IK our hidden gem this year

Found these gifs of IK and thought I'd share them. He's a very natural pass rusher with great technique, awareness and explosion. He can rush off the edge, he can rush up the middle, outside rush, bullrush, speed, strength, he can really beat you either way. I think at the very least he will be a very productive pass rusher for us this year. The only question I have with him is if he can be a reliable linebacker, if he can play the run. I'm hoping he takes that step this year and did a lot of studying in the offseason. He's a bit short and stocky but he's a great football player, he reminds me a bit of a young Tamba Hali or Adalius Thomas. Whether he can reach his potential remains to be seen. Hopefully he gets a lot of work opposite Coples this season.

was he hurt last year or just buried on the depth chart? i barely heard his name all last season.

He barely played. He got some defensive snaps at the end of the season, the final 3 games I think. He made more plays as a situational guy vs the Titans than I can remember Pace make all year as a starter. It's a shame that Rex kept guys like IK on the bench, they didn't even make the active roster. Instead you have these olds clowns like Pace & Babin out there when we needed somebody to put heat on the QB.

IK also had 2 sacks, 2 forced fumbles and a safety in the preseason.

Damn that's a pretty good line for a small sample size. You're right, I'd love to see IK get more snaps this year. Now that Rex is gone, and Bowles having no alleigance to the former regime, we can see guys like him get more playing time.

I'm also interested to see if Shaq Evans makes a splash on the other side of the ball. He'd make a nice sleeper out of that cluster**** of a draft last season.

His body structure reminds me more of a taller James Harrison.  His lack of reps last year was

a huge indictment of Ryan and his staff.  Because every time he appeared on the field he made

himself known whether it was special teams or situational pass rush

What I love about the GIF's are that these are all either hustle or discipline plays. They're not even based on his physical talent. Once this kid gets an understanding of the professional game...

He'll be our pass rusher, Mauldin will replace Pace, Coples back on the line, Williams, Snacks, Richardson and Wilkerson as well.

Beast.

Yeah, Rex during a season would pretty much never go away from the veteran no matter how bad he is playing or how much the young player flashes

Pace has been a very good Jets LB for years. He is one of the better FA's the Jets have signed. He may be old now but I have a hard time thinking of him as a clown.

Thanks for posting this Ballhawk :)

I really think this kid showed a lot of flashes and has great potential hopefully we will see more of him this year. I don't think he will have any problem vs the run and with our Front he may not have too :) . I would love to see him develop into a full time Linebacker rather than just a situational pass rusher Hopefully Bowles can get him on track for some extended playing time Im not too keen on Coples or Pace so this kid turning it on would be a bright spot

I think Coples stays as an OLB although there may be times he lines up in a 3 point stance.  We could have a nice rotation of Coples, IK, Mauldin, Reilly.

Hes not a clown but hes the type of player who makes a play then disappears for a while . Most of his sacks don't come at critical times like 3rd down nor do his pressures. We need a guy who can make plays on thise downs since in the Rex defense we never seemed to get off the field on critical 3rd downs.

He's not just old, he's useless, he's a liability on the field. Just like Landry was. And Kyle Wilson. There's no way guys like that should be starting for any team in the NFL. Calling him a clown was a little harsh maybe but let's not get caught up with the emotional stuff. He has been a good player for us, the last couple of years however his play went downhill at a ridiculous pace and last season especially he was just awful. Good guy probably, hard worker I guess, but just not starting material. And when you have IK on the bench who could have done a lot more for this defense, made a lot more plays than Pace did, it just irritates me.

I can't wait to see what Bowles & Kacy do with IK, Coples & Mauldin. They'll be very creative with them I think. And then you have those 4 other big guys up front to play with as well, move them around, create mismatches. Should be fun.

I'm not very high on Pace and Babin, both old and slow. IK needs more reps, and to be worked into the starting line up.

Babin never looked slow to me last year and every time the guy was on the field he created some type of pressure. He's a high motor guy and Pace has NEVER been that. Sure Babin is old but the guy can still play from what I saw. Now he is a situational pass rusher and the Question becomes how many of those guys can you keep ? You would think the younger guys would get the nod but that all depends on how far along they have progressed.

Isn't Pace the LB that has one of the biggest sacks in the history of the NY Jets? He was on a very low salary last season and performed that way. IK should have recieved more playing time. It was the coaches decision to do otherwise.

to be a beast you need a relentless motor so when plays do extend your still on the QB Coples never had that motor in college and it translated into the NFL. Greatness is not just about potential talent .... squeezing those extra 4 or 5 sacks out of a season is something the great players do along with big sacks on 3rd down something the Jets defense has been pitiful at under the Ryan Defense. Hopefully Bowles more aggressive style will create more problems because after year 1 Ryan was not the blitz calling DC we thought he was.

I have to agree; his best days are behind him and even if he makes the team, which he probably will, if he does start, they need to rotate the younger guys in early and often.   Unless he somehow finds the fountain of youth, IK and or Mauldin should get those reps.

Yeah he's also the guy when Rothlesberger was running for the sidelines in the AFCCG forgot to put up his hands to, at the very least, misdirect the throw that ended our season on 3rd down. He's not a very instinctive player at all .... What sack might that be that Pace had ? The one against Brady ? I think Harris was in on that sack as well and its certainly not the biggest sack in Jets history I'm sure Klecko had a few of those.

I hear you on Babin.  All things being equal, I might keep Babin over Pace but he is probably more of a locker room presence and leader than Babin.   I just hope they will give the young guys a legit shot of not just making the team but winning a starting job.

Pace should have been on the veteran minimum based on his play last year. Under a mil. in salary and that's it. The same Colon is being paid. Instead he got a million dollar roster bonus and close to 1.5 mil. in salary on top of that. He was clearly overpaid. This year his salary jumps to 2.2 mil. It's time to cut him loose.

I still think Coples will excel under Bowles. He made several big plays last year and should only be better, his second full year at OLB.  When you consider our defensive line, who is going to be blocking Coples?  A TE or Running back?  Yeah I think he is going BEAST next season, relentless motor or not. He will win those match ups 90% of the time.

Really what week did we play the Colts last season?? Look at the other numbers do you see Mo or Sheldon??

It was the preseason. We played the Colts in PW1. The guy in that gif made a sack + forced fumble vs the Colts. The QB is #5. IK had a sack + forced fumble vs the Colts. QB #5 was Harnish. Ball was recovered at the 10 yd line, if you look at the GIF that's what you see.

(:57) (Shotgun) 5-C.Harnish sacked at IND 10 for -5 yards (51-I.Enemkpali). FUMBLES (51-I.Enemkpali), RECOVERED by NYJ-47G-A.Edds at IND 10. 47G-A.Edds to IND 10 for no gain (25O-P.Tanner).

Plus like Smash mentioned, the guy has huge thighs. Maybin was built like a CB.

I also have high hopes for IK but even the Ghost got a sack in the pre season.. Preseason also had the Rat to Clowney awhile back but getting a sack against future loading dock workers just don't do it for me.. :winking0001:

I think Coples becomes more of a rushing specialist in Bowles defense, which I think he is very underrated at, but I think he will line up all over the place and mot be restricted as an OLB or edge rusher.
