Sarge4Tide
What grade do you give the Jets for taking Penn State QB Christian Hackenberg with the 51st pick in the NFL draft?

BallinPB
I think it's a good second round pick. Not spectacular but if the upside is there then its worth the risk.

BigRy56
B - I imagine they probably could have gotten him in the third.. but I respect Mac taking a shot on "his guy" that he apparently loved throughout this entire process
Larz
I didn't like a single QB in this years crop, I had targeted Brissett in the 3rd, but I can understand taking a guy with the tools and hoping you can coach him up. C+

Popular Post Joejet
I am going on record as saying that I believe Hackenberg will be either the best or 2nd best QB from this draft! Very excited about the pick.
Popular Post Jetster
Love taking a guy that had great success under extremely difficult situation. With "good" coaching he was considered to be a high 1st round pick. With everything around him conspiring to ruin him he had a lot of controversy he falls from grace. Surround people like this with talent & good coaching & you have a rebirth. I am pumped!

predator_05
He is a project. 2nd round was a reach, could have waited another round? I would have rather taken Alexander. C+
RutgersJetFan
I would have been OK with it. But now that the juju of Yoenis Cespedes' grand slam is going to transfer over via osmosis into his career, it's a can't miss pick.
Warfish
First impression is an F. Mostly disappointing, downward trending QB who lost his sh*t after his QB Coach left, failed mostly after that, and is a project at best, a complete non-entity at worst. With Cook on the Board, and Hack likely available at the same spot in the next round, it's hard to see the logic of this pick. But clearly Macc was obsessed with Hack to make this selection now, and must believe Hack is our Franchise QB.

jetfan39
don't follow college football so I can't comment on his ability, but from all indications he is a project. Do we really need two projects at the same time?

Tyrod Taylor had success last year? TYROD TAYLOR! You take talent + drive (key ingredient), and in a league where everything is designed to make QBs successful just a little success & confidence can put you over the top. Jets have 3 young guys now competing in Geno, Petty, Hack. I like it.

SR24
I don't mind Hack. Im not a fan of the 2nd round selection with Alexander on the board. Cook is still there through the first 10 in the 3rd Hack would be right there with him. But if Mac believes in Hack then let's get on this roller coaster

NJ
The upside on this kid made it a "gotta take a shot" pick. To have a potential franchise QB (when you have no semblance of one as you are picking) from a 2ND rounder is a lot less of a gamble when you consider the 1,2, & 3's we have absolutely pissed away since 2010
peebag
Too many other holes on this team to reach for a project who mostly won't see the field in 2-3 years. F.

Integrity28
Quote Here's a few of Gruden's primary points on Hackenberg: "The biggest surprise to me on Hackenberg is that no one is really talking about him in the first round. This was the No. 1 prospect in the nation a few years ago and someone who showed during his freshman year he could produce at a high level in a true NFL-style offense. What he showed during that first year at Penn State — before the coaching change, before the system change, before all the things that derailed him — would be enough for me to take this guy early. This man can run a 4.7-second 40, he is tough as hell and he works relentlessly. He just has to get in the right system with the right people and refocus on the small details." "I like to see how prospects perform when I send them to the board to diagram plays and talk through their offenses. This was going to be especially challenging for Hackenberg because I was asking him to decipher two systems, one of them from multiple years ago, all while our cameras were rolling and I was pushing him. It's not easy. Hackenberg was on the board talking about H2 X Deep Over with Coach O'Brien, and then he was discussing a jet sweep play-action pass he ran for Coach James Franklin. He was able to talk pass protection, route distribution, progressions, pick-a-sides, you name it. He had great recall of every play he took at Penn State. That says a lot."

BklynJetsFan85
As lf right now i give it a C, but it has B-B+ potential. I had him as 3rd round value. Chan Gailey is supposedly the QB whisperer so im hoping he can unlock all that upside talent and maximize it. I think they should cut geno smith, sign fitz to a 1 yr deal and groom hackenberg... see how that works out. People need to take into account the HORRIFIC offensive line and terrible protection he received combined with VERY AVERAGE receiving talent. He's got good size, he's tough (i dunno if you seen how many hard hits he took last couple season, and never missed a game), and he has a good arm. I'm curious to see what he can do with consistent good protection and very good receiving talent around him.
