Patriot Killa
I had to get it started. I'm hyped just to read the TC updates when they come in. So until they start to drop... What did you like from yesterday's camp and what didn't you like? Any stand outs? Predictions? I personally was happy to see Brain Qvuale at RG first team. Brandon sounded like he was a force. Decker sounded the same. Geno sounded to be good more than not. Cro got burned over and over. He made a few good plays to make up for it but it didn't exactly make up for it lol. #27TheDominator
I think it is way too early to make any judgment on how guys are playing. Sounded like Bowles is running a nice practice and the position coaches are attentive to detail. That is always good to hear and much as I liked Rex, it was something that seemed lacking. Winters started off at RG and that did not surprise me, though the press seemed to act like he was barely in the mix. They seem to like Qvale, but Qvale was playing 2nd team RT, so they may be grooming him for a swing/backup role. Same with Dozier having played C. They seem to be pushing versatility along the line. It will be interesting what we end up with.
Integrity28
I'm just going to put this out there... you want Cro as a corner not so much because he'll completely shut a guy down, he's going to lose some matchups, but because he can create turnovers. Turnovers have a direct impact on winning. The team that turns the ball over less, wins more. That's why the Patriots have been deflating footballs for years. Idiots argue about Brady being able to play with/without soft balls. Brady throwing the ball is the least relevant benefit of the deflated balls. It's got far more to do with every player on the Pats offense holding onto the ball. That's why the NFL wanted the phone, that's why the phone was destroyed... it was all to protect Bill, because I can guarantee you this was his mandate to help his offense turn the ball over less. I said this months ago. So... to bring it back to the topic of our Jets and the concerns people have about Cro, his presence in the secondary is about winning the turnover battle without cheating. I know he doesn't rack up INTs statistically, but he's got the ability to do so.
JETSfaninNE
The biggest excitement I noticed yesterday was the fact that the offense doesn't seem to be far behind the defense. This is leaps and bounds different fromt he start of training camp in previous years where the Defense usually would be very far ahead of the offense. ljr
Agree that who is playing at RG, whether it's with 1's, or 2's, & how they look is what I'm most excited to hear about ... Besides QB's of course. Past 6 years we'd literally watch the offense never get it together, then go into the season at the promise of "once the Jets offense doesn't have to play against Rex's defense every day, then they won't suck anymore". Yeah, that was the problem.

Might be an easy place to send a message. Anybody can win a spot. Nobody is going to be insulted because there is no incumbent - Colon is on the PUP list. The higher profile guys have not earned anything. Good spot to try out a coaches pet and support hard work. Or maybe he is just better than those other stiffs. flgreen
Jets training camp quarterback report: How did Geno Smith, Ryan Fitzpatrick look on Day 1? – / 35 Print Email Darryl Slater | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com By Darryl Slater | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com on July 31, 2015 at 7:30 AM, updated July 31, 2015 at 8:12 AM FLORHAM PARK — Perhaps lost in all the jaws dropping over defensive end Sheldon Richardson's latest foolish mistake (a street-racing/police-fleeing arrest that he stunningly hid from his employer) is the fact that Jets actually practiced Thursday. Yes, they did. It was the first training camp practice of the Todd Bowles Era, and Bowles is picking up right where Rex Ryan left off — with lots of uncertainty at quarterback. There isn't a true quarterback competition this summer, since Geno Smith is getting all the first-team work. (Or at least he did on Day 1.) But it's still worth tracking the daily ups and downs of Smith and Ryan Fitzpatrick throughout camp. So that's what we're going to do. Every day, we'll detail Smith's and Fitzpatrick's statistics, and make some observations about how they did. Take this stuff with a grain of salt, at least initially. It's silly to read too much into one practice, especially when players aren't even in pads. But over time during camp, trends do begin to develop. With that usual disclaimer in mind, here's a look at how Smith and Fitzpatrick did Thursday on Day 1: Geno Smith's stats: 12-of-20 passing (60 percent), one sack, one throwaway, three drops Ryan Fitzpatrick's stats: 10-of-15 passing (66.7 percent) Observations about Smith: He looked sharp, especially later in practice. During his final three turns in team periods, he combined to complete 8 of 12 passes. One of the incomplete passes was dropped by Jeremy Kerley, another by rookie receiver Devin Smith (on a short ball, rather than a deep ball, which is his specialty). Brandon Marshall accounted for the third drop, earlier in practice. Geno Smith had several highlights. In a receiver-cornerback drill, he uncorked a nice deep ball for Devin Smith that he caught in stride over Dashaun Phillips, a down-the-depth-chart reserve. Later, in 7-on-7 action, Smith lobbed a well-placed sideline pass over the outstretched hand of Rontez Miles, connecting with Marshall. In a team period, Smith hit Eric Decker for a good sideline throw, into tight coverage. One of Smith's only truly bad throws was a deep ball for Decker. But Buster Skrine was covering well on the play, during a team period. Observations about Fitzpatrick: Some of the starting defenders were in against Fitzpatrick, so it's not like he competed totally with and against backups Thursday. He also closed strong. In his final three turns, he combined to connect on 9 of 11 passes, including a 5-of-5 turn. One of his incomplete passes during this 9-of-11 stretch was a low sideline ball for Shaq Evans. Fitzpatrick looked good while rolling right and scrambling during a team period, showing no ill effects of the broken leg he sustained in December. Fitzpatrick's best throw was threaded over the middle, through coverage, into the hands of tight end Wes Saxton. It was one of the better plays, period, during 11-on-11 action Thursday. During a 7-on-7 period, Fitzpatrick hooked up with Evans for a deep ball, after Evans burned Antonio Cromartie. Overall impressions: A good day for both quarterbacks, but just one day with no pads on. Consistency has been an issue for Smith throughout his career. Let's see if he can string together a few really good practices early in camp before we proclaim him as having turned the corner. Darryl Slater may be reached at dslater@njadvancemedia.com. I know he doesn't rack up INTs statistically, but he's got the ability to do so. Eh. As you noted, he really does not get that many. Other than his big year in SD where he had 10, he only gets 3 a year. That is only one more than Walls had last season. Playing straight man generally does not net a CB many INTs. If you want INTs you play that annoying cover who or a zone where you face the QB and can get a jump on the ball. Most of the INTs should come from the safeties or LBs dropping into coverage. Our guys have sucked at that. No surprise considering what we have been trotting out there. Gilchrist seems to be the big hope right now.

LIJetsFan
I liked that WR coach (forgot his name) was very proactive with his charges. Putting them thru their paces with cone drills and being critical at route running is a marked difference for this unit. That combined with an upgrade in talent at the WR position is so encouraging. I love having the grown ups in charge.

Shadetree
I want to put this out there for sake of Camp-watching and CRO was brought up already.... -Cro makes me nervous. I feel he gets burnt by WRs way too often. Just my opinion but, because of this opinion, I'm secretly hoping McDougal comes on strong and takes over man-to-man duties at CB while Cro roams the backfield in Bowles schemes. -Milliner can go fly a kite. Anyone think this is a possible scenario??
