Jets prefer Powell over Spiller

Then, the Jets are idiots. Powell is JAG. Spiller was elite under Gailey in 2012 and surely would not cost but around the same thing Chris Johnson did.

It is Cimini, so take it with a grain of salt.  The blurb says $1.6-2M.  That certainly would not preclude any other moves and is the kind of deal that isn't going to have require him to be on roster due to guarantees.

Id prefer this over CJ. 100%

The only problem is if Duke is not selected with our 5th pick in round 2 he will be off the board by our next selection so the new regime must decide if he's going to be our franchise back moving forward.

If Ivory were to get hurt I can't see Spiller being the featured back.  Powell could handle that load more.  Powell comes at a very low cost and the Jets could target a dynamic type runner in the draft.

With that said though, I would like to see Spiller in green and white as well.

It truly cracks me up how unimaginative some fans are that they can only envision Gailey having success with players they've seen him coach before. The man has coached longer than most of us have been alive. I'm the philosophy is "get him the best players we can", not "get him all of his old Bills that flashed good moments with him".

The whole write-up on Gailey is that he gets the most out of his players. So, with Spiller and Stevie Johnson he got good play out of them, but they've sucked otherwise. I wonder what Gailey could get out of players that don't suck in all circumstances other than those that Gailey puts them in?

Imagine what that would be like.

Just out of curiosity, wouldn't you think Gailey would be part of this decision, since he is the OC?

Idk man, the way that positioned is devalued he might just slip to round 3.

I don't know who's saying that.  But at the RB position we've lacked "special" talents for a long time.  Whether we get one via the draft or free agency I'd like to see us invest just a little more in the position.  Spiller makes a lot of sense because you just don't know what you'll get out of those mid-rounders.

CJ Spiller was a top ten pick in the draft. Stevie Johnson was a seventh rounder. It isn't remotely the same thing. Stevie was a scrub that Gailey made look good. Spiller was an elite talent that Gailey made look like an elite talent.

Don't mind him, his nickname pretty much gives away his sole purpose on this board.

If I seem like I'm actually a troll to you, then you must just have a barrage of terrible ideas. I want the Jets to be better. If you don't jive with my opinions, fine, but don't disparage me just because I don't agree with you.

How the hell would you know what you have in Powell if you're not gonna give him a shot? How would you be able to tell if he's a special talent or not? Don't tell me you already know, because that's obviously bullsh*t. No offense.

What did you expect? You call out our FO, you're saying they're all idiots because they value Powell and what he brings to the table? You want to drop that guy for Spiller? What exactly has he done last year that would make anybody pick him over Powell? This is the same thing we went through last year with Chris Johnson. Let's bring in all the big name guys, all the flashy dudes out there. Vick, CJ2K, yeah, sexy. Worked out really well for us, did it not.

I want hard working guys that get the job done, guys that have upside, guys that get better. Vick, CJ2K and Spiller don't fit the bill.

Um, relax everyone.

Does anyone honestly believe that someone from this new regime tipped off Cimini about anything they are planning at the RB position or anything else up their sleeve for that matter?

Anyone of us could spout off these headlines if we had a forum too.

It's no different than me wanting to figure out how to get Suh in here to team up with Mo & Shel, lol.

Sure it's a crazy azz idea, but it's really no different than Cimini hinting that the Jets want Powell over Spiller.

How the hell would he know?

My next headline:

Jets sign Suh, Maxwell, Cromarty, McCourty! Jets sure to get offensive in the draft!

Well, good for you, Blue Collar Charlie. I want elite talents that averaged 6 yards per carry and rushed for 1,250 yards just two years ago in our exact offensive system. Chris Johnson had over 1,700 career carries before coming to the Jets. Spiller has less than 700. Yes, the tread on his tires is just like CJ.

What the sh*t are you talking about with the "We don't know what Powell can do!" nonsense. HE PLAYED THE EXACT SAME ROLE IN 2013 THAT HE WOULD PLAY NEXT YEAR IF HE'S THE RB2. Did you forget that? He had 176 carries and averaged four yards on the dot to go with one glorious touchdown.

The reason the Jets are interested in Powell over Spiller is quite simple.  They are allowed to negotiate with Powell now, but can't with Spiller until next week. It makes sense to try to lock Powell up cheap while they can.  Cimini may have said that he was "generating buzz" but the same rotoworld page said:

He is an impending free agent and will draw scant interest on the open market as a limited-talent role player

If they can lock him up cheap, he is a nice fall back.  They can still go out and look for someone like Spiller or in the draft.  I am wondering what they think of Ivory.  Is Gailey going to find ways to use him or are they going to wish they didn't have him?  They may not like Ivory being so one-dimensional and may even look to move him.

If you are looking to maximize your value versus what you have to pay for that value, Powell is a much better bet.  For Spiller you will pay handsomely for potential which, to date, has only shown itself on rare occasions.  Powell will probably be more productive, but do it a little differently.

I understand the production per dollar argument, but Powell has never been as productive as Spiller.  I don't see why he would start now.

This board is obsessed with our mid round jags (Kerley, Powell), just because they haven't been total busts, but yet still only play up to their 5th round talents.
