Am I crazy to think that if they sign Fitzy back, A big IF at this point. They could cut Petty and sign him to the practice squad right? Everyone keeps yammering about which QBs would we keep... Essentially all of them.  If Petty can't make the squad (Beating out Geno) then what team would steal a project QB like Petty.  And I think Mac has been setting this up in the media by saying things like... he will be a good backup, etc. Its because they want to drop him and sign him to P-squad.

Petty could probably be claimed off the PS or possibly not make it through waivers, you just never know and it would be a gamble.  If you need to, you carry 4 QBs for 1 season.  Its not unheard of, a handful of teams did it last year I believe.  Geno is in his 4th year, 2nd year in the Gailey system and in the final year of his rookie deal.  I just don't see the Jets cutting him regardless of Petty hypothetically being equal to him at this point in each of their careers.  Carry Geno for one more year and then let him hit FA where he will definitely be picked up and hope to get some compensatory pick for him.

Its a coin flip.  Another team would want to develop a QB with that type of background, like the Bills, for example.

In reality though... If he gets cut nobody is going to claim him. Too many failed projects... Look at Mettenberger he didn't get claimed. He is a better prospect

Exactly, too big of a gamble.  If Fitz is back we are definitely carrying 4 QBs this season.

Then next season we will be down to 2 (Hack and Petty) and drafting another QB in the late rounds next year.

I couldn't disagree more... there is no way we have 4 QBs going into the season... Mac is giving lip service. Petty goes to P-squad

Cant argue with too much.  Maybe the only ones I'd change are:

Miles and Bailey - seem like locks IMO.  If either are cut, they have zero depth at safety and I think they might find more use out of these guys than say Miliiner, McDougle and Burris.

Deon Simon seems like a lock.  He's the only true NT on the team.

Kenbrell Tompkins seems like a lock.  Smith is completely unknown and wont even be ready by the season (right?) and there is zero depth at WR and they tendered him. Enunwa is definitely a lock.

Qvale seems like a depth lock too.

If the Jets sign another QB, my guess is they'll see if any team is willing to toss them a late-rounder for Geno.  If not, don't be at all surprised if there ends up being some random mysterious "injury" that lands one of the young guys on IR.

That said, it seems increasingly more likely that their QBs won't be changing again this offseason.

We don't know if he is claimed yet, he was just waived today.  I guess we'll know tomorrow.

Yup we will definitely not agree on this! :)  If we aren't carrying 4 QBs this year imo its b/c of 1 of 2 reasons.

1. Fitz doesn't re-sign

2. Another team has a critical injury in camp to one of their QBs and we trade Geno before the regular season after showing considerable improvement in the preseason games and Petty and Hack shows enough improvement to be #2 and #3, however that order shakes out.

What a BAD roster this is shaping up to be. This team will not be able to block for the running game well at all. They don't have any obvious Adrien Clarke's on the team, but an all around old/increasingly underwhelming OL. The running game will NOT benefit this season. I do believe there will be less production from the running game this season than last. On defense, CB and Linebacker are still very much problem areas. I don't have many huge concerns about CB , but linebacker is terrible. The defense will still not be able to defend that wheel route. Lee will get torched trying to cover Gronk. He's too small and a f*cking shrimp for gods sake. ST actually IMPROVED and that is exciting. At least we have something to look forward to this season. But all in all, this is NOT a very talented team - 6 wins at best. Really I think 4 or 5 is more likely given the schedule we face.

Wow... Over-exaggerating the truth... I understand you are frustrated... But come on... LBs have improved... Lee has 20 lbs to gain but can play at this weight, Shrimp?? Come on... he is average size fresh out of college for the hybred LBs that are now in the NFL ... Never been hurt, hard nosed, He will be a fan favorite in 2 years. Jenkins is fast and reliable.. very good tackler... LBs are much improved in speed.

We lost Brick... that hurts, and Clady is a big If... so we did lose value there but its not as though we lost the whole line.

Forte is a great addition... extremely reliable... How many games did Ivory play each season... was he really a loss?? How could anybody ever rely on that guy..

Lee is not gaining 20 pounds, lol.  The dude is currently 237 and Bowles has already said that he didn't want him gaining any more weight.   The guy is 6'1 237 and yet some folks just can't get off this, smh.    Our Linebackers should be MUCH improved.  We have a Mauldin back with a year under his belt.  Erin Henderson was much better than Davis,  Harris now has some speed and some thumpers next to him in Lee and Jenkins, who can set the edge, btw.    We still have several talented and hungry young guys fighting for a postion in Catapuano, Reilly and Barnes not to mention signing veteran Bruce Carter who is a solid all around linebacker in his own right.  I mean how can we be WORSE than last year with Coples, Davis, Slo Mo Pace and Richardson, at times, playing LB??  I mean seriously?

Clady and Carpenter along with Mangold are all solid (especially in the run game) as long as they are healthy.   Shell and Harrison could really push to get playing time from Giacomini and Winters respectively.   I will reserve judgement on this group to see if any of the young guys can take the next step.

The addition of Forte and Robinson will definitely ease the "blow" if you will call it that, of losing Ivory.   We get Amaro and Sudfeld back and between the two of them I expect one of them to make the final roster (Amaro) and be a factor on offense, especially in the red zone.

Our secondary is fine even with father time catching up to Revis.  He is still a very good player and great teacher for the younger players.    X-factor is Milliner; if this guy can actually stay healthy for a change I think he will make a positive impact.  (Not likely though).  It is apparent that Safety is now a strength on the team with the emergence of Pryor, Miles and solid all around play of Gilchrist.

We started last season with Pace, Davis, Coples and Riley on the roster in the Linebacker ranks. Davis is replaced with Lee and Pace is replaced by Jenkins . That leaves 2 spots, and Catapano has 1 of em locked up . I think we keep 2 more guys after Catapano and I like Jones and Bishop for those 2 spots.

Kellen Davis sucks. Give me Sudfield/ Cunningham/Saxon over him, please!

Agreed Kellen Davis is not an NFL football player, I don't get it with this guy. I'm hoping Wes Saxton really comes on this camp & makes this dude expendable.

Bowles needs these safeties to play the tough nickel he likes. I thought Bailey played really well before he got hurt. We had a 4 week span last year where we were losing a safety a week. I think the Jets might have the best safety group outside of maybe Seattle but we definitely have more depth. Adding Lee as a hybrid thumper when you already have Calvin Pryor could make for some exciting hits in 2016. I'm expecting to see some alligator arms when work the short field areas next year.

Kellen  Davis is a far better blocking TE than either of those guys are at receiving . His receiving skills to me are on par with or better than those 2 guys blocking skills .  My hope is that Cunningham is the TE we need .

You may be right but my god he's just looks, runs, and plays like a complete stiff. Use a freaking extra Olineman to block.i don't think we'll see much of him anyway with the return of Amaro, plus I've got this feeling at least one stud is going to emerge from the group of young WRs we accumulated at the draft & through UDFA. We'll have a lot of 4 WR sets.

This confuses me, isn't Steve Mclendon the true NT actually a very good NT for what a NT is supposed to do.  Simon will probably still be backup/depth for Mclendon.

Qvale and Ijalana will probably be locks for depth, Qvale maybe a possibility to usurp Breno and cut Breno to save more money.

I don't think Thompkins is a lock, depends on what some of the younger scrappier players do in TC and preseason.  Thompkins is an easy drop for the org cuz they can save a almost 2million with cutting him.  So unless he is an entire football field ahead of the 6th or 7th best WR it might make an easy cut.

Agreed Enunwa is a lock.

Thompkins is somewhat more likely to make the team than the OP rates him, and I think Qvale is probably a near lock to make the team.  For TE Cunningham probably has to get by Sudfeld who was a good special teams player.

And if Fitzpatrick is signed I expect the Jets to cut Smith.

But that's  short list of disagreement.  Nice work on the OP.

I think the OP is pretty spot on.  Maybe a tweak at safety.  I may be in the minority, but I think Folk is going to have to really show something, due to salary and the kicker from Duke is pretty good.

I also think Thompkins is gone.  Does he play on STs?  With Peake and Anderson having a higher ceiling and will most definitely be playing on STs. Also wouldn't rule out Jalin Marshall making the team.  What does Thompkins bring to the table to warrant his salary and is he that much of an upgrade over these three guys?

Marshall, Decker and Tompkins are the only pro WR's on the team.  I think he makes it based on that alone, honestly.

This is really great. I like you you broke this down. Its a great way of looking at the entire roster and the value of each individual player.

The only thing that I would disagree with here is Nick Folk being in Bolded Green. Folk had a quad injury that ended his season last year, and thats a funny injury to have being a kicker. Also Ross Martin is a quality kicker coming from Duke. Some people have made the argument that he may be better than Aguayo because he has more range to his kicking ability. Folk may not be the lock we'd usually expect.

But again, superb breakdown!
