Geno Smith Punched by IK, out 6-10 weeks. All discussion here (MERGED)

Recommended Posts

It was stated that this was going on for a few weeks so during that span you have NO IDEA what might have been said and what might have built up in IK to get to this stage. Not to mention if someone is already mad and arguing with you, do you then stick you're finger in their face ?? Or as a professional, making millions of dollars, do you just pay back the debt to calm things down ? I would be willing to bet Geno (who we already know can be a dick) might have been saying some really stupid things for it to get to this stage.

There are 2 sides to every story and quite honestly we don't have the fine details on what was verbally exchanged for 2 weeks. That does not make what IK did Right or ok but Geno had the chance to diffuse this and it seems to me he chose the antagonistic road and probably pissed off IK leading up to the punch.

This falls into the "he brought it on himself" category. Geno failed to handle the situation like a stand-up guy.  Just one more example of Geno's punk-ass bitch persona.

truly nice guys that are leaders don't get punched in the face. There is no doubt in my mind Geno got hit because he was pushing buttons he should not have been pushing.

I am a proponent of sayings, since I believe that they are time tested and can be a valuable resource for life lessons. It seems at the moment that Geno owed IK $600.00 over a plane ticket that was never used by

Geno, and Geno told Ik he would pay him back.

Question #1- How long ago was the plane ticket paid for?

Question #2- Why didn't Geno pay IK back the money? What was taking so long?

I am a person who pays my bills immediately, and I hate borrowing money from anyone. If I do borrow money, I pay it back as soon as possible; that is just the way I am built.

I wonder if Geno intented on ever paying IK back. Ik was a guy who might not of made the team, but Geno certainly has much more money than IK.

Maybe I am focused on the wrong thing here, but I know that I hate owing people money and I hate people owing me money.

Just curious what others think?

I don't think anyone will disagree with you.  I don't think anyone isn't holding Geno accountable.  Its more about IK and the fact you don't escalate to what he did.  From other rumors IK is extremely tight on his money.  So Geno taking his time with paying back 600 bucks probably really pissed him off.  I don't think many will disagree that Geno is immature and lacks leadership skills.

Here is what we know about Geno since becoming a Jet.

1. Geno Smith squirms and flees Radio City when he slipped out of the 1st round showing mental weaknesses.

2. Missed a team meeting on the road, Team didn't hold him accountable, he didn't hold himself accountable and used stupid time excuses.

3. Couldn't handle the pressure of a heckling fan.  Shouted **** YOU to a Jet fan, says he's sorry and its part of his learning process.

4. Geno Smith got into a little jawing match with Titans defensive lineman Jurrell Casey. Apparently Casey didn’t like what he heard, because he gave the Jets quarterback a nice punch in the noggin.

5. Is asked about being ranked 32nd QB for 2nd straight year and he says he finds it "laughable".

6. Can't handle personal business outside of work and gets physically assaulted in the process.

7. Teammates don't go to bat for him.  Hold him accountable and partly to blame for damaging the teams possible success this season.

People have got on me in the past about calling out the maturity level of Geno.  But I'm sorry, look at that list above and tell me one successful QB in the NFL that has developed the same type of pattern from the start of their NFL careers.  There isn't any.  That because being a QB requires you to lead by example.   You can't lead if your actions result in your teammates not respecting you or how you conduct yourself on and off the field.

Goodbye Geno, I'm happy the Jets will move on from you after 3 years instead of holding the org hostage for another 2-3 yrs.

I think it is interesting to see an Owenite Socialist posting on a jets message board.

When you look at the other attendee's that Enemkpali had coming to the event - you could maybe get a better feeling of how he felt dis-respected by Smith.

Doesn't mean it's right to do what he did  - only to show Geno was the Big Gun at his event -

Ikemefuna “IK” Enemkpali, a NFL defensive end and Pflugerville High School alumnus, donated a $1,000 scholarship to a Pflugerville High School student on May 26.

PHS student Trenton Daeschner received the scholarship at a school assembly. But unlike Enemkpali, a second-year lineman for the New York Jets, Daeschner is the sports editor of the school newspaper. The Class of 2015 graduate plans to study journalism at the University of Texas and earn the sports journalism certification the college offers.

Daeschner said that it was cool meeting Enemkpali, especially since they went to the same high school.

Pflugerville High School alumnus Ikemefuna “IK” Enemkpali, now a NFL defensive end, is hosting a youth football camp July 11 at Pflugerville High School, with fellow NFL players.

“I love sports, so when I joined the newspaper staff, I found sports writing and discovered that I have a passion for it. I just ran with it, and it’s opened up many opportunities for me,” Daeschner said.

The essay for this year’s scholarship required students to identify something they wished they had known as a freshman. Enemkpali says he personally read every essay submitted and Daeschner’s stood out because it was on-topic and well put together.

This scholarship, in its first year, is funded through the DIAL-It (Dream It And Live It) youth football camp Enemkpali hosts each year. The camp for students in grades 5-8 costs $25 per person to attend. The next camp will take place Saturday, July 11 at Pflugerville High School, with registration beginning at 8 a.m. Proceeds from the camp will go toward the next scholarship.

The one-day camp features Enemkpali, along with NFL veterans Geno Smith, Dashaun Phillips, Greg Nwoko, Zaviar Gooden, Kerry Hyder and Justin Ellis, who will provide football instruction. This will be the second time Enemkpali has hosted the camp.

“I started this camp to give back to Pflugerville and to show these kids that they can accomplish anything. They just have to work hard for it,” Enemkpali said.

Enemkpali, whose parents were born in Nigeria, was selected by Jets in the sixth round of the 2014 NFL Draft, according to NFL.com. He said he feels good about going into his second year in the NFL, now that he has some experience in the business and is more familiar with football at the professional level.

During his time at Pflugerville High School, Enemkpali was named first team All-District 25-5A as well as third team all-Central Texas by the Austin American-Statesman. He played football at Louisiana Tech University.

His sister, Nneka, played collegiate basketball at UT and was recently drafted into the WNBA

Wait until they find out that this "My cousin was in the hospital" excuse of Geno's doesn't pan out. Geno has lost the locker room now, too.

...how did  IK not get paid back? Genos lack of leadership skills is laughable.

Yeah the mysterious family member or brothers friends roommate's cousin alibi is probably bs...

Matt, I have to thank you for your post.  I have had this mook on "ignore" for the longest time and realize I have really been missing the boat.  Compared to recent content around here, joewilly12 is an absolute brain surgeon.

**** Geno. He's a loser and a punk. The Jets should cut him - he has NO future here, or with any other NFL team. In fact, cut all of the Idzik drafted players, with the exception of McDougle, who is overrated on this message board, but still worth a roster spot. Idzik players are pure cancer, we need them off of the team ASAP!

A lot of hate for Geno but he was having a great camp. It would have been nice to see what he could have done with a full preseason. You know since the Jets coaches all feel like he is the best QB on the roster and all.

THANK YOU.  Finally some perspective; if the dude simply chilled he probably would have gotten his money later.  He made his point there was no need to go ballistic over freaking $600.   He not only may have ****ed the season, he ****ed his own career.  Yet folks are running around saying "Thaks IK!!".  Some real stupid MoFos on this board....

Its a matter of perspective and yours is delusional.  Ik was totally justified in popping Geno's jaw lose.  Geno has no class and brought this upon himself.  He failed to show up at Ik's camp and had Ik's driver waiting for TWO hours, he failed to call to cancel his appearance,  he failed to apologize for his no-show, he failed to rectify the situation, and then escalated it by putting his finger in the guy's face.  There is even talk that Geno commented about Ik's mother - the last straw.  Not very smart and totally classless.  He got what he deserved. And so has IK - a new chance with the Buffalo Bills and his old coach Rex, who in the very least knows defensive talent and didn't hesitate to sign him 24 hours after he 'ruined his career' as you say.  Who's the stupid Mofo now?

Iowa State DC on Geno Smith getting cold-cocked: 'Didn't surprise me'

AMES, Ia. – So Wally, are you surprised that a teammate cold-cocked New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith in the jaw?

Pause.

"Didn't surprise me," Iowa State's defensive coordinator Wally Burnham said after practice Wednesday.

Burnham knows all about run-ins with the former West Virginia star, whose jaw was broken by teammate IK Enemkpali during a locker room confrontation Tuesday reportedly over a $600 airplane ticket.

At halftime of the Iowa State-West Virginia game in 2012 at Jack Trice Stadium, Smith ran into Burnham as the teams headed toward their locker rooms.

"I was just walking," said Burnham, who was 71 in 2012. "He pushed me."

One of the first Cyclones on the scene was Wally's son, Shane, who coaches defensive tackles.

"We were holding for the West Virginia team to clear the field," Shane recalled Wednesday. "There was some extra-curricular activity after the last play of the half — Geno didn't appreciate something by somebody, and he took out his frustration on dad."

That didn't sit well with Shane, who did what every son would do.

"I reacted," Shane said. "Part of it is that it's your dad, and part of it is it's your Iowa State brother. It was family and football family for me. It was a double-whammy.

"He had some choice words for dad, and I might have had a few choice words in return."

Shane and Smith talked again on the field before the second half.

"We had a follow-up conversation," Shane said.

Was it nice?

"We continued the conversation," Shane said.

After the game, Cyclones linebacker Jake Knott tweeted:

"G. Smith trying to push over Coach W Burnham at half was the most classless thing I've seen. Esp. from a "leader" #GrowUp"

So after West Virginia won 31-24, did Smith apologize to Wally Burnham?

"You think so?" he responded.

This incident just highlights the fact he's not leader. Jay Cutler has 10x the arm talent Geno does but he'll always be a dope, you aren't going to win with a QB that it's clear from comments nobody in our own locker room should, or does respect. That's not even getting into what you're hearing from other players about it. I was saying yesterday and people where jumping on me for it that the idea of this being a sucker punch is stupid and the fact that not even his Oline tried to diffuse before it came to blows it is telling. It's hard to imagine that happening to any other QB in the league.

I watched the NFL Network and Willie did not praise IK.  He only said that if you put your finger in someones face be prepared to face the consequences but said that IK was wrong for ever putting his hands on Geno.  Stop giving false information please.

You must be deaf or didn't watch all the comments. McGinness clearly stated Ik was 'his kind of player', a player who 'knocks people down' and deserves a contract extension.   Stop giving false information please.
