2016 Yankees Thread

I'm not usually a Cashman supporter, but basically he traded Warren for Castro, and some lower level prospects for Chapman.    Used Chapman for a half year, and traded him for Warren and 2 top 100 prospects.

So he got Castro and 2 top 100 prospects for a couple of lower prospects.  You never know who will or will not work out, but over all a good series of moves.

Blake Rutherford got thrown almost straight into a league where teams tend to send their college aged guys and is mashing (.392/.448/.667). 2014 Cubs picked turned 2015 Yankees signee, Isiah Gilliam, a switch hitting corner bat, has been mashing lately in the same league.

This system's slowly but surely getting it together with some bats.

There are rumors starting to circulate about the Yankees trading Miller to the Nats for Lucas Giolito. If it happens, the Yankees minor league system suddenly starts to look a lot nicer than it did at the beginning of the year. Giolito, Severino, Acevedo and James K would be a nice set of arms in the minors.

That would give them 6 top 100 prospects.   It would gut their bullpen, that would be shot, but it could give them an actual good young starter to possibly pair with Severino.

It would gut their bullpen, but you still have Bettances and they could pursue Chapman in the offseason.

Andrew Miller has been traded to the Cleveland Indians for four prospects, according to multiple reports.

The Yankees will reportedly recieve four prospects, including Clint Frazier and Justus Sheffield, and two pitching prospects.

Frazier, an outfielder, is a former first-round pick of the Indians in the 2013 draft. This season, between Double- and Triple-A, Frazier is hitting .273 with a .350 OBP and .461 SLG. He has 25 doubles, 15 home runs and 48 RBI in 94 games.

Sheffield, another first-round pick (2014), has a 3.59 ERA in advanced Single-A over 95 1/3 innings.

Miller has posted a 1.39 ERA and 0.772 WHIP over 45 1/3 innings for the Yankees this season. Over two seasons with New York, Miller had a 1.77 ERA and 0.822 WHIP, with 177 strikeouts, over 107 total innings.

Miller is under contract through 2018 at $9 million per season.

The rest of the Miller deal.  Supposedly these players are/were not in the Lucroy talks which I find hard to believe. A couple of power arms in Feyereisen and Heller.

Indians acquired LHP Andrew Miller from the Yankees in exchange for OF Clint Frazier, LHP Justus Sheffield and RHPs Ben Heller and J.P. Feyereisen.

It's a lot to give up, but Miller is arguably the best reliever in the game and the Indians are obviously going for it this season. The left-hander is making $9 million this season and under contract for the same amount in 2017 and 2018, as well.

The New York Yankees today announced they have acquired outfielder Clint Frazier, left-handed pitcher Justus Sheffield and right-handed pitchers Ben Heller and J.P. Feyereisen from the Cleveland Indians in exchange for left-handed pitcher Andrew Miller.

Frazier, 21, was drafted in the first round (fifth overall) by Cleveland in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft from Loganville High School in Loganville, Ga., after being named the Gatorade National Baseball Player of the Year. In midseason rankings this year, he was the consensus top prospect in the Indians organization, having been listed as baseball's 21st-best prospect by Baseball America, 24th-best prospect by MLB.com and 34th-best prospect by ESPN. He entered the season ranked 27th by MLB.com, 44th by Baseball America and 72nd by ESPN.

In 94 combined minor league games in 2016 at Double-A Akron (89G) and Triple-A Columbus (5G), the 6-foot, 1-inch, 190 lb. outfielder batted .273 (99-for-362) with 58R, 25 doubles, 2 triples, 13HR, 48RBI, 13SB, a .350 on-base percentage and an .811 OPS. He was named to the Eastern League Mid-Season All-Star Game and appeared in the 2016 Futures Game in San Diego, going 2-for-3 with a single, double and a run scored. On July 25, he was promoted to Triple-A.

A right-handed hitter and thrower, Frazier played for Single-A Lynchburg in 2015 and was named a Carolina League Postseason All-Star, posting a .285 (143-for-501) batting average with 88R, 36 doubles, 3 triples, 16HR, 72RBI, 68BB, 15SB, a .377 on-base percentage and a .842 OPS. He led the CL in hits, doubles and total bases (233), while ranking second in runs and third in RBI. He was also named both the Carolina League Player of the Month and Indians Minor League Player of the Month in July.

Over his four minor league seasons, Frazier owns a .278 (419-for-1,509) batting average with 248R, 90 doubles, 16 triples, 47HR, 198RBI, 43SB, a .360 on-base percentage and an .812 OPS in 391 games.

Sheffield, 20, was 7-5 with a 3.59 ERA (95.1IP, 91H, 38ER, 40BB, 93K, 6HR) in 19 starts for Single-A Lynchburg in 2016, having been named to this year's Carolina League Mid-Season All-Star Team. In midseason rankings, he was tabbed by Baseball America as the 69th-best prospect in baseball and the fifth-best prospect in the Indians organization. Prior to the season, Baseball America rated him with the "Best Slider" in the organization.

Born and raised in Tullahoma, Tenn., he was originally selected by Cleveland in the first round (31st overall) of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft. Like Frazier, he was also named the Gatorade National Player of the Year.

In 2015 with Single-A Lake County, Sheffield posted a 9-4 mark with a 3.31 ERA (127.2IP, 135H, 47ER, 38BB, 138K, 8HR) in 26 starts. His strikeouts ranked second in the Midwest League and he was named to the ML Mid-Season All-Star team. Over three minor league seasons, he owns a 19-10 record with a 3.55 ERA (243.2IP, 250H, 96ER, 87BB, 260K, 14HR) in 53 games (including 49 starts).

Heller, 24, is 3-2 with 12 saves in 13 chances and a 1.73 ERA (41.2IP, 23H, 8ER, 12BB, 48K, 2HR) in 43 relief appearances this season at Triple-A Columbus (28G) and Double-A Akron (15G), holding batters to a combined .159 batting average with a 0.84 WHIP. He began the season ranked by Baseball America as having the "Best Fastball" in the Indians organization.

The 6-foot, 3-inch, 205 lb., Wisconsin native was drafted by Cleveland in the 22nd round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.). In 150 games (including one start) over four minor league seasons, Heller has a 9-8 record with 31saves and a 2.77 ERA (172.1IP, 53ER, 69BB, 6HR), having allowed just 122H while recording 226K with a .193 opponents batting average.

Feyereisen, 23, was 4-3 with a 2.23 ERA and five saves (40.1IP, 30H, 10ER, 20BB, 56K, 3HR, .205 opp BA) in 33 relief appearances for Double-A Akron this season, and was named to the 2016 Eastern League Mid-Season All-Star team.

The Wisconsin native was originally drafted in the 16th round of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. At the time, he was the top Division III prospect as rated by Baseball America.

Over three minor league seasons, the 6-foot, 2-inch, 215lb. pitcher has an 8-4 record with 21 saves in 23 chances and a 1.80 ERA (105.0IP, 69H, 21ER, 37BB, 136K, 5HR), having allowed a .184 opponents batting average.

Miller, 31, was 6-1 with nine saves and a 1.39 ERA (45.1IP, 28H, 7ER, 7BB, 77K, 5HR) with the Yankees in 2016. Among Major League relievers this season, he is second in strikeouts (77), strikeouts per batter faced (.448K/1BF) and fourth in K/9.0IP ratio (15.29). In 2015, he was named the "Mariano Rivera AL Reliever of the Year" after going 3-2 with 36 saves (in 38 chances) and a 2.04 ERA (61.2IP, 33H, 14ER, 20BB, 100K) in 60 relief appearances. He posted an AL-best 14.59 K/9.0IP ratio, the second-best mark among Major League relievers, and ranked third among relief pitchers in strikeouts. The Gainesville, Fla., native was signed by the Yankees as a free agent to a four-year contract on December 5, 2014, extending through the 2018 season. In his Major League career, he has pitched for the Tigers (2007), Marlins (2008-10), Red Sox (2011-14), Orioles (2014) and Yankees (2015-16).

Sheffield is supposedly their best left handed pitching prospect since CC. Nice!

Cashman has had a nice week.  Has the chance to make the rebuild even better by moving Beltran.

I don't know what you get for Beltran.   Real good bat, but mainly a DH.

If he stays, the Yanks might want him back as a full time DH.   You could tender him, and get him on a 1 year deal, or receive a draft pick.

And if he can move Gardner and Nova as well then he gets an A++

Alot of talk going on that McCann could be headed back to the Braves as well.

You can start seeing the replenishing of the the Farm System. Hopefully Bird will be back next year to take Tex's spot, Judge takes Beltran's spot and Sanchez takes McCann's spot.

This is the fun part of seeing organizations grow- watching kids in the system mature and start to fill out the big squad.

Great job by Cashman

Cashman is killing it. Raw talent with a ways to go but still a big return for Beltran.

Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reports that the Rangers have acquired Carlos Beltran from the Yankees.

Rangers top pitching prospect Dillon Tate, the No. 4 overall pick from a year ago, is headed to New York. That's a massive return for a veteran outfielder like Beltran, but the 39-year-old gives the Rangers a versatile switch-hitting option for their corner outfield and DH spots. Beltran, an impending free agent, was batting .304/.344/.546 with 22 home runs and 64 RBI in 99 games this season for the Yankees.

Dillon Tate is 3-3 with a 5.12 in A ball and is 22 years old.  He did some relieving in college, so may or may not wind up a starter

Sure but taking a chance on the 2015 #4 pick for a 39 year old that they can resign next winter is a nice move. The majority of prospects are a gamble and this guys stock has fallen but still a nice return for Beltran.

I don't know him.  I hope he works out, I think Cashman is doing a very good job.  Maybe he isn't a starter and winds a good bullpen arm, a la Miller and Betances.

I can't even break balls today. The Yanks made out like bandits and totally rebuilt their future. Figure at least 2 or 3 of those guys are going to work out. Gonna be a slow few years in the Bronx, and I'm guessing half the fanbase will be freaking out when they're not competitive for the next few years because it's Yankee fans, but they played this perfectly and you have to give them an A+ for the day. Probably the biggest winners of the deadline this year. I can't believe after the Miller and Chapman trades he then went out and flipped Beltran for Tate. Crazy.

And how about Beltran getting traded at the deadline for a top prospect at the deadline again? Third time that's happened in his career.

As a fan, I have to hope some of these work out.

I don't mind a down year or 2.   You have to rebuild, and bring in some good talent once in a while.

Chapman returning would make sense, but if they do not trade McCann in the offseason the DH slot needs to be saved for him and Sanchez.

McCann isn't a good enough hitter to be a full time DH.  Start Beltran in RF and Refsnyder at 1st

The era of being able to build a team by throwing top dollars at free agents every year is done. You're either building through your farm or trading away top prospects in your farm for proven players. Either way you can't build a winning ballclub anymore with an outrageously thin farm system. For better or for worse, that's the era we're in right now. The Yanks fell behind quickly on that idea, but you have to give them credit for finally righting the ship.

I agree, but if he is on the roster next year  him and Gary Sanchez will split time between DH and catcher.  At least that is what I believe their plan will be.

If it wasn't for Steinbrenner being banned from baseball in the early 90's there would have never been a dynasty. At one point he wanted to trade Jeter, Mariano and Bernie before they proved themselves. Stick Michael was the architect of that team.  And they played harder and were more exciting to watch than the recent aging Yankee teams.

this youth over haul is long over due and I'm looking forward to watching them play the younger players, especially if the vets are not getting it done. Play the young guys.

That's one thing with the PEDs gone.   Players age normally.  Giving big money to a 28 or 29 year old just does not work.  You have to get youth, develope talent.
