My thoughts is Meyers is a dumbass and a hack, he knows nothing, the game passed him by a while ago...

He thinks Mariota is going to be a star,  how rich, how ingenious.

Don't disagree with the thought, but coming from Meyers for me deflatriots it!

He really does come off as unaware when it comes to the game.

Kim Jones carries him when they're on The Fan together.

I would trade 6 for Rivers and 17 but still want an extra first next year

Bree's would be a salary dump so has less trade value, plus he is a big part of NO (I would love to have him on the Jets but not sure it makes sense for NO) I could see them sending picks for 6 (they have 2 firsts after the Graham trade) and using Mariota to negotiate Bree's salary down

Would FA have been better with Bree's instead of Cro, Skirine and Gilcrest?  that is an interesting question

I like the super DB unit

I think the reporters are just trying to find crap to write about at this point, I doubt either of them are up for trade (atleast for any reasonable price) and if the cost is more than a mid to late first round pick for either of them than the price isn't worth is as both are getting old, aside from that could we even afford to pay them at this point?

here is the jay cutler trade

The Jay Cutler Trade (2009 & 2010 NFL Drafts)

In the wake of the Josh McDaniels’ hiring as the Broncos head coach, the team jettisoned its two most potent offensive weapons from the season before. Brandon Marshall was traded to the Dolphins (a deal which will come into play later in this post - so stay tuned) and Jay Cutler was traded to the Bears.

Here was the deal:

Denver Received

  • Pick #18 (Rd. 1) in the 2009 Draft
  • Pick #84 (Rd. 3) in the 2009 Draft
  • Pick #11 (Rd. 1) in the 2010 Draft
  • Kyle Orton

Chicago Received

  • Jay Cutler
  • Pick #140 (Rd. 5) in the 2009 Draft

Getting a player of the calibre of Brees or Rivers is worth a lot.  We're talking multiple first round picks, this years 6th, next years 1 and probably a 2 and a 3 at some later point.

The Jets would instantly be super bowl contenders with the strong defense and the new offensive weapons.  It would be a no brainer deal, even if you mortgage your future down the road (and i'd argue the Jets have already done that by signing Revis and the pack of FA's this year).

I sincerely doubt SD or NO would be stupid enough to do that though.  Those guys are basically their entire team.

moving from 17 to 6 is pricey too.

I have to think rivers would cost;

#6 this year

mid round pick this year

first round pick next year

mid round pick next year

fitzpatrick (for cap space)

harris or wilkerson (for cap space)

then are you better off ?  rivers is very talented but hardly a post season success story

I think he hasn't signed an extension because he doesn't have to.  he wants to wait until the last day to see where SD is with the stadium deal

no GM is going into a new stadium without the star QB but hey look I have a couple of run stuffers and picks.... whoop dee damn doo

The rivers deal makes no sense. Rivers wants to go to FA to determine his value. Why would he fore go that to go to the jets and sign long term  never mind rework the deal he has now?

All the jets will be doing is getting a disgruntled player when they tag him for the 2016 season.

Brees sucks outside a dome and specially in the Meadowlands.

Rivers is my 2nd favorite qb.

Sure, starting point for negotiations, if you are going to dream, why not dream big, SD scheduled the private workout with Mariota, SD would be making the call when the Jets are on the clock, why pay market value? we saw what happens when a GM falls in love with a QB, Washington sold the farm for RG3 and looked brilliant during his rookie year

Aging franchise QB's have gone cheap when the team is ready to move on; Favre went for a 3rd, Manning was a FA, etc...

Hard part for us Jets fans is "Favre for one more year Vs. Sanchez" easy to answer in hindsight but many wanted the Sanchise in 09

all probably a moot point since the market does seems to be heating up for Mariota and he will not make it to 6

Would take Rivers or Bree's but this is just more BS as Mariota will not make it to 6, it's like kicking a dead horse. I am not a Mariota fan boy or anything but all these articles are just a waste of time he will be gone before 6.

Meyers is a patriot fan. I'm not kidding he is. All this jets mariota talk is a big FU to to the jets "doesn't matter what you do you don't have a qb you gotta gamble on the next bust qb out of Oregon"

Rivers will be traded to Washington at pick five. The Chargers will take Marcus Mariota and will give the Redskins several other picks. SD may also want Colt McCoy or Cousins as a stop gap while Mariota develops. The Chargers know Rivers isn't the guy to take them to the SB, he stumbles and falls come playoff time. Of course half of his weapons are on IR by the time the playoffs roll around and he can't do it all himself. I just think SD won't give in to his new contract demands while Washington is both stupid and desperate so they will fall all over themselves doing this deal.

If the chargers do that it would be the dumbest trade ever. To go from Rivers to Mariota c'mon

I love this argument.  Getting the best cornerback in football hurts our future because of the cap.  Lets just completely ignore:

1.  That the cap is going up at an unprecedented rate which has been bailing out teams who've done this in the past (Saints, Broncos, Pats etc)

2.  The teaching value a guy like Revis brings:  We have recent 1st and 3rd round CB picks on this team.  Do you think they will develop better with Marcus ******* Williams in their ear over arguably the best cornerback in NFL history?

3.  The recruiting angle.  Revis is instant credibility.  People look at this team as a contender now.  Lesser guys will sign here because of his presence alone.

4.  WE HAD TO SPEND THE MONEY.  Sure we actually could have not spent it and then just paid everyone on the roster a little bit more thereby signaling to the NFL that we are not interested in even trying to field a competitive team...I'm sure that would go a long way towards curing this teams reputation as perennial losers.  It's not a coincidence that all of these contracts are loaded with guaranteed money as the entire signing bonus counts against the "cap floor".

but yeah we are completely murdering our future for Revis  :bag:

He's 36 years old. If he was, say 32, you would have been right. But with a $120mil contract and his best years far behind him, I wouldn't offer much more than just a trade up from the 17th to the 6th overall.
