has literally done nothing except his three thousand yard seasons under Gailey.  I know everybody thinks he is going to come so cheap, but he was going to get $6M in SF.  That is why he was cut and it appears he may have refused a pay cut.  It's not like he was free. Good chance he will still cost and he might be done.  I would expect them to have him in.

People need to remember what a mess San Fran was last year. It's impossible to judge him off of last year.

I wouldn't bring him in and tell him to start outside. Put him in the slot and draft a wide out that could hopefully play outside (Cooper? White? DGB in rnd 2?)

White/Decker/S.Johnson/Kerely is really solid.

Agreed. Some won't admit it (Hi ESPN), but Kaepernick stinks. He was good for a minute and then everyone figured out his schtick.

If I'm the #Jets you're damn right I add Stevie Johnson to pair with Decker and reunite him with Gailey.

There's news out from the San Francisco 49ers today that they have released WR Stevie Johnson. Johnson, you may recall, used to play on the Buffalo Bills. In fact, Johnson had three straight 1,000-yard seasons with the Bills, and specifically when Chan Gailey was their head coach. With the seemingly likely release of Percy Harvin, Johnson may make sense as a New York Jet.

Obviously, Johnson has played his best when he was with Gailey. He was also the one guy that gave Darrelle Revis, now with the New England Patriots, a hard time. However, it's been two years since his last 1,000-yard season, and he's hovered around 500 yards per season since. The 49ers are releasing him, however, because they'll save $6 million in cap space in the process. Perhaps a return to Gailey would mean a return to his successful ways.

I'm certain that Gailey immediately picked up the phone and called Maccagnan re: Stevie.

All Coaches coming into a new program want "Their Guys" around to help teach the other players the new system.

Spiller for the RB's..... Stevie for the WR's .... and if they can pull off a deal, Fitzpatrick for the QB's.

All of them will see significant playing time in Chan's system.

Stevie was the only receiver who made Revis look human. I'd bring him in and see what's left in the tank. I saw him play with SF and he still looked plenty quick enough. Always was getting behind the coverage.

Real Jet fans who watched when Revis was in his prime (2009-2011) know this.  For whatever reason Johnson

was able to have good games against Revis
