Fanbase's reaction to a rebuild

This is why the Jets are where they are.

Pure and simple. You cant have a proper rebuild in NY. Idzik tried that and the fans wanted him out of there.

So Macc is trying (and doing a pretty good job) of trying to do both.

Stay in somewhat contention while getting this roster full of young talent. It is already working.

This is why Ryan Fitzpatrick was resigned, he had the best year in Jets QB and the fans would boo Geno Smith the moment he stepped on the field (in fact they did in preseason)

Luckily, Macc signed him to a contract that wouldnt impeded progress.

The Jets will end up with 6 or 7 wins this year, and probably be the better for it.

Progress is not signing a 34 year old journeyman bum QB progress is a rookie making mistakes and learning from them for the future.

Who gives a **** about fans?  Jesus man, you actually think they sit around asking each other how to handle the team based on the fan reaction.

Idzik lost his job because he was a ******* disaster. Not because some idiot flew a banner over a practice.

Macc is next signing Fitz was a big mistake you know it I know it

Yes, well beyond when it was still appropriate.

What Idzik was doing was a proper rebuild. He was fired because he sounded like a schmuck at a press conference. That was the disaster.

Having Marshall, Decker and Forte as your 3 primary offensive weapons is not a rebuild team. Oh yea and that 34 year old QB they have. Revis on D, Harris at LB? Rebuild? Are we watching the same team??

All short term contracts that by the time they are done, new talent will be put in place. Competing and rebuilding

You're the most delusional sports fan I've ever witnessed.  It's fascinating.  I want to stop responding you but I cant.

So tired of the 'NY fans can't/won't/don't know how to accept a rebuild' tired false narrative.

I know, what are they going to do?  Did they leave the Mets forever?  Knicks?  Rangers?   Bet most Yankee fans like the youth movement over the sign every name routine

Delusional? In what way? I can see the thinking of the GM and most fans and media cant see the forest for the trees.

In every single way possible.

This particular scenario - you think Idzik was fired because of a press conference and not because he went basically 1 for 14 in the draft while trying to rebuild and basically ignoring this other super groovy avenue of getting players called Free Agency and trotting out the worst roster in the NFL 2 straight seasons.

Oh goody goody gumdrops they're going to sacrifice another year to the premise of "rebuilding" so they'll be better next year. Who CARES about next year. For all we know the team might end up with oh say, improbable number like 12 say draft picks and those sure things will help this franchise for the next 5 years...oh wait...nevermind.

Idzik would have had to spend the money next year anyway. When you rebuild properly, you are going to struggle initially. Houston Astros are the prime example

And your evidence of that is...?

We tried to do exactly what you're talking about in 2013 and 2014 and people bought a ******* billboard to run the GM out of town. The idea that this fanbase will tolerate even a minor step back with an eye toward future contention is a total fiction.

forget the fans. you want to build a team that is always competing. you want to build a culture of winning. and, even if you are okay with 4-12 for a few years, how would it stifle Petty's progress to get thrown in when he wasn't ready.

Also, the GM won't be able to build a quality team as they would be fired after the 2nd year. You would never have a winner. Look at Ten. The have 'rebuilt' with an all in approach to the QB position 3 times in the last 12 years. How has that turned out for them? How would you like to be a Browns fan?

what happens if the Jets go on a roll along with Fitz like they did the end of last year ?

Fitz had a horrible game worst I've ever seen him play but he is not the underlying problem here. This game was a freak show and was certainly not the norm.

The plays being called yesterday were dumb and played right into the Chiefs hands and no adjustment was made. Fitz was stupid for continuing to throw to double and triple covered receivers so obviously that's on him but what was done to adjust ? ^You can only audible out of stupidity so many times.

Bottom line is I don't expect this to happen again and I have seen plenty of very good football teams rebound from something like this and look like totally different teams. Last year we watched Seattle play terrible for their first 4 games then turn it on and beat the crap out of teams. We've seen NE do it how many times did we read TOm Bradys finished after a bad start to the season ? We've seen the Steelers do it as well. We've seen the Ravens do it . Big difference is those teams have a serious coaching edge on us and long tenurerd coaches who game plan well and adjust. Lets see how this coaching staff adjusts to the mess we saw yesterday no matter what that calls for them to do including replacing the QB if they deem necessary

Idzik wasn't fired for trying a rebuild.

Idzik was fired for being awful at his primary job - finding talent.  When you have 12 picks in one of the deepest drafts in modern history and come out with Calvin Pryor, Quincy Enunwa, and not much else, you deserve to be fired.

Not much time to find out about his picks.
