Jets Hire New Assistant Coaches

The New York Jets announced today that they have hired\promoted some assistant coaches.

We have promoted John Scott Jr. to asst. DL coach, hired Tim Atkins as def. QC coach & hired David Diaz-Infante as asst. OL coach.

Scott came to Bowles’ staff last year and entered the NFL for the first time after serving as a college coach for the past 12 seasons. Among the schools he coached defensive line or outside LBs with were Louisiana–Lafayette — where he earned his master’s in education — and his most recent stop at Texas Tech. He played four seasons at DE at Western Carolina and two seasons for the Greensboro Prowlers in arenafootball2.

Diaz-Infante comes to the Jets after a stint in 2013-14 as an offensive assistant with the Arizona Cardinals, where he worked with Bowles. He had a long career as a guard/center in the NFL (Chargers, 1987, Broncos, 1996-98 and ’01, Eagles, 1999), WLAF (Frankfurt, 1991-92), CFL (Sacramento, 1993-94), and XFL (Las Vegas, 2001), earning two Super Bowl rings with the Broncos.

Following his playing days, he was a TV studio analyst with FSN Rocky Mountain in 2003-04 before joining ESPN in 2004 as a college and high school football analyst. He also served as an analyst for the Broncos radio network from 2005-08.

Atkins comes to the Jets from the Bills, where he was a football operations assistant since 2011. He also had a stop as a staff assistant and defensive assistant with the Dolphins in 2006-07, another as a defensive graduate assistant with Florida Atlantic University, and the 2010 season in defensive quality control with the United Football League.
