I have no opinion on Lee.

Seems like a reach, small, not terribly strong, pass rush specialist possibly too small to do it in the NFL.

But since I have some measure of faith in Bowles and Macc, I just can't rise to oppose the pick tonight.

Guess we'll see.  Given last years draft class was pretty meh, they need to hit on a few picks this year AND get something more substantial from their picks from last year to boot.

Still expect a QB in the midrounds.

He was projected to go top 15-20 in many mocks and in others 20-25 so I don't see how he is a reach.  The guy is a football player and is not a pass rush specialist; he 3 down linebacker that plays sideline to sideline.  Something we have not had in years.  Did mention he is also the fastest linebacker in the draft?

i feel like a young boy on xmas morning with an xbox 360 and ps5, opening my present only to discover i was bought a sega genesis system with a mike ditka power football cartrige

I would have settled for a PS2 version of backyard Football with Spence kicking ass all over the field.

Guys are acting like this is the Jeff Lagemen pick all over again (Lagemen turned out to be a pretty darn good player after all). This guy was in 20ish range of most "experts" boards. Meanwhile, Jack, who every Monday Morning Poster would have LOVED, is still available.

Perhaps these GMs know a little more than the posters on this board. If all the experts were screaming that he was a reach, then MAYBE I'd understand but Lee was not a reach.

You entirely missed the point... We have been getting SHREDDED by the likes of Gronk and slot receivers for years.  We finally get a guy who can cover those types of players and you complain because we didn't take a project quarterback, smdh.   The draft has a few more rounds to go so why not just give the FO a chance?  Team just got better today.

No matter who we drafted half of this board was going to complain and act like the sky was falling just like every other year. I would have liked Lynch but I like this pick also.

I have a feeling Mauldin and Lee are going to be staples at LB for the Jets for years, and end up fan favorites when all is said and done.

everyone here sh*t themselves over the mauldin pick, but i loved it... everyone is stupid hahahahahahahhahahahaahaaaaaa

He's going to be used like a Bobby Wagner/Deone Buccanon. Will be MUCH more than a pass rushing specialist in the NFL.

Hence my "no opinion".  What he seems at first glance (too small, weak, inflated by who he played with) may not fully reflect his true NFL-level potential.

So I'll wait, and believe it when I see it, believe it when he makes a vital stop for no gain on a 1st down vs.an NFL RB, for example.

This isn't objection, it's a relaxed "show me".

Neither would drafting Lynch as he would probably ride the pine for a year or two assuming he can beat Petty.

True.  But watching the sh*t show in 2016, we would at least have him to look forward to in 2017 and beyond.  People keep talking up Petty.  Petty was a 4th rounder that has underwhelmed thus far.

Guess what...the Jets window on breaking in a young QB is quickly closing.  We have Marshall and Forte for MAYBE 2 seasons.  So we have 7 #1 picks currently on our defense to go along with one of the worst OLs and QBs (if not the worst) in the NFL.

The difference between Jack and Lee are very similar as players; Jack has the bigger upside but Lee's ceiling is pretty high.  Jets got a player with similar skill set without the injury gamble.

Walterfootball hates the Jets.

New York Jets: Darron Lee, LB, Ohio State A Grade
The Jets picked Leonard Williams last year, proving that they'll draft the best player available, even if they don't have a need at the position. This year, the Jets have selected perhaps the best player available - and one who actually fills a need. The Jets have had a hole at inside linebacker for a very long time. Darron Lee, who could've gone as high as No. 14, figures to change that. Lee is very athletic and has a ton of upside. He projects as a great fit in Todd Bowles' defense.

They gave the Jets 1st round an "A" grade with the Lee pick.

Everyone thought Sheldon Richardson was a wasted pick, too.

Mel Kiper didn't like the Darron Lee pick, therefore no one else does.
