MIA Observations

Thoughts

- Good to win and sweep MIA, but no celebrations or parades.  We live
another week in the playoff race

- Finally a game where all phases contributed to the win

- Good to see the coaching staff make radical changes defensively after
last week's debacle:
 * Coples cut
 * Richardson playing more DE & OLB
 * Mauldin with more reps
 * Henderson replacing Davis multiple times
 * Catapano getting reps at OLB
 * Reilly with more reps

- Somebody wake me up!!!  Did I see Kerley return a punt 50+ yards???

- Somebody wake me up!!!  Did I see Smith finally catch a TD???

Good

- Marshall treating Grimes like a child all day

- Decker

- Pryor is an example of why fans should'nt rush to call players "busts".
Because he is living up to his draft status this year.  He's an absolute
beast and set the tone early with that vicious hit on Matthews

- Ivory grinded it out and had that fantastic TD run to cap the game

- Fitzpatrick bounced back and played very well

- Williams with another INT, too bad he got hurt

- Excellent DLine run defense

- No turnovers

- Mauldin with excellent edge pressure and a fumble recovery

- Love the way Fitzpatrick used our "secondary" targets (Powell, Enunwa &
Smith) to close out the first half with a TD

Bad

- OLine was decent but way too many pre-snap penalties

- Too many "fantasy stats" given up by the defense at the end of the game

- Too many drops

- Punt coverage still needs to tighten up

- What were the refs looking at not to give Cromartie that INT???

I was really disappointed that we made no adjustments to stop Landry! They had a TD drive where I believe he made every f*cking play on 3rd down & then scored the TD. Piss poor defense! You'd never see the Patriots let one guy kill them like that. Don't know if it was Kacey calling the defense but even so Bowles has to say force someone else to beat you.

Other than that I have no complaints other than the referees AGAIN protecting their own by not overturning the sh*tty non interception call. That was a helluva pick by Cro & he deserved the call because it was the correct call to overturn it. Makes me hate this f*cking league sometimes! what's the f*cking point of replay honestly! just get rid of it!

He got bowling balled at the end of his run after he picked the ball off. I even made a comment to buddy watching "thank god his foot wasn't on the ground", I spoke too soon, he left the field & never returned. Hate those diving shoulder pad to knee kamakazi tackles.

Looks like Bowles went back to the drawing board on defense and it worked.  More Erin Henderson, less Davis.  Pryor is back to being a beast.  Sheldon is doing well at the DE/OLB hybrid.

Let's see if Skrine can stay healthy, so when Revis is back he can go back to blitzing more.

O-line still worries me, I am concerned about D'Brickashaw, he may not make it to next season the way he is going.  Giacomini also is a human penalty.

Yep. O-Line is definitely our weakest link now. Should be our priority in the draft. That and QB.

Thanks KRL. That pass for a TD to Smith opened up the running and passing lanes for the Jets in the second half. Enunwa had a good game too. That what the Jets have been waiting for. Smith to shine. Teams will not be able to stack the box nor double team or Bracket 15 and 87.

good game all around.

Reviewed the Sunday Ticket "compressed" replay of the game and a couple
of things really stood out:

- I don't know what happened to Davis, but in space he now moves like a
350 pound NT instead of a LB.  It's shocking to see how stiff he is when
trying to track down a ball carrier

- Catapano in one game showed more "want to" and desire going after the
QB than Coples did all year.  No matter how he was blocked he kept going
forward even to the point where he crawled on all fours on one occasion.
He may never turn out to be anything but at least he brought intensity
to his reps

- Mauldin may finally be the edge rusher we've been looking for since
Abraham.  What a pleasure to see an OLB in a Jet uniform bend off the
edge and explode to the QB

How did you guys not see the Williams injury? On his INT, as he got tackled he got nailed(lower leg injury)...he got hurt bad..just not sure if it was his knee, shin or foot/ankle.

That is the kind of hit that causes serious injuries, but I don't know why anyone would think he was hurt.  He was bopping around like J-Lo doing his little dance on the field.  No reason to think it was too serious.

Good observations.

The key difference between this game, and the games we've lost over the past month:

  • the defense played the whole game like they have been playing 4th quarters, therefore the offense wasn't playing "keep up" football from the beginning
  • special teams didn't set us back
  • the routine and bigtime pass plays that our WRs have been dropping the past month didn't result in drops, therefore we kept drives alive, our QB started trusting his tertiary targets instead of forcing the ball to one target, and it opened up running lanes and balanced the offense

Yes, yes, and yes.

It's starting to show up on the field... the tenacity that this roster has lacked for so long. That play to the whistle with controlled chaos energy and hunger that you just don't get from a pacified locker room full of guys who are constantly told that their failures are good enough.

To be fair, the run blocking hasn't been great lately.  A few big rips on Sunday, but largely ineffective again.

agreed

run blocking was bad vs. Miami.  Point of contact was often a yard or two behind the line of scrimmage

I watched the game from start to finish and I didn't see it either.

wow! One of those huh? Did Bowles comment  on how serious?

He got hurt on his interception return the guy tackling him hit him directly in the knee pushing it back like it was a slight hyperextension could not have been a serious one since he was dancing after the play but those do hurt like hell after a while. I had a similar injury and my patella tendon was sore for a while
