Maccagnan's Not Done Yet

Best Jet gm in my memory for legitimately trying to add depth, competition and fill holes before the draft.  I made a post about 3 days ago about ILB being incredibly thin behind the starters, 3 days later we have signed three guys who have played in the league.

I posted in the other board that maybe they're moving Damario Davis to OLB.  Whatchya think?

I was just thinking the same thing.  With as many ILB's we now have I'm wondering if Bowles

is going to switch players to different positions

There is no reason to hate this move, but I hope it doesn't mean anything for Davis.  These guys are not studs, they are fringe players.  I'm not sure what Bowles things at OLB, but I know he ran with Shaughnessy there instead of Acho, so I doubt he wants to give up size.  I think Shaughnessy is like 6'6" 285 and the S nickel thing really was to take the place of Dansby.  Who knows?

I think Erin Henderson could be, but not sure how much stock you put in a guy with his off-field issues.

This is the difference between Mac and his predecessors.

These guys are below average starters, but they are legitimate nflers.

In the past we weren't making these solid depth signings, then wait til someone got hurt and signed someone off the street.

True, our backups in the past were low cost UDFA types.  And we hoped that we would catch

lightning in a bottle like we did with Mike DeVito.  Unfortunately that rarely happened now we have

legitimate NFL players as backups

Eh.  Legitimate starter potential sure, but a stud?  Came in the league as an UDFA.  Out of football for a full year, he's never really started for a full season and I think that they really only kept him starting because they weren't happy with Bishop and some of the others.  He was always basically a minimum salary guy. Still nice depth/competition signing.

+1

The interesting thing is that all these guys are choosing to come here.  It may just be that the promise of open competition is getting them all in.

That bodes well for coples at least

Camp fodder is a little much since the guys he is adding have started in the NFL.

Don't argue with "fans" that love to be ignorant.  You're right, the players Maccagnan

is adding have all played in the league and most of them have starts under their belts.

That makes a huge difference if/when injuries hit and you need to go to your backups
