~ ~ Memo to Jets: Don't even think about Robert Griffin III ~ ~

-- It's far down on the list, but one of the downsides to not having an iron-clad quarterback situation is being linked to every high-profile quarterback that becomes available -- and even those with not-so-high profiles. You're familiar with the chatter: They should sign (insert name). Trade a draft pick for (insert name). The talking heads and the rabid fans think they have all the answers.Which brings us to Robert Griffin III, who went from the Washington Redskins' starter to an afterthought in the time it takes to spell "District of Columbia." There's already buzz on the radio and on fan sites about how the New York Jets should make a move for Griffin III.

RG III to the Jets ?

My response to that  : RU Kidding  ? It would be their worst personnel decision since they traded for some guy named Tim Tebow in 2012.

First of all, there is no trade market for him because of his contract, which includes a $16 million salary in 2016 that is guaranteed for injury. No team in its right mind would take on that contract, considering his durability issues.Redskins coach Jay Gruden, who benched the concussed Griffin on Monday in favor of Kirk Cousins, said the former face of the franchise isn't going anywhere. Don't bet on it. Considering the sharp turns in recent days, it wouldn't be a shock of RG III is released.

Even then it would be the wrong move for the Jets. Their quarterback situation is far from ideal, but they have two experienced options who already know the offense. They should ride QB Ryan Fitzpatrick for as far as his Harvard brain can take them, turning back to Geno Smith if it becomes necessary. And that's your 2015 season. When it's over, they should re-evaluate the situation, determining if young Bryce Petty can be part of the solution. Griffin could be a consideration at that point, but only then -- only if they're desperate and only if he re-works his contract.

Could you imagine the circus if the Jets signed RG III during the season? They've already experienced a punch to the jaw; this would be a kick in the stomach. This isn't a one-week fantasy league; this is the NFL. Griffin hasn't been a good quarterback since 2012, and he has enough baggage to fill the guest room at owner Woody Johnson's mansion. On Monday, coach Todd Bowles was asked if he has any interest in Griffin. Obviously, the league's tampering rules prohibited a substantial comment."He's on the Redskins and we have our guys right now," Bowles said. "That's not my concern."

If RG III becomes available, the Jets should do what he hasn't done very well the past couple of years  :

Pass.

~ ~   Jets, Texans and Cowboys among possible landing spots for Robert Griffin III if Redskins move on

It appears possible that the Washington Redskins will move on from Robert Griffin III, their would-be franchise quarterback and the NFL’s offensive rookie of the year in 2012.

It is, in some ways, a stunning possibility, given the king’s ransom of draft picks that the Redskins sent to the St. Louis Rams to move up in the NFL draft order and select Griffin second overall. But it shouldn’t be particularly shocking to anyone who has watched Griffin fail to recapture his rookie-year magic since then.A person familiar with the team’s planning said Sunday that the Redskins will allow Coach Jay Gruden to determine Griffin’s future with the organization. That person did not rule out the possibilities of Griffin being traded or released, saying only that it will be Gruden’s call. Griffin is said to have little to no trade value at this point, given his ongoing struggles during this preseason to remain in the lineup and be productive when he is on the field. He also has continued to be in the middle of controversies, whether that is deserved or not.

What if Griffin indeed is available to other teams at practically no cost? Are there any teams that actually make sense for him as possible landing spots ?

Here’s a quick look, in no particular order, at some prospective destinations :

   Jets: The team’s prospective franchise quarterback, Geno Smith, has failed to develop into that and now is sidelined by a broken jaw caused by a punch from former teammate IK Enemkpali. Quotes by unnamed members of the organization since that locker-room incident have raised questions about how Smith is regarded by his teammates. Ryan Fitzpatrick isn’t the long-term solution. Would the Jets push aside one failed young potential centerpiece quarterback for another  ?

Texans: Brian Hoyer probably isn’t the answer and Ryan Mallett didn’t handle losing the starting-quarterback derby particularly gracefully. Maybe, just maybe a return to Texas could bring out the best in Griffin.

Cowboys: Tony Romo won’t play forever and owner Jerry Jones has expressed his admiration for Griffin in the past, albeit when Griffin was at a far different point in his career.

Browns: Johnny Manziel managed to put himself back into the quarterback conversation in Cleveland but now is plagued by a sore elbow. Josh McCown is on his seventh NFL team. This is one of the very few places in which Griffin might represent a short-term upgrade rather than a potential long-term career reclamation project.

Bills: Buffalo already has a collection of less-than-overwhelming candidates for its starting-quarterback job in Matt Cassel, EJ Manuel and Tyrod Taylor. Would the Bills consider Griffin superior to any of them? Rex Ryan has never been adverse to seemingly strange moves, such as bringing in Enemkpali after the Jets cut him loose.

Rams: St. Louis used the draft choices it obtained from the Redskins in the 2012 trade to restock its roster. The Rams, at that point, were planning to build around Sam Bradford. Now he’s gone, having been traded to Philadelphia in the offseason for Nick Foles. Coach Jeff Fisher has been unafraid to publicly taunt the Redskins about the trade, as when he sent players acquired via the deal to midfield as captains prior to a game at FedEx Field last December. The only way to one-up that, it would seem, would be to have both Griffin and the players obtained by trading the pick.

Cardinals: Bruce Arians is a coach who actually might be able to make things work with Griffin. The Cardinals couldn’t cope with their succession of injuries to quarterbacks late last season, and now must rely on Carson Palmer to stay healthy. Griffin would be an insurance policy while he got up to speed.

Steelers: Pittsburgh signed Michael Vick to back up Ben Roethlisberger. Griffin’s star obviously has dimmed considerably. But isn’t he still a better option than Vick?

Patriots: Coach Bill Belichick once gave a look to Tim Tebow and never has been afraid to bring in players with damaged reputations.

Saints: Drew Brees says the end of his career is not in sight yet. But the Saints demonstrated that they are thinking about the future at quarterback by drafting Garrett Grayson this year. Would Coach Sean Payton believe that he eventually could get more out of Griffin?

Eagles: If this past offseason demonstrated anything, it’s that you cannot rule out anything with Chip Kelly. Get rid of Tebow for Griffin? Why not?

The guy is a dog -- not a worker.  And he is no longer fast.  No thanks.

He's completed 64 % of his throws in his career, 7.6 ypa, and has a strong arm.  If one were to somehow convince him to be a pure pocket passer,  he'd have value.  Definitely worth kicking the tires if he gets cut.  Especially since we're currently trying to decide whether to keep Matt Flynn or Josh Johnson as our backup.  Yikes.

Would create the circus-like atmosphere that we have recently shed.  Not a good sign that those who know him best want no part of him -- even with all that money invested in him.

is this anything like convincing Tebow to be a pocket passer? Or is this more like convincing Tebow to be a tight end?

Pass.  He's a glorified Geno at this point.

he's worse, 4 years in they still had him running a single read 1/2 the field offense heading into this training camp and he still lost his job.  Still cant progress through reads or read defenses...pass as well.

Not even close.  Tim Tebow's career completion percentage is pretty much an NFL worst ever, 47 %.  And he averaged 6.7 ypa.  In short, he never was a pro QB, even when he was "leading" the Broncos to a playoff victory.  RG3, meanwhile, is a starting-caliber passer who just can't stay healthy.

His current pricetag ($6.7M this year and $16.2M due next year) is absurd, but if he were paid, say, Brian Hoyer money (2-year deal, $5.2M cap hit per), he becomes a bargain.  And remember, he's only 25 years old.

All well and good but this is the same guy who couldn't even learn how to slide safely.  Think it's a stretch he can learn to be a pocket passer.

lmaoo he is better than Glennon ?

Cosell: Glennon 'far more advanced than RG3 playing NFL QB'

By Ryan Wilson | CBSSports.com

After a banner rookie season, RG3 now is not even in the same league as Mike Glennon. (USATSI)
In a season full of tough weeks, this last one has been among the toughest for Redskinssecond-year quarterback Robert Griffin III. It started Sunday with this inexplicable interception against the Eagles:

BOYKIN.gif

A throw Griffin would later explain what a consequence of his receivers not being able to get open.

(Funny story: Turns out, RG3 reportedly called the wrong pass protection on the play.)

And now, a year after Griffin led the Redskins to seven straight wins and a division title, there's already talk did the organization gave up way too much to draft him at April 2012 Design.

On Thursday, NFL Films' Greg Cosell, who probably watches more game film than anyone not employed by at NFL team, said that Buccaneers rookie Mike Glennon, who ReplacedJosh Freeman in Week 4, is already in his Farther Along development than Griffin.

"Mike Glennon is so far more advanced than RG3 playing NFL quarterback That it's not even close," Cosell Said during at appearance on 98.7 The Fan in Tampa Bay. "They Should not even be in the same discussion."

What Cosell lake on film matches up with Football Outsiders' advanced metrics. FO ranks 15th in Glennon totalValue among all quarterbacks; RG3 is 29th, just ahead of Matt Schauband Christian Ponder.

Interceptions in seven starts, Glennon has thrown for over 1,500 yards, with 11 touchdowns and just. 4 Griffin, meanwhile, has made 10 starts, thrown for 2,714 yards with 14 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He's so rushed for 345 yards on 66 Attempts (5.2 YPC).

"I think they (the Bucs) are getting really quality quarterback play from Mike Glennon, who is without question the best rookie quarterback in this class," Cosell continued. ... "When your quarterback makes difficult anticipation throws, everything about your offense Tends to look better."

And When your quarterback heaves to off-balance-arm punt into the end zone that's intercepted, the offense Tends to look noticeably worse.

well none . Cause we're assuming he will be cut then signed.

Yep.  RG3 will be calling to be cut pretty soon, you can count on that.  The Redskins aren't going to put him on the field at all this season with that injury clause.  Colt McCoy will operate ahead of him on the depth chart as the # 2 QB, relegating RG3 to lame duck status.

The only person in that organization willing to deal with a distraction like that is Dan Snyder, which is why he hasn't been cut already.

Quick someone start threads about every QB in the NFL and how Mike Glennon compares to each.  Include c*ck size.

Why do interneters immediately jump to homosexuality to show their displeasure?

Its gay, you know that right? lol. Besides, he made a comment and I responded. I didnt start anything or continue it afterward. Relax or create another thread for me to highjack, I mean for you to participate in :D
