Nearly one year after becoming the poster child for the NFL’s image problem, and five months after the Ravens terminated his contract, Ray Rice says he is humbled.

The three-time Pro Bowl running back sparked a national debate on domestic violence following the release of surveillance video from an Atlantic City casino that showed Rice punching his wife in a hotel elevator. The ordeal has led Rice to comment on his understanding of depression and why people may contemplate ending it all.

“The big picture of it all, being the person that I am, I really felt horrible,” Rice said in a recent interview with The Baltimore Sun. “You almost want to punish yourself. I know I’m never going to win the battle of public opinion. Honestly, I almost felt like at one point that it wasn’t worth living. I see why people commit suicide.”

The NFL reinstated the 28-year-old in November, but Rice has yet to receive a contract offer. The New Rochelle native and former Rutgers star eclipsed 1,000 yards rushing in four of six years as a professional, but said he knows the NFL is in a transition period.

I'm starting to believe after reading this and his apology that this was a case of a guy who is not all bad who did a bad thing.

If the guy didn't apologize I would feel differently but the guy has been very remorseful.

He's 28 and I feel has some gas left in the tank.

Am I crazy to think he deserves another chance?  Do the Jets make him an offer?  Probably could get him on the cheap as he seems pretty desperate to get back in the league.

PR nightmare?  Another circus?  I don't know.  Curious to hear what my Jet brethren has to say.

...No.. Not in this atmosphere. He doesn't need to be in NY. He needs to hope for a small marketed team to seek interest And quietly play his career out.

There's just nothing worse than self-pity, I can't stand people like this. You were man enough to beat the living sh*t out of your wife, and now you're gonna crumble because some paper writes negatively about you or certain fans think of you as a scumbag? You POS.

As for your question, no, you're not crazy if you think he deserves a second chance in the NFL. I mean, Ray Lewis did. Leonard Little did. And many more, for worse crimes. Then again, they didn't have twitter/social media back then. There's no footage of Ray stabbing another man to death or Leonard Little that drunk turd killing some poor woman in a car crash.

No team will take a chance on him, he's not worth the bscklash at this point in his career.

Now Adrian Peterson will be on a roster come September because he still has gas left in the tank.....that's the difference. I wouldn't want either of them.

Hernandez upped the Thug Bar Rice would at least have to put someone in a Coma to satisfy the Pats.. :winking0001:

Who cares what a player does off the field, as long as they produce on the field?

Or would you rather have a 53-man roster full of choir boys and go 4-12 every year?

Funny thing is back when Jim Brown played he was notorious for smacking around his GF's he once threw one out of a 2nd story window.. As for what they do off the field not mattering if your in jail for something you did off the field you wont be on the field either.. :winking0001:

That broad probably deserved to be thrown out a 2nd story window, damn gold-digger.

Didn't hurt Brown's career whatsoever.

Not for me with the Yankees. After the second Arod contract I became a much more indifferent fan. Still waiting for him to leave. Although it's at a point where the hate is so universal it's almost become endearing.

Point is it's more fun when you can actually like the star players.

I can understand that Hess.

But the only reason I watch the NFL every Sunday is for the Pats to win.

Could care less what players do on their own time.

It was the 60's if you can remember them you didn't have a good time.. Sex,Drugs and Rock&Roll...LOL

So let's apply the same thought process to posters on a message board.

Am I suppose to think less of you because you liked sex, drugs and rock & roll?

You produce as a poster, that's my point.

I love how if you haven't killed anybody that makes you a choir boy in NE. What else would you expect from a team that gets caught cheating every time they achieve something.

I love jealous and envious Jets fans.

Good luck on the upcoming draft.
