Um, Lorenzo Mauldin Anyone??

Where has our most exciting rookie defensive player (L. Williams aside) been? This crap of Sheldon playing ahead of him at OLB is ludacris. Mauldin was a big bright spot for our pass rush last season not only because of his speed and ability but even more so for his fire and attitude, something we could really use at this time (cough) someone with a little fire and intensity...Everyone was saying he had locked up the OLB spot in the offseason and now he hasn't started one single game this year. WTF?? Bowles needs to try and remember what worked last year on defense and go back to it.

He's a one-dimensional player who is best served as a pass rusher on 3rd downs.

You state "Bowles needs to try and remember what worked last year on defense and go back to it."

What is lacking is a Pounding Run Game that kept defenses honest & tired while it opened up the passing game for a mediocre Fitz so the offense could flow and score MORE TDs than our defense gave up to the opposition. Now that we lost that facet of our offense, we are a one dimensional pass team with a JAG at QB that is pressing to COME BACK from deficits that our exhausted defense yielded due to the Jets' offense multitude of 3 and outs.

This team is such a mess from top to bottom.  Hard to tell what, if any, talent they have on the roster.  The only thing that matters is whether or not Petty can play.

Well if someone can throw 9 picks in two games and still be allowed to start, however good any backup is, will be pretty irrelevant at this time. Bonehead decision of the year award goes to CTB.

Mauldin was a quick outside rusher who looked good in spurts on obvious passing downs and made an impact.

So, of course, the Jets staff asked him to get bigger and add weight so he could be a player on all three downs. Well, wouldn't you know that now that he's added the weight, he's not as speedy and he hasn't panned out playing on earlier downs against the run either. They took away the one thing that made him good and now he cannot seem to get on the field. It seems like just another mind boggling decision by the staff and front office.

Agree Carl good post we as fans see it yet the coaches Woody is paying fail to see anything that is wrong with this team.

He had 4 sacks as a rookie, 15 games.  Has 1.5 today.  Works out to 4.5 for 15 games.  He is what he is

Mauldin was never fast, dont know where fans got that from

Hes on a pace to do what he did last season, the staff did nothing to ruin him.  If anything doesnt seem that he has the motor and aggressiveness we saw a year ago

OK, he never relied on speed

He relied on effort, motor.  And it seems missing this year.  On him, not the staff for trying to make him a complete player

Better?

Not really. He added the weight and now he's slower. He relied on quickness and explosiveness to get to the QB. Doesn't have either anymore because of the weight. I don't think it's an effort or motor thing.

doesn't help that idiot Bowles putting him in position to fail. Bowles doesn't seem to have any idea what he is doing with personnel on game day.

No, Mauldin was completely over rated by fans, including me.  He really brings little to the game.

I think he looks like a completely different player, I would bet there almost no difference in speed or quickness due to his weight.  He's not playing right now, he's overthinking and struggling,  Hate when its blamed on the CS, its on Mauldin

disagree.  But we'll never know, will we? because Bowles and stubborn staff won't even try to develop young players it seems.  Hey... but they keep imitating Rex by playing Sheldon out of position...

Mauldin was never quick or fast.  He was always heavy footed.  But after that weight gain, the dude is slower than half the defensive line.

Lol! And you know this how? Dude was a complete bright spot last year, played his best ball in the biggest games where he wreaked havoc on Brady and Tannehill in the afc east.

Maybe it just shows how slow the rest of the defense is when Mauldin looked so quick last season. He looked like he was on a completely different gear than the rest of them.

Asking him to put on ten pounds was probably a bad idea, but he's a poor athlete and guys like that always struggle sooner or later.

Correction: When your QB stinks, you can crowd the box and make the RB look garbage as well. But when your RB isn't doing crap, you can still pass. That doesn't mean you start passing to the defenders. Stop diverting blame.

Mauldin is a 3/4 OLB. The 2016 NY Jets are a 4/3 team. Mauldin is out of position because the FO let go of Snacks. Maybe they had no chance to sign him either. Without a NT the Jets signed more DT's without addressing a speedy DE. Any coach would have a problem with this configuration of players.

Next time Macc goes after the BPA he should ensure that they fit the team scheme first.
