Official Roster Prediction Thread - Always Updated

Fixed some stuff, added the practice squad. Trying to get down to 53 is going to be a pain in the ass for Bowles/Macc.

- Do we keep 3 or 4 backs? I don't see us carrying 4 backs around, so the final spot will be a fine battle between Stacy & Ridley.

- Do we keep a FB? Bohanon might be a goner.

- Is Cumberland a lock? Do we keep a blocker (Kellen Davis) instead?

- Who gets cut? Winters? Colon? Freeman?

- Does Taiwan Jones make it as the 3rd or 4th ILB?

We are not keeping a fullback. We have RB who can catch out of the backfield. I see us carrying 4RBs or an extra O Lineman.

Wes Saxton makes this team. Hes too talented and creates potential nightmares in the passing game.

Taiwan Jones makes the team. Its no surprise Bowles singled him out when talking about UDFA. Bowles likes this guy. Too good to leave on PS.

At least one veteran DLiineman makes the team. Either Vickerson, Douzable or Bowens.

Reilly makes the team for his ST play. Babin is odd man out, too one dimensional and old.

Agree nice work and the cuts will be difficult, amazing the difference a year makes, decent depth (except OT) in case of Injury (always hope for none but it's part of the game)

List looks good, agree on 7 WR and I think Taiwan Jones makes the team (was great at MSU), Cumby could be in trouble

They need to expand the PS to really be able to develop players - not sure Simms would qualify

Thanks guys, figured this would give everybody a clearer picture of what our roster looks like, and help identify who might make or not make the team.

- I'd have to agree with Cumberland, I think I'll edit him out. If we can get away with stashing Sudfeld on the practice squad maybe Kellen Davis makes the team instead, as a blocker. If Amaro gets hurt we can just dial up Sudfeld from the practice squad. Amaro & Sudfeld with no blocking TE on the roster is asking for too much I think. Especially with all the weapons we have at WR, we could easily get away with just one receiving TE. And one on othe practice squad. And you add in the fact that Bohanon doesn't make the team, we definitely need a blocker at TE.

- Part of me wants Freeman to make the team as the backup Center. He's been in the system for a couple years now, he looked great in his lone start last year replacing Mangold. But I read a blurb where Winters was lining up at Center during camp a couple weeks ago. So I guess these two will duke it out. I don't see Winters winning that battle. Then again, we can't stash him on the practice squad, Freeman however is eligible.

- Saxton ("hand picked") could have an advante over Sudfeld.

- Hoping either Pace or Babin don't make the team. Both signed a 1 year contract this offseason, both can't play special teams. Reilly probably has a better shot.

Didn't know if you noticed but you have a total of 54... NBD

**Owusu (better return and ST man) beats out Posey for a spot on the team despite

MacDaddy's love affair. (probably pushed hard for Posey being picked in 1st, can't handle his own failure. Must try to salvage only to fail

**Jets send  Rontez Miles (good ST player) to PS over Dashaun Phippips

**Saxon over Sudfield to PS. Zach's had 2 years to prove more than a JAG: 5 of 7 for 85 in 2014

Great Job at this junction of the year;  I have a few ideas thou.

On Offense:

Time to move on from Simms. Build him up as trade bait.

We should keep 4 OTs including Ijalana and Brewer.

Colon and Winters should not be a part of this team. Jarvis Harrison offers swing ability from OT to OG.

I would look to trade Kerley

I like the idea of 4 RBs and no true FB

On Defense:

We should have 4 Defensive Linemen that doesn't include Coples.

Either Pace or Babin should not be part of this team

Until proven different, Riley should be part of the OLBers

We should keep 6 OLber and 4 Inside with 1 player having the ability to swing inside out.

We Should keep 6 CBs and 4 safeties.

With the condition of McDougle and Milliner, I can understand keeping 7. If we keep 7, either Milliner or McDougle should start the yr on the PUP list.

This was much harder than I thought.

Good problem to have.  It'll be cool seeing the "surprise" guys ascend to the roster we wouldn't have expected to see.  And thanks for compiling all of this!

I would look to trade Kerley

I don't agree here.  We signed Kerley to an extension (granted, this was the old regime's doing) and let go of Harvin (current regime's decision).  The job as slot receiver is his to lose.  Who would we replace him with?  And what kind of compensation would we be able to get for Kerley?  A 2016 3rd rounder at best?  No thanks.

OK I can see your point.

What do you see if we put these 4 receivers on the field ?

Decker

Marshall

Kerley

Amaro

@Boozer

Thanks, I fixed it by kicking Bohanon off. I think if Posey is safe unless he really falls flat on his face (lots of drops etc.). He was brought in by Macc, we gave up something for him. It's a little harder to cut a guy like that than to cut somebody like Owusu who was here before the new regime arrived.

Agree on most points. But which CB do you cut? Marcus Williams is a lock. Darrin Walls? Dex has too much upside, I don't think he'd survive on the practice squad, some team would snatch him up. Agree on your next point, either Dee or Dex (possibly both) will start out on PUP. Don't know much about Brewer but Harrison I've heard has swing ability, he seems very athletic. As for Kerley, I have to disagree as well. He's completely different from our other top 3 wideouts, he's still young and he's got some of the best hands on the team, he's clutch. You can always get him the ball on 3rd down, he's like a poor mans Chrebet/Welker.

In the latter group, I see interceptions because there's no one underneath as the QB's safety blanket.  Devin Smith needs to sit and watch for a little while before being unleashed.  And there's no reason we can't mix and match our offensive packages.  Why would you want to take away an option for Chan Gailey?  That just limits the things we can do on offense.  Imagine what we'll be capable of with all 5 on the field at once?

Well here's what I see. In the group with Kerley I see 4 guys who all run basically the same routes. You have nobody in that group who will scare any CB or DC over the top. I see a QB trying to force the football into a crowded zone or to a solid receiver doing something that's not his strength.

In the Group without Kerley, I see a balanced WR group. Amaro runs the seam  up the middle, Smith takes the top off the defense and Marshall and Decker ruining a DC  best laid plans  crossing the middle of the defense or being covered man to man out on the hash marks.

The reason I would look to trade Kerley is not because I think he's a bad player.  I just happen to think that the Jets need to keep another WR who can take the top off the defense along with  Smith and IMO, only Graham or Owusu offer that element.  Owusu gives you the special teams benefit also. Furthermore, I think Decker can replace Kerley in the slot if need be and offer a more potent offensive element.

Personally I prefer a WR core of: (6)

Marshall

Decker

Smith

Owusu

Until proven otherwise

Evans  as the understudy to Decker

Enunwa as the understudy to Marshall

Practice Squad (10)

1. Matt Simms (QB)

2. Saalim Hakim (WR)

3. Zach Sudfeld (TE)

4. Chris Owusu (WR)

5. Dashaun Phillips (CB)

6. Wes Saxton (TE)

7. Julian Howsare (OLB)

8. Jordan Williams (DE)

9. Deion Barnes (DE)

10. Antonio Johnson (OT

Not a fan of Simms at all

Don't think that OT is worth developing

really like that Howsare pickup . Guy looks like he can play inside or outside and maybe even at DE in a 43 scheme. Did we really sign that kid to a 3 yr contract ?

I think the Jets need to find one of those mysterious injuries for  Devon Walls that put him on IR for the year early in camp.

Yeah, 3 years, 1.6 mil. like the other undrafted guys.

I think I'll add the cap numbers later today, probably makes it easier to decide who to keep/cut.

Also, the PUP thing was a really good nugget. I could definitely see Dee & Dex start out the season on PUP, gives us 2 more spots.

This is Miles 3rd year with the Jets are you sure he's still eligible for the PS??

He should be. He was active for only 1 game in his career.

Yep I guess he's good..

  • Players can be eligible for a third practice squad season if their team maintains no less than 53 players on the active/inactive list at all times.

If we cut anyone, we get no compensation. Only a UFA will get you compensatory draft picks. If a trade the best we could hope for would be a 6th rounder.
