The Bills struck quickly after the Jets released QB Matt Simms Thursday. Their waiver claim was awarded for the quarterback Friday.

The Bills currently have a three-man competition at the quarterback position, but it didn’t stop them from making an addition at the position Friday. Buffalo was awarded QB Matt Simms after putting a waiver claim for the recently released quarterback.

Simms, who was released by the New York Jets on Thursday, now joins a Bills team with the same head coach Simms had played under over the last three years in New York. Buffalo head coach Rex Ryan is very familiar with Simms’ abilities and even made use of the third-string signal caller in four regular season games while coaching in New York.

The 26-year old quarterback was undrafted out of Tennessee, but spent the last three years with the Jets. In his four career appearances Simms completed 19 of 39 pass attempts for 195 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

Simms even saw action against the Bills back in the 2013 season at Ralph Wilson Stadium when he was brought in to finish a 37-14 loss to Buffalo.

The Jets saw Simms as expendable after using a fourth-round pick to select Baylor QB Bryce Petty in the 2015 NFL draft.

Simms is one of two sons of former Giants quarterback Phil Simms who has played in the league. His older brother Chris played for five seasons in the NFL.

To make room for Simms on the roster Buffalo released QB Jeff Tuelicon-article-link.gif. A former undrafted rookie signing, Tuel spent the last two seasons with the Bills, spending the 2014 season on the practice squad.

Simms asked for his release?

I would bet anything Rex reached out to him and told him he'd give him a shot after seeing the hot pile of garbage he's been "stuck with" by his GM impending scapegoat.

Great move for Simms , if Rex can't fix him nobody can, this is the equivalent of a broken pitcher going to Dave Duncan .

what the heck does rex KNOW about the QB position... ALL The ones he's EVER had & Pumped Up SUCKED   :bag:

Loyal to the last, Rex bringing all his rubbish with him.

The good news is that Jeff Tuel (Buffalo Bills) was released. Jeff wasn't going anywhere with the team  and this now gives him an opportunity to move on.

Now he can be the third sting QB in Bufallo instead of with the Jets!

Smart.  Simms has had Gailey's play book for a while now.  He's going to give Rex some juice.

I wonder what shade/color horse Simms is for the Bills?

Like Rex needs to resort to stealing a play book to humiliate a simpleton like Chan Gailey…..please.

Alot of mixed emotions here in Buffalo about this move.  Some are happy to see Tuel released so he can move on and see if there's another opportunity.  Others can't understand the move.  Why Simms?  Some don't think he'll be here very long.

Rex really does not need a playbook.  He knows the inside of Geno's head.  He is usually tough on young QBs.  I still classify Geno as a young QB because he does not seem to have learned much.  It will be a testament to Gailey's coaching ability.
