@nyjets: We have signed TE Matt LaCosse and waived/injured DL Davon Walls-

Late today the Jets signed tight end Matt LaCosse and waived/injured defensive lineman Davon Walls.

LaCosse (6'6", 240) is a rookie free agent who first signed with the Giants on May 7. The Giants waived him on Aug. 1. He joins a Jets TEs room that includes fellow Illinois product Jeff Cumberland, Jace AmaroKellen Davis Steve Maneri Wes Saxtonicon-article-link.gif and Arthur Lynch in time for Saturday night's annual preseason game against the Giants at MetLife Stadium.

LaCosse played four seasons for Illinois. His best receiving season was his junior year in 2013 when he caught 20 passes for 237 yards and three touchdowns. As a senior he grabbed 14 passes for 117 yards and three more TDs, and for his Illini career he had 38 receptions for 397 yards (10.4 yards/catch) and those six TDs.

At his Illinois pro day, he turned in a 4.64-second 40-yard dash, which would have been good enough for the second-best time among tight ends if he had been invited to the NFL Combine and turned in that time there.

LaCosse was highlighted an April predraft article in the Chicago Sun-Times here.

Walls is the Brooklyn, NY, native who went to Syracuse and finished his career at Lincoln University in Missouri. He was signed by the Jets as an undrafted free agent on May 8.
