Mid to Late Round Gems.

Villain The Foe

Recommended Posts

Kenny Bell WR, Nebraska (Projected: 4th round) Mid round version of Amari Cooper. Great mixture of agility and explosiveness. Makes some off the wall catches and will climb up the ladder. Good route runner and a blocker in the run game. can Play both inside and out as well as Special Teams.

Justin Coleman CB, Tennessee (Projected 7th rd-FA) Late round version of Stephon Gilmore. Highly agile, very aggressive corner. Very smart. Can Play both Zone and press man and understands his assignment. Sure tackler. can tackle WR's in open space and RB's in the flat while taking on blocks. This guy looks like he will be a steal in the 7th/FA. Noticeable head tracking when ball is in the air.

I only provided their highlights, to see individual game tape we all know where to go. I didnt want to fill up the thread with alot of vids.

I will continue to provide new names of mid to late rounders that I that I belive could be gems.

??? I dont understand.

There is a guy I am planning to pick when I am up -- 3 picks from now.

Here is another guy I see as a really solid late round prospect -- Devante Davis, WR out of UNLV.  Big WR, 6'3" 220+, big catch radius, not great speed and a bit raw, but knows how to aggressively attack the ball and consistently win 50-50 balls in the air.  Injuries kept him out of the Sr Bowl and limited his production this past season which has him a bit under the radar.  Projected as a 6 or 7 rounder who can be a steal -- Alshon Jeffery type WR.

Like Alshon Jeffery?

You got my full Attention right now! lol.

Yeah, I agree. His numbers dont reflect much given Nebraska had to unexpectedly depend on a rookie QB, but when this kid gets the ball in his Hands ist pretty exciting.

I came aross him randomly on a Website that I frequent, I was instantly impressed. Wondered why I never heard of him. If the Jets didnt go WR early and decided to get this guy in the 4th as the Slot guy while learning behind Marshall and Decker to eventually Play outside I think that would be a solid move.

Maybe I phrased it wrong -- upside of an Alshon Jeffery.  He is that type of receiver - lacks great speed, but strong hands and consistently goes up wins contested balls.  If not for the injury in 2014, I think we would be hearing a lot more about him over the past few months.

Na, I understood. If the Person is a mid to late rounder than we're pretty much dealing with upside at this Point. Thats some upside though. Cant wait to see the pick. I already found my 3rd gem but like you I dont want to put it up because I will actually draft him in the 4th if he's still available.

What do you think of the following guys:

Dezmin Lewis, Central Arkansas

Darren Waller, Georgia Tech

DeAndre Smelter, Georgia Tech

I like both Smelter and Waller alot. They are in the Demaryious Thomas mold (you noticed I didn't say Stephen Hill, lol).  Both big, physical receivers with good speed for their size.

Lewis plays for a small school but displays a nice size/speed combo.  Any one of these guys could be a great understudy for Marshall.

I'll make sure to hit you back with my thoughts. About to eat dinner now. Want to make sure that I can sit down and really watch this.

The pick was Tre McBride, WR out of William & Mary.  Not sure he really fits in this thread as he has been generating a lot of buzz lately.  I love what the kid brings to the table, runs great routes, solid after the catch, looks like a complete recevier.  Obviously the step up in the level of competition will be huge, but he has experience as a KR & PR so he can still contribute immediately even if he needs time to adjust to the pro game.  ANd the stage was not too big for John Brown last year.

Lewis and Smelter look like solid guys. Im not a fan of what I seen from Waller. The guy is huge and can run pretty fast, but he doesnt look like a WR to me, a TE maybe? I dont really know what to make of him when thinking NFL and not Georgia tech Option. Also in that vid it seemed like he consistently got off the snap late during run plays. Not sure if that was on purpose.  Though Smelter's vid was a Highlight, I feel that with Georgia's style of offense you may have to do a Video like that to see what their WR's are capable of in the pass catching game.

I cant really comment on the D Thomas mold because I never seen any of his or Megatron's college games. I do believe that Georgia Tech as an organization has been riding that success for a few years now because outside of DT and Tron I dont know of any other GT wideout making noise in the league. I think with the type of WR's they look for in that program you can either end up being a Stephen Hill type or a Johnson/Megatron type in the league given how massive These guys are. So you have the potential for a big bust but most definitely a big boom if you're right. I mean look at Waller, dude looked like the biggest guy on the field not even excluding the lineman. lol. If he can do something in the league I'll be the first to say that I heard it from you.

I am intrigued by Waller but that doesn't mean I wouldn't take a more developed receiver who could play right away.  It is too bad we don't have a 5th or 6th round pick (maybe we can trade both our 7s and move up...) because he is the perfect developmental player, hell who knows maybe he even falls to the 7th or even goes UDFA.

Here's some you may have heard of, may not have.

WRs;

D. Lewis (C. Arkansas) - hardly a secret at this point

R. Hall (UCF) - think he'll end up having a better pro career than Perriman. Saw some V. Cruz swagger from him.

A. Goodley (USF) - natural at the position and probably a poor man's Crabtree before the injuries

CBs (some real gems)

T. Smith (Towson) - nice size and movement. Think he'll be starter.

B. McClain (Memphis) - was really impressed by him at the E-W shrine game. Probably a lifetime nickleback/slot corner.

C. Mager (texas state) - probably the most polished and game ready out of the group. Good looking cover corner.

T. Walker (Texas Southern) - at 6'2 he's been all the rave lately. Lots of visits. Haven't seen much of him, but a solid press guy.

RBs

Gus Johnson (SFA) - although he's 5'10 he plays like he's 5'8 and 215. Slams through the line with impressive force.

M. Jones (Florida) - think he's a victim of the depth this year, as i like him a lot as 3rd down back.

K. Hill (Sam Houston) - Haven't seen him ranked anywhere lol, but he flashed in a game i watched. Caught my attention.

T. Rawls (C. Michigan) - former Michigan recruit looks good.

One guy i'm 100% against, is Waller (sorry Jetblue, i saw your other thread). He looked atrocious and out of place in the e-w shrine game after being all the rave going into the week because of his measurables. No way he pans out.

I liked what I read about Waller and some clips I saw.  I think I thought he'd be gone by the 5th, while TinStar thought he was 7th-PFA IIRC.  The more I see the less I like.   He has the size and effort, but I don't think I like him much now.

I think highly of Tre. If Tre was drafted in the 2nd round that wouldnt have been a reach like a Perriman being drafted at the end of the 1st round. Its crazy that you stated Alshon Jeffery, becuase I didnt see that until you said it. He does have that style to him a bit.

The Alshon Jeffery reference was about the kid from UNLV -- Devante Davis.  Big kid, not great speed, strong hands and wins a lot of contested 50/50 balls by attacking and high pointing the ball in the air.

Hey I respect that; I know he is a developmental guy and based on what you are saying might be a UDFA we can still sign him with no risk.  I like Dezmin Lewis a lot.
