Good job......I think Wesley Johnson is going to be on the roster over Friend, but Friend seems like a good bet for the practice squad.   I'd be surprised if Giacomini wasn't on the roster.  And I probably would take Trevor Reilly, who is a core special teams player, over Catapano at OLB

This looks pretty accurate to me. I like it. Good job considering how early it is.

Biggest questins will be...

-Will Fitz come back?

-Will D.Smith be placed on IR- opening up a spot for another WR?

-Will Qvale win the job over Giacomini?

-Will Hackett's run and kick style transfer to the NFL? Or, conversely, can he change his style and still be as effective? Otherwise, Edwards will win the job.

Sarge4tide- I think Johnson will get the nod as well, primarily b/c Friend is a good candidate for the practice squad. I'm also secretly pulling for Reilly aver Catapano b/c of his special teams play versatility as a pass rusher and in general his great attitude and work ethic the past couple of years.

This is very insightful.

At QB, unfortunately I agree with the vibe that we may need to keep Geno.  Petty may be lost.  I think he goes on the PS-I don't see another team putting him on their active.

At FB, maybe we don't have a real one and keep an extra TE.

At WR, if Devin Smith is not 110% you IR him and keep another WR.  Next year things will be different,.

At OT, i don't know whether Brandon Shell is better than Breno now.  i agree that Friend goes on PS and likely keep Breno for at least the start of the year.  I am ignoring salary cap issues, but we did not set ourselves via FA or the draft to cut Breno.

At OLB, there is also Deion Barnes.  I think Trevor has seen his day in the Sun.

At ILB, don't know where Taiwan Jones goes.  Maybe the PS.

"   The New York Jets could be faced with a pleasant dilemma when they reduce their current 90-player roster down to the 53-man limit for the 2016 season opener. One of those that could force his way into the locker room is a neophyte Buckeye with limited experience at his collegiate position, but also one with a “bag of tricks” to be able to fill a variety of roles for the squad... The New York Jets open training camp July 27 at the team's facility in Florham Park, New Jersey. Here's our post-minicamp projection for the 53-man roster :

QUARTERBACK (4): Ryan Fitzpatrick, Geno Smith, Bryce Petty, Christian Hackenberg.

Despite a long contract stalemate, Fitzpatrick will re-sign and assume the starting role, prompting the Jets to keep four quarterbacks. It's highly unusual, but Smith, Petty and Hackenberg have value for different reasons. Yes, teams without a franchise quarterback have to do strange things sometimes.

RUNNING BACK (3): Matt Forte, Bilal Powell, Khiry Robinson.

Robinson and Zac Stacy are recovering from broken legs, so that could factor into the equation. Ideally, they'd like to keep four, but it's hard under the current roster limitations. (See: Four quarterbacks.)

FULLBACK (1): Tommy Bohanon.

Bohanon just keeps plugging along.

WIDE RECEIVER (5): Eric Decker, Brandon Marshall, Quincy Enunwa,Kenbrell Thompkins, Jeremy Ross.

Devin Smith tore an ACL last December, so he's way behind and could begin the season on the physically-unable-to-perform list. Ross gets the nod because he's an experienced returner, but he'll be challenged by rookies Charone Peake, Robby Anderson and Jalin Marshall.

TIGHT END (3): Kellen Davis, Jace Amaro, Zach Sudfeld.

This might be the most nondescript group of tight ends in the league. Amaro and Sudfeld are returning from major injuries, so maybe the tight ends will catch more than eight balls this season.

OFFENSIVE LINE (10): Ryan Clady, James Carpenter, Nick Mangold, Brian Winters, Breno Giacomini, Brandon Shell, Brent Qvale, Ben Ijalana, Dakota Dozier, Wesley Johnson.

It's a grizzled starting five, followed by a whole bunch of inexperienced backups. The team is very high on Shell, a fifth-round pick. Jarvis Harrison, a fifth-round pick in '15, is the most notable cut.

DEFENSIVE LINE (5): Muhammad Wilkerson, Sheldon Richardson,Leonard Williams, Steve McLendon, Jarvis Jenkins.

You'll be hard pressed to find a better top three in the league. The big question is whether McLendon, late of the Pittsburgh Steelers, can replace Damon Harrison on the nose. Deon Simon, a seventh-round choice in '15, is on the bubble.

LINEBACKER (9): David Harris, Erin Henderson, Lorenzo Mauldin, Darron Lee, Jordan Jenkins, Trevor Reilly, Bruce Carter, Deion Barnes, Freddie Bishop.

You may not recognize this group. Harris will be joined by three new starters -- Henderson, Mauldin and perhaps Jenkins, a third-round pick. The speed of the linebacking corps will be better than last season, but there will be growing pains. Mike Catapano, coming off foot injury, will be in the thick of the competition.

SECONDARY (10): Darrelle Revis, Buster Skrine, Calvin Pryor, Marcus Gilchrist, Marcus Williams, Dee Milliner, Juston Burris, Darryl Morris, Rontez Miles, Dion Bailey.

With Antonio Cromartie gone, Skrine moves into a full-time role -- cornerback in the base defense, slot in the nickel. If Milliner can stay healthy, he will push for playing time. Dexter McDougle, a third-round pick in '14, is the most notable cut.

SPECIALIST (3): K Nick Folk, P Lachlan Edwards, LS Tanner Purdum.

Edwards will compete with rookie Tom Hackett, a fellow Aussie, in the Battle from Down Under.
