Cutting Dexter McDougle, eh, and keeping Milliner?  Interesting.

other than  a roster spot for someone who actually stays on the field, not the IR

Don't worry, he'll get injured. Then so will McDougal. Then we'll sign someone who gets cut near the end of preseason.

Unless they get at least a few players, like 2 or 3? maybe even 4? This team is going to suck. Mac sucked a fat one in this draft and did not fill all of the holes this team has. Not to mention who he did draft sucked also. I don't think I am going out on any sort of extreme limb when I say this team will be lucky to win 6 games. This team sucks against real live stiff competition to begin with. But with this f*cked up draft? They are clearly going backwards from last season. 6-10 is a very optimistic prediction.

The fact that this started off with Ryan Fitzpatrick made me shake my head.

However, the fact that the most experienced QB, who is also the best QB currently on the roster has been cut while Bryce Petty has been placed at #2 made this an absolute fail.

Geno has been confirmed as the starter at this point, meanwhile nothing has been confirmed about Bryce Petty, and the only time this front office even addresses Bryce Petty is when someone asks a question regarding Petty. I dont think I've ever seen a guy piss off a fanbase like this...to the point where people would actually consider cutting the better player while at the same time moving a worse player up the peaking order based purely on emotion, because its obvious Petty didnt deserve the promotion or he would have gotten it already.

If they bring Fitz back, which they  seem to want to do, and you have Hackenberg has the next in line, I don't know how they can keep Geno who will be gone after this season anyway.  Under that scenario, even if they don't like Petty, they would probably bring in a different vet to be the back up.

Now, if Fitz doesn't come back, Geno is the starter and we go from there

I'm no Geno hater by any means but it seems unlikely both Fitz and Geno will be on the team next season

My 8 year old just told me we are going to be awesome. I am pretty sure my 8 year old has watched more football than this kid.

Zac Stacy was traded for last season and is still on the roster. He's in play likely.

Yeah, that's why I was stating that. I am 99 percent sure we take 4 running backs into the season. Now, that doesn't mean we will have 4 active on gameday, but we will have four on the roster.

No way the Jets go into the season with Petty, or Hackenberg as the backup Qb.   If it isn't Geno Smith, than it will be another veteran Qb.    Hackenberg as second round pick would be third Qb.     Petty would be cut, Put on the practice squad , or find his way on IR. ( mysterious injury)

WTF are you talking about you dope? There's NO way they are cutting Bryce Petty before they can see what he can do on the field. NO way. Either Geno is the starter this season or after the Jets resign Fitz Geno Smith gets cut outright. In either scenario Bryce Petty is the 2nd string QB. In either scenario, Hack is the 3rd string developmental QB. There's NO way the Jets are cutting Petty or Hack this season. NO way.

Wait, so either Geno Smith is the starter for the Jets or he's cut. Let me say that again....he's either the STARTER, or he's CUT, simply because no one has seen what Bryce can do on the field? What type of nonsense is this? They see him in practice everyday.

Think about this question im about to lay in front of you. What happens if the Jets sign Fitz and cut Geno (a QB that they would have allowed to start over Petty) and Fitz gets injured for the season? Why cut a guy who you are more comfortable with starting RIGHT NOW over Petty...a QB that has done nothing to even be considered a #2 QB let alone a starter?

This is called "hate", and 99% of the time hate never makes any sense....hence the above statement.

Good stuff. Some thoughts (not quibbling).

I bet Smith is at least IR designated for return if not IR all year and they carry another WR - Thompkins or the top UDFA. Would say they carry 5 but they use them so much could extend it. Maybe Jalin Marshall pushes for a roster spot as a punt return guy although I have no idea who returns kicks - that's basically a straight up speed thing.

Wonder if there's a point to carrying 3 TE's if they're not really going to use them. Saxton bumped up off the PS a little last year too right? Bet he and Sudfeld could push Bostick, could come down to specials. Obviously they don't care at all about the position as they completely ignored it. Couple draftable guys were UDFA's, figure with how weak that position is they could have at least gotten a quality guy there.

If they're able to re-sign Fitz and can't trade Geno for a bag of chips, I wonder if they try to find some kind of a medical issue with Petty and just IR stash him.

My dude Ben Ijalana never has gotten on the field but I bet he makes it tough for the team to cut him. Bet Macc would love to see enough from Qvale to cut Breno and then Ijalana could make himself worth keeping.

The battle for the backup OLB spots are going to be interesting. I'd be surprised to see Reilly get cut. He's gotten play time, that experience should have value on a really really young OLB group and I've always thought he was pretty solid.

McDougle getting cut would be a minor surprise but it's going to be a numbers game at that position. Wonder if they try to trade Milliner away for a conditional late round pick - probably doesn't open up enough cap space to justify it.

Okoye feels like a probable practice squad project if he has any eligibility.

Madness if you ask me.

Agreed.  Bowles loves rostering plenty of CB's, so I see no reason why we can't carry 7.

If we only carry 6, Darryl Morris would be the one to get cut.  Kid was a former UDFA who only signed a 1 year, $675,000 deal.

Thank heavens.  This is the year of the Dexter.  Just our luck cut him and he become a perennial pro bowler for another NFL team.

Not gonna happen.  Darryl Morris would only be $75,000 in dead money if we cut him.  McDougle about $300,000.  Financially it makes little sense to cut McDougle over Morris.
