Jets Mock Draft Post FA

Draft:

1. OLB Vic Beasley > an edge rusher that would soar with big Mo and Sheldon on the inside, add Beasley coming off the edge and you have yourself the making of an elite defense front-7.

2. OL Cameron Erving > great value here, can compete for the RG starting spot as a rookie, and eventually replace Mangold in the future.

3. RB Duke Johnson > a speedy back who would fit perfectly in our spread offense. Cheaper backup plan for CJ Spiller.

4. ILB Hayes Pullard > a hard worker who has the tape but lacks measurable's scouts desire (arm length being one of them), can backup Harris and be a leader on special teams.

7. DE Olsen Pierre > value pick who would have to fight to make final roster.

Release:

1. OLB Jason Babin > I favor Pace over Babin if I had to pick one or the other. Pace is an established leader in the locker room and provides a high football IQ for the younger players. Also do not forget about IK Enkempali, this kid can get after the QB and will fight for time this year.

2. TE Jeff Cumberland > Way too pricey to be backup TE. Amaro's role should expand this year as should Zach Sudfeld / Chris Pantale.

3. CB Darin Walls > cap figure of $1.1 million, not happening, Marcus Williams beat him out for the starting role last year and he is cheaper. Goodbye Darin! Revis, Cro, Skrine, Milliner, McDougle, Williams, and Curtis Brown should be the list. Antonio Allen also has corner experience which will probably be the final 8th spot, penciled as a safety with flexibility to change to corner.

Keep on Radar:

1. WR Denarius Moore > We still need someone to stretch the field, only guy we have at moment is TJ Graham and Chris Owusu, expect management to bring someone in to compete.

We are carrying 13 offensive lineman, many of them guards or can play the guard position.  We have Dalton Freeman as Mangolds heir apparent.  Only way this makes sense if:

A. Irving is far and away the best player on the board at 37

B. If he plays Left or Right Tackle and could be groomed to replace Brick or Breno (which he doesn't)

In the 7th I would take a flyer on Darren Waller 6'6' 240 WR from Georgia Tech.

Everybody loves Duke Johnson on this board, but I like Jay Ajayi better for this team. Also, I'm not sure either guy lasts until round 3. Round 2 might be where you have to take a RB and use 3/4 to grab an offensive lineman or wide receiver. Depends on what happens at 6 (probably pass rusher at this point).

Why are we cutting any players? They are still under the cap, have room for more moves and the rookies. Cutting anyone makes no sense unless they did something stupid. Cutting someone at corner is equally questionable. You have two veterans with injury histories, a slot corner, and then two young guys with injury histories that you have no idea how good they are or if they'll be game ready at the beginning of the season. Depth at CB was the Achilles Heel (no pun intended) of this team in 2014 and you want to cut solid depth from that for no particular reason? And Marcus Williams didn't beat out Walls. He beat out Wilson and Adams, neither of which are on the team anymore. Antonio Allen having experience at corner means nothing. He was awful there.

Marcus Williams beat out Darrin Walls last year ? I don't remember that for some reason . Anyway Unless one of them can play safety they probably both will cut. Especially if Millner and Mcdougle are healthy

Not a chance Williams is cut this year, Undrafted rookie who we are paying almost nothing and he was probably the best corner on our team last year to boot.

No way we are getting rid of him.  He was the best last year down the final stretch of games.  Dude has some talent and will benefit being around Revis and Cro to the nth degree.
