NFL League Meeting Agenda

The NFL has their annual spring meeting this week, with owners from all 32 teams expected to attend. The meeting will take place in San Francisco from 5/18 through 5/20. There are several topics on the agenda and deflategate will certainly be one of them. If the NFL could stream this meeting on Pay Per View, they would give Floyd Mayweather a run for his money. There are many interesting story lines this year. Roger Goodell and Robert Kraft, Kraft and Woody Johnson after the Revis tampering charges is another one. Many fans are looking to buy NFL tickets to see the Patriots vs the Colts when Tom Brady returns from his suspension.

More importantly though, the owners will vote on three new proposals. NESN recaps the proposed rule changes:

One of these proposals, submitted by the Patriots, calls for the line of scrimmage to be moved from the 2-yard line to the 15-yard line on extra point field goal attempts, thus making them more difficult, at 33 yards. Teams still would take two-point conversion attempts from the 2-yard line under the rule. The other two proposals present variations of New England’s call to change the PAT. A proposal presented by the competition committee also would allow the defense to be awarded to points if it recovers the ball and scores a touchdown, while Philadelphia Eagles submitted a proposal calling for the ball to be placed on the 1-yard line instead of the 2 for two-point conversion attempts. All three proposals will require a vote from at least 24 of the 32 owners to pass.

A) I don't like the thought of moving the ball to the 1 yd. line to 2 pt. conversion attempts. It will ne the NFL equivalent to the NBA 3 pt,

shot.... just moving it in vs. moving it out

OR!!

B) As a Jet fan.... am I just afraid it will be just another thing that causes us to lose games?

Probably B. I'd love it watching other NFL games... a 4th and goal scenario after every TD!

But with our OL.... I just don't know. SOJF

Why don't they just leave the game alone? It's great the way it is.

The extra point is pretty much meaningless but unfortunately moving it back ruins surprise 2 point conversions.

And the game is nothing like it was it's been changed so much. Bring back the rules from the 70s and 80s.

They want to make the PAT a play worth watching again. Right now, it's basically time to get up, go to the bathroom, grab another beer, and make it back in front of the TV before the next kickoff. I can't remember the last time I saw a missed PAT.

Me? I'd award seven points for a TD, with the option to take one of those points off the board to go for two. Eliminate the kick completely. The NFL would never go for that, though. God forbid something changes that actually speeds the game along a little bit, eliminating a lucrative commercial break or two.

What's wrong with that ? :)

Ahhh...someone sees it. The real issue is that they do not want to lose the commercial break, but for some reason only known to them want to make the play more interesting. Dumb. Just not a rule that needs to be changed. Your proposal makes sense.

Just move all extra points to the 1. Its either a gimme extra 1 point, or a 50/50 chance for 2. I also love the idea of the defense beingable to return botched conversions for 2 points.

While the insanity is freely flowing, why on earth would you leave out the rouge as a scoring play?

Not really. They either need to make the extra point automatic, or give up the point n attempt for two. I don't see the point of kicking from the 2. I actually like the Pats* suggestion of PAT at the 15 or two pt at the 2. Or maybe even at the 1 yard line so we get to see more 2 point attempts n it makes that one play even more interesting. That or like I said, automatic 1 point.

How many surprise 2 points do we see a year? 1? 2? Maybe 3?

I agree completely. Although there wouldn't be any "eliminating a lucrative commercial break" with the automatic PAT or 2 Pt attempt. It just speeds up the process and saves maybe 5 plays a game (4 mins). Those 4 mins can go towards much needed official reviews of plays currently not eligible for reviewing (judgement calls completely missed or called in an error).

I'd pay for view that event, why does Kraft have so much power anyway. Will the other owners not grow a pair, and tell the old douche what the rest of us are thinking?

They're all old douche. At least Woody has the guts to stand up n say "Fcuk you!" To Kraft.

I agree. THAT'S the most interesting point made in these proposals.

I like this. But of the two options, would prefer the 1 yard line.

How many kickers miss 33 traders now a days? Not many

It's always been a gimme. Making extra points is nothing new.
