Actually not its not and that's the problem with todays society Kids in general have no damn respect anymore. They feel like they are entitled and the world revolves around them. Its getting worse with every generation and IMO its disgraceful/. Its not sports writer Drivel its how kids should be brought up to grow up into men and women not over grown children who don't know any better

Gato its not so much about a role model thing.... that type of behavior has an effect on how people perceive him to be and when he loses he acts like a child. Of course after a loss your not supposed to be happy, everyone knows that, but act like a gentleman and you will gain more respect in the given situation than pouting and acting like a child. Cam Newton is an amazing talent but he's a child and he needs to grow up.

Assuming the media will respect him over some nonsense about losing the right way and meeting their momentary and arbitrary standards of conduct is just naive. No matter what happens he's carrion for vultures this year. If he talks to the press, then there writing nonsense about his fortitude on the big stage.

Hes going through a process no different from every other great QB that dare lose their first SB performance. The press will do what they do to pay their mortgage. As with every other QB ever that lost a SB, win one and people are back on the wagon. NFL fans and media aren't rocket science - they react to the result of the game. Cam's not changing any stories by spending 5 or 30 minutes on stage instead of 3.

Hey don't get me to sticking up for the press because they are disgusting and way lower a form of life than Cam will EVER be for pouting. I'm just observing Cam and making a comment on his actions . Its sad that these guys have to deal with the Idiot media but the great ones learn to deal with that aspect of the game as well. In defense of Cam if he has to deal with any crap for losing a game after an epic type season, then to hell with the media and reporters Cam should also get the respect he deserves so yes it goes both ways :)

Sure, if he didn't have to he probably wouldn't have talked to the press at all. This whole mentality and notion that athletes have to explain and walk through and face a proverbial music in the name of being an ideal role model is a new one that is maybe headed out the door as quickly as it came. He had a bad game and it happened to be the championship one, there's only so ,cut that needs to be said to the press about it five minutes after the fact.

except that he's making a awful lot of money and the fans, that ultimately pay his salary, want to hear what he has to say

It's part of the job.

And if you're gonna run your mouth before the game - you should take the heat after a loss..

I understand everything you are saying.

When every NFL player signs the contract, they know they have to speak to the press after games.  It is a requirement of the league.

The guy needed to man-up and he didn't.  I was unsure of his character after his post play antics on the field.

This confirms he's immature and needs to grow up.

If he won the game he'd be up there laughing and scratching.

It works both ways.  He needs to even out his temperament and realize a lot of people are watching.

That tape is forever and will haunt him for a long time.

I'll tell you who is definitely a man, Ron Rivera.  Guy was gracious and direct during the annual "outside the losing locker room" interview.  Respect, yo.

If that was Brady, he would have been smart for avoiding injury.

Hate Brady as much as the next guy, but Brady falls on that ball. I'm talking more after the game, cam was a sore immature loser.

A measure of someone is how they handle adversity-

Good thing he's probably got another decade of football in him...That said, a guy who won the MVP at the toughest position in the NFL a year after breaking two bones in his lower back has probably demonstrated some ability to handle diversity.

Physical adversity is different from mental adversity

Cam has had an incredible year and the future looks bright for him. What he did this year with little to no talent on his offense past Olsen was awesome. I wish he was on the Jets.

With that said - this should be a lesson to him that if he wants to clown other teams and dab all over the place then he better stay winning... because when he embarrasses himself the way he did last night, all that dabbing will come back to haunt him. He's the clown now.
