Hard Rock, Racetrack Propose Casino at Meadowlands

Id love if they did this. Maybe I could actually go sneak out and play poker every now and then.  NJ has missed out on so many opportunities by sticking with AC as their only casinos. AC has been dying for years and is shutting places down left and right. The flop of Revel should have proven that the location is just not right anymore for those that refused to admit that AC just isnt in a position to really draw people. I really think any type of casino in NNJ would be huge though the traffic around the Meadowlands would be ridiculous without some changes.

AC is near nothing. You think it's a pain in the ass to get there from the NYMA, imagine getting there from a city where driving isn't an option. What's the nearest airport, Philadelphia over an hour drive away? And then there's that other little thing, that it's a sh*thole. With Indian casinos around it isn't worth anyone's effort.

NNJ has public transportation, proximity to an int'l airport, proximity to NYC...they might as well shut down AC, and publicly acknowledge what everyone already knows: it was a stupid location from day 1 and those who "suggested" it in the first place have been dead a long time.

There is an airport in Atlantic City.

There will never be a pro sports franchise in Vegas.

they are building an arena for an NHL team as we speak.

Prospective NHL Las Vegas owner Bill Foley held a meet and greet with hockey fans (NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman attended and spoke at the event) earlier this week and while he didn’t reveal much, his confidence about getting a team remained high.

“The league has been supportive and positive with our efforts,” he said. “We feel like we're on the 1-yard line with this thing.”

Foley said the team’s colors will be black, gold and gray, which matches with the color scheme of the United States Military Academy, whose sports teams are known as the Black Knights, the Vegas billionaire’s initial favorite for the team's name.

Foley did say, however, there will be a “Name the Team” contest with season-ticket holders where the field will be narrowed down to 10 finalists. So for those of you who support "Las Vegas Aces" option, there's still hope.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman says he is pleased with the progress of the ticket drive in Las Vegas as the league moves closer to expanding.

...

Prospective NHL Las Vegas owner William Foley launched a ticket campaign in February to determine whether the city would be a viable place to house a franchise and says that the drive could reach the 11,000 buyer mark.

“I know there’s been a lot of speculation about it. What I’m hearing is the season-ticket drive has gone, and is going, extraordinarily well,” Bettman said, according to ESPN.com. "When we get to the board meeting in June, I will report to the board as to where things stand, based on the expressions of interest, and we'll figure out then what, if anything, we want to do."

NHL may vote on Las Vegas expansion in September

Atlantic City will become the new Camden if North Jersey gets a legit casino. It's already on life support thanks to Indian Casinos and cheap flights to Vegas.

Ain't happenin'

If the nhl owners don't stop it the other sport league owners will. The media conglomerates will also get involved. Why do you think Pete Rose gets blackballed for life while Adrian Peterson is eligible to play this year?

AC is a Zombie already.  Time to let it die.  Upstate New York, Connecticut, Jersey and Pennsylvania need to stop creating business models for their gaming industries that are predicated on not allowing a Casino in or near the New York City of Long Island.

I agree this childish nonsense about gambling needs to stop. I don't gamble but that's by choice people should have that choice.

Now that Tarkanian is dead, there never will be another one. :winking0001:

Lol you're right there was a pro sports team in Vegas the 1990 UNLV rebels managed by "The Fixer!"

The NHL is begging to get back on network tv and ESPN and they're going to do it by having a franchise in Vegas. Awesome strategy Disney can't wait for that

I agree. Everyone knows the NFL releases injury reports, and fines teams for not be honest about it, because the average fan just needs to know this kind of stuff.

Bill Foley, the billionaire behind the bid to bring the NHL to Las Vegas, says he now has more than 13,000 ticket commitments from interested locals, including corporate and suite seats. “To me, that’s a statement,” Foley said. “Our goal was 10,000, and we’re still selling tickets."

Foley's bid will never win universal approval, but it sure looks like he’s got the numbers to bring an expansion team to the desert.

“Las Vegas has done its job,” Foley said. “Now we’ve presented the information to the league. I’m very confident, but we have to wait for the league to respond.”

The NHL’s Board of Governors is scheduled to gather next month in Las Vegas around the league's annual awards ceremony, and the status of Foley's bid is expected to be one of the topics of discussion. But Foley, who has learned well from the aggressive missteps of would-be owners like Jim Balsillie, said he’s not looking to take part. “I stand at the disposal of the league,” Foley told the Las Vegas Sun. “I haven’t been invited. I doubt that I’ll attend. If I’m asked, I’ll go but I doubt I will be asked.”

Despite the success of the ticket drive, Foley has revised his estimate on a start date for the club, rumored to be nicknamed the Black Knights. “It’s got to be [the] ’17-18 [season] right now” he said. “We can’t get ready for ’16 in time.”

Gotta hand it to Foley. He’s played his cards right every step of the way. If you’re a betting man, you have to like his chances to land that expansion franchise.

Fantasy football is just a loophole to get around gambling. Instead of betting on games people bet on players but they can only whatever is in the league pot for 1st or 2nd place finish so technically it's not gambling.

Casinos destroy communities ... This is about the last thing secaucus and Hudson county needs

Crime, overpopulation and insane property taxes and cost of living already make life in se caucus and Hudson county great? NJ is the most bankrupt state in the country and residents are running away in drives this is one of the few things that would help.

Yeah but how many cities fly into it and how many flights compared to Newark?

You said the closest airport was in Philly. I was simply pointing out that you were wrong.

It has taken 10 years and reading every one of your posts 7 times, but I knew this day would come eventually.

Gotta love how a Meadowlands casino will 'destroy' AC.

Sorry, but a city full of casinos on the god damn beach should be immune to competition.

Could it maybe be, oh I don't know, that politicians in NJ are some of the most corrupt and disgusting people on planet Earth and would make a FIFA official blush?

Nah. Let's continue the narrative that competition from North Jersey is a bad thing.

Derp.

Most of AC's clientele come for the NY/North Jersey area. Put a real casino/resort in North Jersey they aren't making the 2 hour drive on the parkway to hang out at the Tropicana. How many casinos in AC are going under?

Some of  the Hockey playoff games have been on NBC and Vegas will get a franchise

Ac has been trying to reevent itself to a family type destination and emphasize shows- casinos is a losing proposition there- they need to consolidate more.

You're talking about the NBC Sports Cable Channel you have to pay for.

5 of possible 7 Stanley Cup finals games are on NBC (4). So there's that.

Plus the countless other games they aired during the course of the regular season and playoffs including game 7 this past Saturday between Blackhawks and Ducks. NBC and their family of networks have all aired NHL games including NBC Sports that you mentioned, but also CNBC and the USA Channel.

Do you always speak of things you know little about? 5 of possible 7 Stanley Cup finals games are on NBC (4).

Oh. - 5 Stanley cup games are being broadcast! What about the rest of the playoffs and regular season? Why do I need to spend half an hour scrolling cable TV guide menu to watch nhl playoff games to find a cable channel I specifically have to pay for?

Ok so your point is...

Is the new business model NOT to attract rich people from North Jersey and NYC? Sounds effective.

The point is that there's no excuse for ACs problems, not one. There's a sh*tload of casinos all over America that are in the sticks and they aren't closing down. ACs problem is corruption. Ever walk 3 blocks off the boardwalk? There's no reason that town should look like that. But it does because politicians are the lowest form of human beings.

Why don't you look it up yourself, because there were several, including Blackhawks and Ducks game 7 Saturday night. Plus they had a Saturday afternoon game once a week during the season.

As of February 2015, NBCSN is available to approximately 81,578,000 pay television households (70.1% of households with television) in the United States.

As of February 2015, ESPN is available to approximately 94,396,000 paid television households (81.1% of households with at least one television set) in the United States.

Such a huge difference. Acting like NBCSN is Spice Channel

The Indian Casinos that are in the sticks have proximity. Foxwoods is closer to Boston and Hartford than AC is to New York City. I used to live near the Emerald Queen in Washington State it's right off I-5 and 5 minutes from Tacoma and 30 minutes from Seattle.

AC is over a 2-hourdrive from manhattan without traffic and you have to pay those ridiculous tolls on the parkway that get worse every year. Property values all along the shore are suffering not just AC and it isn't just corruption - people don't want to live there. Artie Lange just slashed the asking price of his shore mansion in half to $1.9 mil and it has state of the art renos.

MLB for comparison aired 8 playoff games on network tv (FOX) and 7 of those were during the World Series. All the other games aired on TBS and Fox Sports 1.

As of February 2015, approximately 84,836,000 households (72.9% of those with television) receive Fox Sports 1
