The Jets have spoken to Guard Evan Mathis

On if he will pursue G Evan Mathis…

We’ve had talks with Evan’s agent. They have a range with where they want to be. The other thing with a lot of teams at this point in time is you almost kind of want to see what you have first. Obviously, Evan is a good player but as this thing plays out a little bit, we’ll kind of get a better feel for that. Evan may have a value he’s looking for right now that may not be a value that some of the teams may eventually spend on him, but we’ll see how that develops.

On if Mathis can fit in the team’s salary cap…

Like every player, however cheap they can potentially come in at (joking). It’s like everything else. We have the ability to do that, but again you have to think of what the short term and the long term gains of that are, but we’ll see how that develops. I don’t think there’s anything pressing with that right now.

Seems like this guy priced himself out the market

He's just smartly biding his time until the mandatory number of fatty bodies start to drop from injuries during TC and teams will be clamoring to sign him AT HIS price. By 3rd week of preseason, some team WILL acquiesce to his contract demands; he's a proven pro-bowl veteran O-Lineman who can be VERY serviceable for a contending team needing to shore up its interior or for the bottom-dwellers who need to protect their young QBs and show their fans (Cleveland/Jax/Oak) the FO is willing to spend $$$ to win.

I posted this in the original Evan Mathis thread, for evidence of how good this guy is:

Last year, Mathis missed weeks 2-9 with an injury.  Without him in the lineup, Shady average 3.8 yards per carry.  With Mathis in the lineup, he averaged 4.6.  In 2013, with Mathis healthy the full season, McCoy averaged 5.1 yards per carry.

Sign this guy immediately.
