Integrity28
Rich Cimini ESPN Staff Writer Jets LB David Harris is a quiet leader, but today he stepped out of character, scolding the defense for a lack of effort yesterday: "We had way too many guys not hustling on every play." Harris said it was "disgusting" to watch the tape, adding he was "surprised, shocked, worried." But he offered a guarantee: "Just trust me, it ain't gonna happen again." Strong words. Honestly, watching the game, he was hitting like a mack truck... while the rest of these guys were letting sh*tty Raiders depth players run through arm tackles. I hope the team makes good on the promise that it won't happen again.

KRL
Nice to see. From a player like Harris it has more weight because he rarely says anything. I expect to see our normal standard going forward
thshadow
Harris seemed like one of the few players to have a good game. I still can't believe this is the same player that looked so old and slow the past couple of years...

I still can't believe this is the same player that looked so old and slow the past couple of years... Well when you scheme a 250lb LB to be chasing RB's, TE's, and slot receivers around man to man he's gonna look slow. Harris was always a very good player, he just back to being used properly. BigRy56
He's not THAT good. He is has been really good for us. Hate on him, he's struggled in pass coverage at times, but he has been a cornerstone and leader on some of the best defenses in Jets history. Maxman
The two laziest guys on defense are Cro and Coples. Neither of them should see the field next week. Cro doesn't strike me as lazy so much as he does afraid of contact. Coples just seems bad. When I watch him play I can't tell what plays he takes off. Because, well, it is hard to tell lol. stoicsentry
It's all about accountability. Those guys aren't hustling out there and yet the head coach doesn't bench them. I'm sorry guys, this is all on Rex.

He's playing soft. Coples needs a hand in the dirt. Enough already.

BurnleyJet
The play of the D was embarrassing on Sunday. They need a fire lighting under their ass. I do expect a big reaction to this pathetic showing. I love D Harris, the guy got some greef because he's slow, but he's a really good Linebacker, and may well finish the Jets all time leading tackler. Klecko73isGod
He's not THAT good. Don't be dissin' Dr. Death David "the Hitman" Harris, Awesome Kick-Ass LB #52, a.k.a. "Pookie." Not on my watch.
Smashmouth
The two laziest guys on defense are Cro and Coples. Neither of them should see the field next week. Cro fakes injury to avoid making tackles on players coming right at him. Hes a freaking bum who gets beat underneath constantly and routinely gets beat on the double move. he can no longer make up for his poor technique with speed like he did early in his career. Ex-Rex
Nice to see. From a player like Harris it has more weight because he rarely says anything. I expect to see our normal standard going forward As a longtime Jets fan I find it difficult to believe that Sunday's effort wasn't "our normal standard" and that they occasionally step out of character just long enough for fans to start hoping......then.......thud. Integrity28
After Denver dismantled the Packers last night, and Carr carved up our defense... I think the thing that is haunting my Monday most is: Why the **** is the Jets defense not doing what the Denver defense is? You can't attribute it to Manning keeping his defense off the field all season, so they can pin their ears back with a lead. Manning has given the Broncose QB play similar to what we've gotten from Fitz. You can't attribute it to the Broncos spending gobs and gobs of money on their secondary, because we did too. I said it in the game thread... you don't spend this kind of money on a defense, and then hand it over to a rookie DC. This was the one move they made in retooling the staff that left me concerned. Having a rookie DC means you expose the team to a situation where he struggles. If he struggles, then the defensive-minded HC has to compensate, which takes him away from HIS learning curve as a HC. Thus making the team weaker at both the HC and DC spots. The things showing up on the field are coaching problems too. This defense has come out flat several times, almost average half of each game looking flat and entitled. The most gratuitous moments being the first half versus the Browns, the first half versus the Eagles, and now the whole game versus the Raiders. If this team is going to be identified by their defense, the identity is: we can be magnificent, if we feel like it that day. Our QB situation is going to get all the headlines, but this defense is a monumental disappointment right now. Aside from a few really aggressive quarters where they took over some of our early games, they've been pedestrian at best. No drive-ending sacks, minimal QB hurries, not disrupting plays, WRs are running free, blow coverages, missed tackles... and the turnovers are drying up too. I just don't understand how we can change the personnel in coaching and players and the results are always similar. Lifeless. The Jets NEVER seize the moment, and never take control of their own destiny. How could a team have "not stepping up" as such a fundamental part of their DNA when they are the same team that won SBIII?
Jet_Engine1
Because it's the players. The Dline is great..if its 1993. Who gives a **** about stopping the run nowadays. The Pats didn't even bother. Cro is Cro, he's the same guy that dodged Lamont Jordan in the hole back in 09. Coples is garbage. Pace is 55. Demario Davis is a total Jag. We got better at Corner, but its not 2008 anymore. Revis is still top echelon, but he can't be counted on to be the island anymore. And as usual, our safeties are underwhelming, especially in coverage. They have a lot of work left to do.

I hope the team makes good on the promise that it won't happen again. The game reminded me of the 2010-11 AFCCG against the Steelers. Total embarrassment for a team known for its D, specifically for its secondary and DL. Raiders ran all over our DL and passed at will against our secondary. It was just poor watching us miss tackles, and in some cases (first TD), shy away from tackles.
