Locking Threads

Recommended Posts

I'm new here, yadda yadda yadda.

But was it really necessary to lock the Revis White House thread? If the thought process is to stop a thread with any potential of becoming 'offensive' why even have a message board? Conversations evolve, they are an organism. They can all become 'offensive'. Offensive gets quotation marks because faux outrage on the internet is a disgusting thing. Up there with soccer players who flop.

I sort of understand the No Politics rule (actually, not really), but locking that thread was throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

Again, I'm new. Whatever, JMO.

Teams visiting the WH isn't politics. It simply isn't, no matter how many times people want to repeat that it is. It was a thread about Revis more than anything and had it been allowed to live that is exactly what would have played out.

And a couple Obama or Boehner jokes is exactly what I'm talking about regarding faux outrage. So now a thread is locked before any boo hoo'ers even had a chance to be 'offended'. Um..congrats?

Sorry, I'll say it again, this is the very definition of throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Could have been a great thread.

The Brandon Marshall jersey # thread? OK sure. This one? Not so much. Again, JMO.

With over 3 million posts and comments these past 10 years, there are so many things we don't know. What we do know is that the no politics rule is probably the only thing we got right when we launched.  :)

We tried to let some of these go in the past, someone always starts a fight. These threads just never end well and then people have grudges during the football season for non football reasons. It is just easier to avoid it all together, that is what we do.  Thanks.

Alright, that's cool. Can you see my point about it not being a politics thread though? It's like assuming a thread about good football weather in December will become a thread about Global Warming. Yeah maybe, I guess, but no need to lock it.

I think there's a crazy story in there about a former player now playing for their biggest rival going to the WH with his old team for a WH Championship congrats. Has that happened before? How many times? Who was it? Which teams? Any other sports?

Just feel like a 'Hey guys, going to let this one go unless it starts going too OT' would have been just fine.

Forum says feedback, that's all I'm doing.

I totally understand what you are saying and please know that we do appreciate the feedback. I subscribe to this forum, I wish there were more posts\thoughts in here.

The Revis thread could have been fun potentially, definitely agree with that. But someone would ruin it. Someone always ruins it for the rest of the class. :)

Per your request we will try and let the Cheaters to the Whitehouse thread run a bit.  Please hurry.  LOL

So talking about the Rooney rule is a lockable offense now? It's actually a pretty huge issue, especially this time of year and it has everything to do with football.

News flash guys, there are 'politics' involved in all facets of life and that includes sports and it's next to.impossible to avoid entirely.

Please never use the term 'we're all adults here' because that's clearly not how you feel.

In the past month we have had porn posted on this site. Racial posts deleted and over we have had game days with over 4,000 posts. We don't have many rules but time and time again people have proven that some topics will go off the rails.

That cool, and I get it. I'm just saying, Rooney rule pretty much cannot be talked about I guess.

I actually didn't see the locked thread you were referring to. I looked for it but I couldn't find it.

I agree in theory that it should be something that can be discussed. But like I mentioned before, it usually works out a certain way unfortunately. Thanks.

Let it go.

Totally and completely unnecessary comment. Mods and bullies intersect sometimes I guess. Actually, are you freaking kidding me with this comment?

Max, you cool with this? This is the kind of stuff I'm not a fan of. This forum is here to discuss things, yes?

Thor has 20,771 posts. I have not agreed with a single one of them.
