faba
NFL To Penalize Falcons, Browns Adam Schefter discusses the punishments the NFL is expected to hand down to the Falcons for piping in crowd noise over the past two years and to Browns general manager Ray Farmer, who sent texts to personnel during games. NFL To Penalize Falcons, Browns The NFL is expected to suspend Falcons president Rich McKay from the competition committee and take a draft pick from Atlanta for piping crowd noise into its stadium over the past two years, sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. The NFL could also place heavy fines on the Falcons, according to sources. The league is expected to officially hand down the discipline no later than Tuesday. Falcons owner Arthur Blank already has acknowledged wrongdoing, saying that the situation is "embarrassing." "I think what we've done in 2013 and 2014 was wrong," Blank said last month. "Anything that affects the competitive balance and fairness on the field, we're opposed to, as a league, as a club and as an owner. "It's obviously embarrassing, but beyond embarrassing, it doesn't represent our culture and what we're about." Atlanta has been accused of piping in the noise while opposing teams were huddling, trying to call their plays. Some around the league have argued that silent counts have rendered crowd noise more irrelevant, and it's difficult to discern how much of an advantage it gave the Falcons. The Falcons went 3-4 at the Georgia Dome this season -- they played a "home" game in London -- and were blown out there 34-3 by the Carolina Panthers in Week 17 with the NFC South Division title on the line. FidelioJet
PAts better lose a first rounder for deflating footballs at least.... Needs to be a 1 and a BB suspension. Doesn't need to be a long suspension but certainly needs to be one. 1st round pick and 3 games - while still not enough it should be the starting point. PFSIKH
PAts better lose a first rounder for deflating footballs Yeah, good luck with that. Again, short of a video camera showing someone deflating, there is no evidence the Patriots did anything wrong. We do know the refs did not do their part. prime21
Did Parcells ever get suspended for opening the gates at the Meadowlands? lol Pats story is a joke at this point. They have had more than enough time to figure it out and based on the info that we have heard they had already identified someone and a location. JetsFanInDenver
BB should be banned from this league. This is his second offense. Brady should be suspended for 1 season. Plus the Pats should be docked their first two round picks. Anything less than that and the Deflategate investigation is a sham. I am not sure if this time around commish has any integrity surplus left with the football following public. So anything less would be a HUGE blowback. FidelioJet
That someone will be the scapegoat n be fired. End of the gate... I don't think they can get away with that....The precedent was set two years ago when the "I didn't know about it" excuse didn't work for Sean Payton. BB needs to be suspended - I just don't see any way around it.

I couldn't agree with you more....But I think the more likely scenario is they're going to say there's not any evidence to prove wrongdoing - take some heat a week (the ESPN machine will kick in with its - it didn't matter anyway BS) and it'll be over and forgotten within weeks.... I, for one, will be done with the NFL....but not enough will be and as long as it doesn't affect their bottom line it won't change the way things go. This is how complacent businesses lose customer's. If they do nothing or something that's perceived as a gentle slap on the wrist a lot of people will be turned off. All that reflect's in TeeVee numbers. This just might be the proverbial last straw that broke the camel's back.

I promise you, it will be for me.... and it won't be a protest thing - it'll simply be because I would no longer be able to watch an NFL game and believe it's fair. I'll become one of those crazy conspiracy theory people blaming all the Jet's problems on the refs and the league....I don't want to watch football like that. The evidence in this case is just too damning and the advantage was too big to be ignored.... They either find them guilty (which has to mean major penalties) or they exonerate them completely - I don't see a middle ground there.

FidelioJet
Re Browns... GM Ray Farmer suspended first 4 games of '15, plus $250k fine for team. I'm starting to get the sense...these penalties are coming out first - and they are lighter than I expected...so they'll announce deflate gate penalties shortly thereafter - they'll be a little worse but nothing serious and that's how they'll justify it.. maybe 3rd rounder and $1mm fine. No suspension.
peekskill68
If the league docks the Falcons only a 5th and some money for blatant cheating, and doesn't hit the Browns with a pick for the GM texting, I'm calling BS if there's more involved than Woody writing a check for his dumb comments at that press conference. The Falcons (and likely the Patriots) willfully cheated. Woody just goes Mr. Magoo sometimes when he's forced to speak publicly...

I honestly don't believe the Jets will get hit for a pick - too many people clearly broke the rules during that legal tampering window that they're just going sweep the entire tampering thing under the rug this year. Yeah, but Woody opened his mouth during the season. IMHO, tampering is a joke. Whether player, GM/Coach or agent, they all know back channels to communicate to a player/agent. If Revis was about to sign an extension and Woody opened his mouth, then they should get fined. Short of a smoking gun, there is little gained.
