I can't say I wouldn't love to see him brought in and he seems to be a very popular choice among Jets fans right now.  Surprised at the lack of concern over his suspect pass protection over the past few years though.

Am I the only one thinking he may not be a great fit for that reason if we were to go to a spread offense?

From what I heard/read fans say he's pretty shaking in pass protection. Idk what to believe

Googled it and several articles cite his struggles in pass protection.  Tied for NFL lead among guards last year surrendering 7 sacks with a very mobile QB and also allowed 22 pressures.  Saw some stuff where he said himself during the pre-season that he had pass pro issues that were easily correctable but on-field results would suggest they weren't.

We have to figure something out. Can't go into next year with Aboushi and Winters as the starting Guards unless you want to go 4-12 again.

Of course not, but there are other FA's out there.  Again, I wouldn't hate adding a guy like Iupati, but I'd prefer a cheaper, more well rounded option.

Iupati seems like his production doesn't live up to his big name. I feel he'll get overpaid which is not to suggest he wouldn't be an upgrade. Our Guard situation is really quite bad.

Winters has been terrible but Aboushi was solid and we still gotta' get a look at Dozier.   I still say they bring in at least one vet starter and maybe let Aboushi/Winters/Dozier fight it out for one of the two spots.

I agree with this. aboushi seemed light years ahead of his rookie season and dozier has good upside. imo, you sit/cut bait with breno and bring in the best right tackle you can and add a vet like blalock to hold the fort till dozier is ready. I think the guard position will work itself out with who is on the roster already with a player like blalock as the insurance policy. actually, breno is strong at the point of attack and can handle a bulrush but is slow footed and could be better suited for guard than tackle

Aboushi deserves a chance to start.  Question is: can Dozier step in at RG?  If not they need to bring someone in or draft.

I don't want Brian Winters anywhere but on the bench.  The scouting report on Winters out of college was that he plays with a mean streak, but it's meaningless if you can't pass block 1-on-1 in the NFL.  He's a career backup.

Getting Lupati would remind me of when we got Faneca back way when and it solidified our line for some time. Faneca also was much stronger at run blocking then pass blocking as he would get some holds and give up sacks at times. Difference now is though Faneca was an insertion at Guard for a run heavy offense at the time, while Lupati would be used in a spread offense, but no matter that, these Jets are going to still be very run heavy as Gailey should be smarter that Marty M. to play more to our current strengths since getting much better QB play this year is going to be tough, unless we get a FA QB that works out well or gailey works magic with Geno (Hope So).

I can't remember who was talking about this on the radio, but whoever it was said that Franklin would be a better fit in the offense that Chan Gailey likes to run. He likes players that can move & pull.

I guess Iupati doesn't move as fluidly when he get to the 2nd tier.

Boling is one of the mediocre players benefiting from people being scared to pay the premium guys for bullsh*t and bullsh*t. Carpenter, I think, is a legit buy low candidate and maybe a Woody candidate who can move to RT.

I want Iupati, but there are a couple interesting FA interior linemen too. I like Wisniewski.

No, I want nothing to do with him. Emphasizing run blocking over pass blocking was what Rex did and was another reason our QBs struggled.
